Random note-

I helped a buddy do tires/chain/sprockets on his Vulcan 800 today . . .

I. loathe. chains.

It's the messiest thing I've done in a long time. Ranks up there with repacking the silencer on a poorly-running 2-stroke. Even without the mess the whole process of cutting off the old chain, counting links, dealing with master/quick-links, adjusting chain tension, and checking wheel alignment just has tedious written all over it. I know some guys don't mind it because they're used to dealing with chains, but now that I've spent a few years without having to maintain a chain I'm reminded of how much a hate them every time I have to touch one. This is one area where Buell clearly has it right with the zero-adjustment belt drive.

Aside from that, I've really got an itch for an 1125R. A white/blue one . . . with a spare set of red bodywork. : )

It was Amanda's birthday on Sat, and I asked her what she wanted to do.

Photograph old tombstones was her answer.

I told her I needed to introduce her to Brankin.

We spent this weekend in Southport and Wilmington, at the cemeteries.

I've invited him for Saturday night and suggested that you guys meet up in New Bern earlier in the day and then ride into Grifton.

Maybe easier if the chain is the correct length right out of the box and you don't need to touch the sprockets. Belt changes on an XB are cake, way faster than changing sprockets and cutting links.

good point spike about cutting links. But I was saying a chain can be found in almost any town. How many dealers stock all sizes belts we need. At least 3 diffrent ones for just xbs.Even if sprockets are wore you can throw on a cheap chain to get home.

Photograph old tombstones was her answer.

Amazingly I don't have any digital ones. (Somewhere) I got a lot of cool print film ones from the Netherlands, Germany, Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin and wherever else I've traveled to in the past. I've been meaning to stop at some of the roadside cemeteries that seem to be so prevalent in Eastern NC and take some pics.

I guess I should've let you all know beforehand about the charity ride I went on today. Since it's in the past I will just focus on the cool stuff I encountered on the ride. The first stop after meeting at New Bern Harley (BARF - although they do have the V-Rod Muscle posters there, which reminds me I'll have to go back for one) was at MFI in Havelock. I'd never heard of them before, but it stands for Motorcycle Fabricators Inc. Across the street was the 'haunted house' Nightmare Factory. And they had their rolling billboard still outside - it's a year or two newer than mine:

Nightmare Factory

But what really got me was at MFI:

S1W twin tail

S1W twin tail mileage

Don't believe that the 2.6 miles on the odometer is actual mileage? Check this stuff out:

S1W twin tail front rotor

The front rotor appears only to have the wear that would come from rolls test.

S1W twin tail rear sprocket

The rear sprocket bolts still have the paint marks on them. These usually wear off/wash off in no time.

S1W twin tail rear fender

The rear inner fender hasn't even been drilled for a license plate.

S1W twin tail battery box

The battery pad, strap and areas where the battery mount to have absolutely no wear. Obviously the bike would have to have the updated S1 battery kit. Also, check out how un-discolored the rear header pipe is.

S1W twin tail VIN

Looking at the VIN the YS indicates a true White Lightning and the 11 after it indicates a 49 state bike. And the last four of the serial number - 6913 - indicates pure lust!
I've got the number to call, but the people who were there that knew a little bit about the bike were throwing around collector prices. It's obvious that this bike is best kept for a collector in any event. Where else will you find a 1998 S1W twin tail in Molten Orange with the Nuclear Blue frame with NO miles?
I finally figured out what chrome is good for today:

reflection

A little closer:

reflection closer

I wasn't the only Buell there, and unfortunately I didn't have a chance to talk to the owner. Maybe this is owned by one of the newer people to find C3?

Red XB9R

Looks like next weekend is shaping up to be even more eventful...

I just got a call from U4euh. Mike is still in ICU. They are in a holding pattern, waiting to move him to a regular room.

Trish is with Mike and will be returning home tomorrow to take care of some family business. If all goes as planned, Jim will ride back to SC with Trish to pick up Mike's car and bike and drive it back home to NC.

Their friend Rachel is home with the Warren kids, so all is taken care of there.

Please continue to keep the Warren family in your thoughts and prayers.

If Jim calls with another update, I'll be sure to post it.

You're welcome Reep. Here's another update!

I talked to U4euh about 30 minutes ago. He was leaving the hospital after visiting with his "brother" Mike! He said that Mike is pretty banged up and sore, but has the right mind set. He's on a morphine drip for pain right now.

Mike only remembers being in the sand before the impact and doesn't remember anything else until EMT was waking him. Being the motorcycle enthusiast that Mike is, his first question was about his bike and it's condition. Jim assured him that the bike was in a safe place and would be dealt with later.

Mike will probably be in ICU for at least another day or so. Once he's moved a regular floor, they will discuss visitors and the possibility of having him moved to a local hospital.

Trish is hanging in there and Rachel plans to stay with the family taking care of cooking and the children for the time being.

Jim printed down this thread and read it all to Mike. Mike sends his thanks and says that the prayers and well wishes did make him feel better.

Keep praying for Rubberdown, Ferris and Ratbuell during their recovery time.

Glenn,

You still aiming for the IMS show in Greenville, SC?

As fun as the DC excursion is, I have a bad feeling that I will have to work the Saturday of the DC IMS show, so I'm considering the Greenville, SC one this year. I HATE WORKING SATURDAYS! On the positive side, whatever mid-year releases that H-D and Buell grace us with this year should be at the show, while the DC show is always before the H-D Winter Dealer Meeting. On the negative side, the cool shirt that Buell is giving away at the IMS shows will probably be all gone by the time of the Greenville, SC IMS show.

I do like the idea of demo rides at the IMS show as well,
1313

P.S. The Wheels Through Time visit is really looking like it will have to be over Thanksgiving weekend. Next Sunday I will be flying to Columbus, OH for a couple of days for work. I will *hopefully* get the chance to check out The AMA's Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum while I am there. So it is looking to be the week of Moto-Museums, which is not too terribly bad of a thing. We'll have to firm things up for turkey day weekend next week.

Is anybody else interested in a Wheels Through Time visit of Thanksgiving weekend? It will be your last chance, unless you travel to Arizona to see it after they move...

I took a nap after getting home from visiting Mike. Amanda came over after work and we were getting ready to go to dinner and I couldn't find my wallet. We gave up and went out anyway (I'm a kept man today.) Came back and looked everywhere, and I still couldn't find it.

I eventually gave up and went online to see how to get a new drivers license. You can actually do it online. They had to email me a PIN number, and when I went to check for the mail, there was a note from the Bank Of America fraud dept. Someone had tried to use my debit card. I called all my credit card companies and canceled the cards. There was attempted fraudulent activity on my American Express card too.

Someone walked in my house, while I was taking a nap, and took my wallet off the kitchen counter. At least I hope that's what happened. The other place I usually put it is on the nightstand beside the bed. I don't want to think someone came up the stairs and took it while I slept.
