me and the bike are going to be fine. Ray Price had everything I needed in stock. $150 later the bike will be good as new. I'm just upset about the helmet.

Seeinstars, I always rough up new tires with coarse sandpaper. It works for me.

U4- Thanks for the offer, but I finally have the Chevy running top notch again. Had to spend several hundred dollars to get it ready, but it passed inspection today. Now, I need a rear tire for the bike.

Anybody out there taken the MSF beginners course lately? My 16 almost 17 year old wants to learn to ride.
This pretty much sums up my emotions on the subject.

My formal training from previous owner was: 1 down, 4 up, neutral between 1st and 2nd. Don't hit anything cause it's gonna hurt. Survived the first four years then the AF said if you want to continue to ride on base you must pass the MSF experienced riders course. DAMN I was lucky.

Question is: anything I can do to help prepare her for the course so she will feel more comfortable without teaching her my bad habits and she fails? or would it be best to let her go in and work her way through it?

We went a got her new Hayabusa yesterday, some flip flops and a new swim suit so she should be all set for bike week........just kidding.

Seeinstars--this is the stuff that is making my hair grey...good news is money and time will make it all better. New helmet is cheaper than a skin graft.

U4, I've just been steadily moving in between working and since the new pad is only five miles away, it's been pretty easy. I'm not moving the big furniture. The big arms come 2-13 for that detail.

Flynuly My daughter took the riders edge class at Tilleys in July. All I did before was let ride my gs500 in the yard to get her used to the clutch. See did great and she rides the buell some. Like you I didnt want her to pick up my bad habits. She really liked the class very well worth the $$.The first few times we rode together. About 50 miles the first day and over 100 the next.First time we rode we did about a 5 mile loop then went home and talked about it .Then took off and rode some more

XB9- Thanks!
I was kind of leaning that way myself. I tried to teach the wife in a parking lot many many years ago prior to her MSF course but not sure if I helped or hurt.
Chris passed the course but never got comfortable on the Sportster, picked the wrong 1st bike. She and the daughter are looking at a Kawasaki 250R for them to share as she is talking about riding again also.
I'm not even home so my input/influence has been minimal and that is great IMO.

Flyn - When I took the class, the hardest thing for me, and a lot of the other people in there, was getting used to the clutch. If you want to teach her something, I'd teach her how to use the clutch. I'm sure you can replace it after you're done. : )

That being said, I walked into the Riders Edge class at Ray Price with zero motorcycle experience and made it through. I did destroy a Blast in the process : ) They gave me the pieces I broke off, which still hang in my garage.

Jim- cool that they where so forgiving. I would like them to go to Ray Price as well. Wife for a refresher and daughter to learn. $$ is cheap in comparison to the alternative way of learning to ride.

Thanks for the input. Might see if a friend will let me borrow his Honda 80(?) to teach them the clutch work. Uly is a bit tall and the FLH a bit heavy....unless I put the sidecar back on, but that would be cheating. 1st stop in class forget to put your feet down..

Flyn, our class is designed for people with no experience. I sometimes encourage people to drop by and get the handbook to review before the course, but not much else. The MSF has really honed the course based off of the variety of learning styles and motor principles, that the course almost teaches itself. We are currently running a special for all of February and March of $270 instead of the normal $295.

Jim, thanks for the kudos.

Mike R. new tires are slick, LOL. Glad we were able to get you back on the road.

MikeTB- I sent the wife a link to the Ray Price class schedule and gave her your name. Sounded like she was going to give you a call after she talks to Ellie. She isn't sure if Ellie will want to take the class with her or by herself but either way they will both take it. Special price sounds great too. Any family specials?
Thanks
Tim

Tim, I am sure we could work something out for the family, but will warn you, the more family around, the more stressful it can be to a student that might be having a hard time. We do offer ladies only classes that we restrict to 9 students instead of the normal 12. Those classes can be challenging, but it is rewarding to see the class come closer and support each other through the troubles they may have. I have a ladies only class scheduled for the first of May that will have lady instructors and will be part of a nationwide record attempt for ladies taking the MSF course in a weekend.

Mike- sorry I was only being a smarta$$ about the family thing. Wife is going to talk to the daughter this afternoon and see if they are going to take the class together or separately. I understand about the stress, and family peer pressure when trying to learn a new skill. Sometimes it's better to be with strangers.
They will call you directly if that is ok? looking at end of Feb or early March dates.

Flynuly, I took the MSF course last summer after not having ridden in a long time. I took it at Johnston Community Co. and it was well worth the time and money. The best thing is once you pass the course you don't have to take the State road test.

Rubberdown- you coming down to watch the Sandblast Rally Saturday? (assuming you haven't quite healed up enough to run it this year!). Looks like the weather will be decent (high in the 60's).

Any other C3'ers interested? Near Cheraw, SC this Saturday. More info here:

I'm crewing for Bill Conger and helping out some others. I can't race the big bike as the shoulder separation is still giving me fits. I'll be down this evening. I'll be zooming around on the TW200 (probably with Rachel on the back). Looks like a great day to race. See you there?
