Mike,

One of the only stipulations for joining a BRAG chapter is that the members be members of National (HOG or BRAG). Every year we have to sign everybody up and you need your national BRAG number for that. Everybody's renewal date is different, so that's not a problem. My renewal date is in May.

Yes there is a "Group riding video". We watched it a few years ago with Rick. We are planning on showing the group the video, assuming it can be rustled up. If not we'll watch the video at a later date, but we will be discussing safety topics related to group riding.

My brain breaks almost everyday onthe way to work, so I can feel your pain.:) Hope to see you tomorrow night.

Jerry

P.S. The secret is out about the object in my garage. CJ knows it all.

P.S.S. The TOP SECRET project is still classified.

Bill, no idea what the hell a National Roundup is. But they also dont have any dates announced for their open yearly open houses so I would assume those will end up being included during the same deal.

You will be amazed and mystified at it's unveiling, or not, might be just simply amused or annoyed, but still all in fun. Still have to find a piston set and some other associated items. :)

Thanks for the heads up Nev, I will be fix that tomorrow because I am feeling lazy right now but everyone should look for some changes to the overall site in the next week.

A quick overview of tonights meeting, we talked about everything that Blastin said earlier and also I brought up $$$ rewards for road captains(those few brave souls willing to lead a ride) and Kirk said to give him a list of our current members so he knows who to give the same deal he gives to the HOG members. More later. Possibly on the new and improved brewcitybuell.com

Maybe he never knew you guys wanted the same deal, did you ever talk to him ?? Just asking honestly, sometimes we think someone should know something and it just doesn't occur to them.

CJ...Rick did repeatedly as did Dennis. I even asked every time I bought something and Kirk was within earshot.

Still not enough of an incentive to join, but would have been an equal opportunity gesture for retention purposes.

Lay you Odds I spent more than any of you (and a lot of you combined) at Hal's for parts and accessories last year and I still spread my money around to the other dealers for the discounts I got with my National BRAG card. Will be even easier with my National HOG card and membership in a few choice chapters.

Still get my service and mechanical parts at Hal's because they are the best and treat me well, but that is about it.

Hope you all get nice'n'fat consuming the soda and snacks 10% of my 2003 purchases represent.
Will be interesting to see how many active members Brew City has.

Did they ever replace Rick or are you all still bastard step-children? If you find an interesting potential Bueller to bring into the fold, let me know. Have a Primo X1 for sale. Details in my profile.

No insult intended to anyone affiliated with Brew City BRAG or Hal's. I simply am an independent free spirit and know when a situation is good for me or not. If not, I go find something new. No big deal.

Bill,
If you don't mind my asking, what was the total bill or cash value of the oil pump drive gear changeout on your X1, parts and labor?
Thanks. Don't think I "need" it done but am looking at issues and value for lost dollars spent and so on and so forth.

Hal's used to have a speed shop discount card that was good for any performance or Buell parts in both the main store and in the speed shop at I think 15% off for a nominal charge of around $15 or so annually. But that program disappeared during their transition to the new location and new building. Just a little more fodder to chew on.

Didn't make the meeting last night, had other things to take care of and started running too late to get there before the doors got locked.

How many people showed up at the meeting?

Well we're of to a good start this year. The focus for this year will be to build our membership, rides to see new people and places, and most importantly just have a good time.

Last nights meeting was informative for everyone, including myself.

Hal's has stepped up to the plate and is behind it's club and wants to help in any way that it can. Hal's has developed an information packet about Brew City that will be available at the reception desk, sales people, and included with bike purchases.
They have also made some changes in what membership will bring to its members. Hal's has put us on par with the KMC and will extend it's 10% discount to CURRENT Brew City members.

I want to make a note here that this will probably change in the future, but it will change along with the KMC. So don't feel that we are being slighted.

Membership dues will be $15 dollars and need to be paid up by the March meeting. If you aren't able to make a meeting by then, let us know and we can get you set up. Hal's will be taking the current membership list and sending out letters.

What kind of guest speakers or workshops would the membership like to see on meeting nights? Hal's has stated that they can set up these things for us on a quarterly basis if we wish. I personally would like to see some performance products installed, like cams, etc.

Phil Sberna filled us in on some racing schedules and a ton of track days that are available. If anyone is interested in attending any racing event, contact Phil. He may be able to help you out with a few things.

We were planning on watching the group riding safety video, but we decided to hold that until next month.

How would you like a sister club in Japan? Tom, our witty treasurer, suggested it, and I will be contacting Peggy to see if we can make it happen.

I'm tired of typing for now.

Jerry

The reason for the change of heart was that the discount policy is changing. When we first talked to Kirk he said he wanted to treat us the same but he didn't want to give a 10% discount and then quickly change the policy. People love to bitch when the rules suddenly get changed.

And for the record Hal's isn't the only dealer who was dissatisfied with a policy that encouraged people to spend $15 on a memebership that could net you a 10% discount on a $200 part.

Kirk said that the change in policy is going to be slowly transitioned in so instead of making us wait he is letting us in now. Also he mentioned recently read an article about BRAG/HOG HOG/BRAG interchangability and this also seems to be a factor.

At the meeting we had about 8 people which is about average for us. I think the most we ever had at a meeting I made it to was about 12. We also got a new membership last night.

Also we are going to change our membership policy so that everyone renews at the same time. Our dues work out to $1.25 a month so we are just going to adjust renewal fees accordingly and pro-rate new memberships but this isn't voted on yet.

Blastin you got mail.

For $$$ spent at Hals, yes. But overall I spent more than $4k on my bike last year. Hals wouldnt play ball on giving me the discount so I took my $$$ elsewhere. If they had given me the discount a good chunk of that $$ could have been theirs.

CJ...My hat is off to you. Anyone that gets involved in tax prep deserves at least a two week vacation commencing April 16th!!!

Mike...did not do the drive gear or pump. Hal's guy that used to work for Buell inspected it and said it was ok. Believe the R&R was around $800.

Jerry...nice report!

Tom...10% is a discount for loyalty and to build relationships. If you believe that 10% of all of Brew Cities purchases mean that much to Hal's, I feel sorry for you. You may consider the dynamics of high turns at a fair margin vs low turns at a high margin. Trust me it does equal a much bigger boat and an even better relationship with the mothership.

Think of how much more business they would have had (at least from me) if they would have offered it. Best believe that if there were the potential parts and accessory sales to Buell owners that there is for HD owners, Hal's would have happily offered the discount from the first day they sold a Buell. Parts is parts and money talks but BS walks.

My Buell saddle alone was over $200 and I spent a lot more on the X1 and my girl friend at Hal's. Additionally, I bought parts for the Buell, clothing for two and almost $2,000 in Bling Bling for my new Wide Glide at MKE HD because they did give me a discount. Figured better cash in my pocket than Donuts in your stomach as this was after your post concerning snacks and soda being the BCB Benefit Package.

Still, Hal's gets all my service work because they are the BEST and most convenient. I don't skimp on service and I believe there is no discount on it anyway. If I wanted to save on service, I would be back at All Pro Motorsports in Waukesha where the KMC HOG folks told me to go. Excellent work, lower prices, same parts (most in stock), etc. Incidentally, All Pro does my performance work. Just a tad too far away to walk home.

Tom...Nothing personal. Please don't think of it that way. Just a matter of economics and fair competition.

Mike...The $800 number was for a just that work to be done at DWD using a Zipper's Pump and an S&S gear. Included all fluids and adjustments.

Have not priced it yet at All Pro. No need to according to Hal's lead man for quite some time.

Believe Hal's price was around $600 as a part of the 10.0K mile service. They were ready to do it but didn't need to. I appreciate their honesty!

Exactly, look how many times a year the dealerships have "sales" where everthing in the store except bikes is 20% off.

I have seen a couple of dealer costs on parts & it would make you sick to think of the markup. At times its 100% or more. A part that retails to the consumer for $105 had a dealer cost of $45. Giving us 10-15% off of retail isnt going to hurt them in any way shape or form.
