I think I need a vacation.
Maybe I'll build a canoe this winter.
Today sure feels like a Monday.
And tonight I get to sit in class and try to decipher the instructor's blended language.
yahoo!...

In 1999 and 2000 Harley-Davidson/Buell came up with a warranty plan that included a money back guarantee whereby if you did not use the warranty at all during the subscribed warranty period then your purchase price of the warranty would be refunded in full. Additionally, if any warranty claims were made against the warranty then that amount would be deducted from the balance owed back to the purchaser at the end of the warranty period. Additionally, if warranty costs exceeded the purchase price of the warranty during the warranty period then those additional costs would still be covered but the customer would simply not get any money back.

But, if the dealership turned in the money back guarantee coupon, or if the customer did not personally send in the money back guarantee coupon with the original warranty paperwork, or if the coupon and original warranty paperwork were sent in but were not received by the money back guarantee agency either from getting lost in the U.S. Mail or in their internal handling of the mail, then the money back guarantee is defunct. 8 out of 10 customers who purchased a warranty under the money back guarantee program do not now have a valid money back guarantee, an 80% failure rate. This is my understanding of the issue as forcefully explained to me by the warranty representative upstairs currently at Hal's.

The warranties are now starting to come due, and people are starting to find out that their guarantee is null and void, and the person who originally handled the warranty paperwork downstairs is no longer with the company. I'd wager that over the next three years as more come due and payable there will be a continued presence of disgruntled customers coming through the doors.

Hmmm, I think I restrained myself rather well with that post.

I think you did well mikej !! That does suck !! I never buy extended warranties !!

Forcefully explained ??? You would think after they know they've pretty much screwed you over, they would at least be polite about it and try and make you like it !??

Yes, forcefully. Sounded like she's already getting the response from raped customers and is covering her ass from finger pointing, her comments were too rehearsed and too adamant in redirecting blame away from the dealership staff and onto the incompetent customer.

Trust me, if someone handed me a coupon that was required to be sent in to validate a money back guarantee worth over $1000 then I damn sure would have sent the damn thing in. 80% and my recollection of Beth saying she'd handle the warranty paperwork tells me the problem is on Hal's end of the rape. But having attempted to deal with the blanker upstairs with a couple of telephone calls it is a lost cause unless Kirk pays up out of his own pocket. He's a nice guy, but probably not that nice. A shame really, but I don't feel like ever setting foot in there again.

In fact, I think I'll just take a break from the whole crapola for a few weeks.

Later,
Bye.

I'll probably miss the party this weekend.
Party hardy folks, just don't ask the chef for a money back guarantee.

Sorry mikej, didn't mean to get you stirred up, but concur with you !! Seems like it should have been an important thing to do send it in, any responsible business would.

Then when it gets screwed up to point the finger at the customer in a rude manner, doesn't sound like good business to me !! I'd not set foot in there either if an employee was rude to me after a screw up that was 80% their fault !!

Too many other places to go !!

Cheer up !! CJ

P.S. I do tend to agree with Bomber (I believe it was Bomber?) that it's kinda like coupons and rebates, they expect that most folks won't bother or actually collect the money back guarantee after an extended period of time !!

That is truly horrible. Sounds like you have every right the be pissed to high Heaven. Is there no one at Hal's or Buell who are willing to listen to you Mikej? I really hope that even if things don't work out that you'll still come out and socialize, even if it is not under the BRAG banner.

There are so many ins & outs for the company on the warranty stuff its not even funny. On your basic 1 yr or now its a 2 yr warranty if you change anything....& I mean ANYTHING on your bike & you have problems that require warranty work, they..meaning either the dealership or Buell can void your warranty without blinking an eye.

As far as rebates go, I always make copies of everything & then send it in. When I bought this computer years ago it had about $300 worth of rebates to 2 or 3 different places. Waited & waited for the $$$. But since I had copies of the forms & had all the numbers & dates I called them all up & asked "wheres my money?". In every instance they claimed to have never gotten the paperwork, or had "misplaced" it. But also in every instance they were able to "process" my claim over the phone. They truly do hope the consumer will either forget to send in the paperwork, or doesnt send it in during the proper timeframe, or the incorrect sized envelope, etc etc.

Got class tonight so will check in the morning sometime after the department meeting, if I'm still in residence here. No hurry. Not acting until the eye of the storm is centered.

On the humorous side, who ever would have thought that a 1999 and 2000 Buell could have survived without making a claim on an extended warranty.

MikeJ, you truly do have a "Lemon"...Yours works! Then again, so does my Y2K X1. I empathize with your dilemma. I know what a stickler you are for details and diligent follow up. Ergo, I am totally confident that the cause of all your anguish is the USPS.

Wonder what marketing genius thought that one up and where they are working today?

They probably got promoted at HD-Corp because the process from what I was TOLD by the individual upstairs at Hal's is that the dealership was told exactly and precisely how the warranty money back deal was to be handled and the individual upstairs said her staff (aka: Beth) would not have done it any other way. Yeah, right, as I recall I sat there filling out all the paperwork at Beth's desk and she handed me my package with no instructions to mail anything in once I got home and I recall her saying that she'd get the warranty paperwork processed.
I somehow doubt the problem is in the exchange of mail via the USPS.
I agree that many rebates for a nickel to a few dollars are designed on the assumption that people will not follow up, but for over $1000 I'll damn sure follow up.

Now take this hook out of my cheek you snagged me with to drag me back in here so I can get back to other crapola, I've got a long range vacation to plan and a medium range bike project to work the details out on. Hmmm, "Money Back Guarantee", gas tank needing lettering, hmmm, could be some potential in that, hmmm.

I just HATE when folks try to tell me they know Exactly how to do it and would NOT make a mistake, puullleeezzzeee !!!

How would she know anyway, I'm assuming Beth isn't there, did she sit with her 24 hours a day to know whether or not she might have ever made a mistake !!

Now don't let this get you riled up, I'm only agreeing with your feelings !!
