Welcome Marlaina,

I live in the Myrtle Beach area and work in Conway and you are always welcome to ride with me and my friends. Not many other Buellers up here as it seems that most are in Charleston or Greenville areas.

Welcome Marlaina!

So,... who's riding tomorrow?

I'm afraid it will be too cold to even sit on the Buell. Might get stuck.

What day is everyone planning to hit the bike show in Greenville? Saturday I presume?

Thanks for the welcomes everyone! I am hoping to go to the IMS on Saturday the 21st.

And I am always up for riding in the MB/Conway/Georgetown area. Like I said, I live in Conway but I work in Murrells Inlet. So I am flexible. Of course, right now it's WAY too cold for me to even want to ride long distances. That doesn't mean that we couldn't all meet up for a get together of sorts somewhere.... Even if no one rides it would be nice to meet before some of the events. That's how desperate I am for local Buell friends! LOL!

Marlaina- welcome to Badweb.

Tree! Good to hear from you. We enjoyed meeting you and your wife at Buelltoberest.

I'm signed up to take the new Military Sport Bike Riders MSF course on Tuesday. The military (or at least the Navy) is upping their requirements for riding on base beginning February 1st. Up to now you just had to complete the BRC and have a motorcycle endorsement on your license. Evidently a lot of sailors keep buying sport bikes and killing themselves shortly afterwards so this new requirement is the Navy's effort to reverse the trend.

Cool for me because it's a free ~$150 class. Hopefully I'll pick up some useful skills and information.

Hugh - how will the gate guards know you've completed the course? Do you have to display a decal or something on your Uly? Also, what about people riding bikes who are just visiting and haven't taken the course? Will they be prohibited from riding on the base?

You have to do a twenty foot stoppie, while saluting the guard, to get a wave thru.

My understanding is they are going to issue new badges specifically for authorized motorcycle riders.

I'm on the Navy Base a lot down at the State Dept. complex, but never on the bike.
Just wondering if they'd let me on if I rode it one day.
I haven't taken any base-sponsored courses. (But I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express, one night)

Jim- I'm not sure what the rules are down there since that really isn't DoD property any longer.

Well, the weather report for tomorrow calls for a low of 22 deg. F, a high of 40 deg. F, and a fifty percent chance of SNOW! That figures, when I took the BRC ~7 years ago, it was in the middle of August, the temps were over 100 deg. F and the humidity was over 90%.

Hugh- You're right, my vehicle placard is from Homeland Security. As for the weather, at least the fan won't be on as much.

Well, i need to figure out how to reattatch the rear taillight to the skinny tail since it is different than the fat m2 tail. I butchered part of the skinny tail to run it on the fat one, my mistake.

Any thoughts? Charlie? Its just a hole where the small trunk would be. Im thinking i might be able to epoxy what i butchered back in place or maybe make something out of aluminum.

Hopefully ill have this done somewhat soon. Im going for a s1-ish look with the skinny tail, manta tank, and a x1 front end. It will have major identity issues lol.

Matt,
Not sure what you need, I have the stock bracket for the tail on the 2K that I trimmed a little. Not sure what the difference is.

Well on the old tail, that whole bracket was epoxied up or glued up. It was part of the tail, there was on bolting it on. Im going to dig arround and see if i can make something that will work in its place.

Well, MSRC was canceled yesterday due to the weather. Unfortunately, I didn't find this out until I'd ridden ~15 miles in near-freezing rain to the airport.

Of course, I was WAY better off in my Aerostich than the two dudes riding sportbikes (one Ducati Monster and one Honda RR600). Both had on textile jackets, uninsulated gloves and jeans. They were HUGGING their exhaust pipes when I pulled up.

Hugh:

The nice thing about the Aerostich it is good for serious hot weather riding(touring) too ... A small bag of ice in the jacket does wonders for COOL ...

Never disassembled them.

HUGE new problem. I was putting on the last coat of paint on the bike so I could put it all back together the next day and the last coat decides it wants to crinkle. I was about to pull all my hair out. I had spent the 6.5 hrs the night before wet sanding the entire bike as per the instructions but I reckon it did not help. I had 3 goods coats but I let it dry a couple of weeks before I wet sanded it to get the minor imperfections out... now I have some MAJOR imperfections. I am not sure what I am going to do next. I guess I am going to sand it all back out and start from scratch. Next time, I will be a little more hairless...
