Gearhead,

I have to wait til the Brits arrive to make specific arrangements. I don't have a specific day in mind yet and was going to wait til they landed and had their plans established.

I'll probably try calling tomorrow - the should be in by afternoon (though will be pooped)

oops - off one day - they arrive Vegas on the 23rd, arrive Anaheim 24th.

Shucks, it'd be fun if they could come up to Wrightwood for the BRAG ride - if it weren't so far for them... they're only here about 4 days.

In case some of youse don't get the GS Brag newsletter/email - we're doing the monthly ride from Glendale this Sunday. Starting there, we're going up and over the Crest - coffee/potty stop at Newcomb's then on to Wrightwood and watch Todd Robinson's TEVO recording of the last GP race. Todd operates Cal Sportbike http://www.calsportbike.com and til a couple weeks ago was co-owner of Pacific Track Time. He had an auto accident and due to the demands made on him during the recovery, had to sell his interest in PTT to focus on Cal Sportbike and his recovery.

BRAG Chapter will be buying the pizza from the funds leftover after the last BBQ.

Train leaves Glendale HD at 9:30

You should let Candice know if you can make it so she has a rough head count - she's negotiating pizza deals. She's emailable at 2whlnut@sbcglobal.net

Ferris,

Feeling pretty good, all things considered. Small chip on the tip of the right ulna (forearm bone) so only need to use wrist splint. Concussion left me a barely-apparent amount more forgetful than normal. The doctor offered to write me a note to take to work saying that I am allowed to do NO THINKING for a full week. Told him that that would be nothing unusual.

Once my "pals" realized that I was OK, the SH!T started (plus I just turned 50 on Tues) Another racer sent me a touching email expressing gratitude that I was nearly uninjured after getting off at 120-ish but said I need to pick up my speed in Turn 8 - if I was racing fast enough, I should have been killed (or words to that effect) - you gotta understand the troops I work with - this ain't outta the ordinary.

Looks like the big expense will be leathers, gloves and helmet! More than Medical or mechanical!! The bike appears to be straight, forks straight, wheels straight. Need all right side controls, upper and lower triple clamps and belt. Bike just looks like it slid 120 yards on its right side on pavement and dirt.

hey, Happy Birthday! (and can we not talk anymore about having just turned 50???.......)

i like the NO THINKING thing. maybe have your doc go ahead and write you up the note, but have him/her leave the name part blank and then forward it to me, k?

darn lucky your scooter didn't dig in and do some high-siding as it skipped across the Mojave. hmmmm, your episode probably reinforces the intent behind the logo/artwork you had commissioned recently, eh? ;)

Ferris,

Yeah, this celebration of the decimal system is highly overrated.

Unfortunately the no-thinking part is starting to wear off... now I have to start making up excuses again.

I really have to see what the expenses are going to be. Going to Z leathers this AM to see about Fix-em options or buy new ones (bummer). Can't really see getting new ones on this month's "race budget" - my mad money just went into a week's trip to DC for a dance opening night at the Kennedy and Simon and Garfunkel concert at Staples... both in November.

Matty is putting together a parts/price list for the scooter based on what he saw looking over the bike at Willow Sunday. Really don't see the Muell being on the track in November because of the bucks I'm going to have to spend on everything else (don't think I'm not tempted to duct-tape the leathers and head out anyways...) but having done one turn-8 get-off, I now know how ground-up leathers can get and though expensive, I'd rather have the bull's skin left on the track than mine.

WTF, it's only money...

Yaaa HOOOO! Leathers are repairable! That will buy me a couple months before I get my new Z leathers. Got measured while there so all I have to do now is agree on colors and lettering and then get 'em done!

Not having to buy leathers means the "race budget" this month is not looking so bleak.

Amazing the amount of damage to the leathers now that we spread them out on the floor to mark them for repairs. Looks like I really slid a long ways on my back and right side - they're going to have to put a huge patch there from my shoulder down to the bottom of my ribs. All the other places that wore down to the plastic armor (knee, elbow and shoulder will just take smaller patches. A few other places were torn and will just be hand-sewn.

Can't say enough about having heavy protection after having come off at speed.

Dress for the crash, not for the ride!

Timbo,

Good to see ya yesterday on the ride!

Well, yeah my get-off was carefully planned ahead of time and executed flawlessly. There I was after getting my front wheel hit - I'm in a tank slapper in turn 8 thinking to myself: "hmmm... if this gets any worse, I may just have to consider stepping off of this motorcycle." and then... figured that as long as the bike was going to likely crash, decided to cushion the impact by placing the bike on the inside of my right thigh so that it would lessen the initial impact damage to the bike and then finish sliding out in a graceful, classic low-side slide. Piece of cake.

Actually it was more like the realization that he was going to come waaay wide and collect me as I came by him - and at that speed, there really was no-where to go so it went more like: awwww SH!T - BANG BANG BANG and then the dusty slide. Was surprised to be feeling intact after the stop and popped up to get the he!! out of the way (you'd be surprised how a crashed bike will draw others right in behind - target fixation is REAL).

The embarrassing thing is having to work with other racers - this email from co-worker Russ Schaeffer after he found out I was OK:

"Not too bad for a turn eight deal. When Davy drove our FZR400 off in eight, it looked like someone put a mortar shell under the tank, the thing was wadded BIG TIME. All 4 corners were gone! I was still picking pieces of desert out of the thing a year later.

Glad you stepped off the easy side sounds like you got away fairly clean. Your corner speed might need to come up a little, you should have been killed, so you weren’t trying hard enough! Good luck with the doc."

I tell ya, I can't get no respect!

The Golden State BRAG group met on Sunday at Glendale HD-Buell for our monthly ride. We had eleven bikes show up, with everyone happy and ready to ride. Well...all except Tim our group leader who got pulled over and cited for, get this, *no red reflector* on the rear of his bike and then the cop threw in an *excessive noise* on his exhaust for good measure. This was just before arriving at Glendale. So he was a little hot upon arrival, but soon cooled off.

We rode Angeles Crest up to N3. Took that West, over to nine mile (upper big Tujunga) and took that East back up to Angeles Crest. Then continued up the Crest to Newcombs where we took a short rest before continuing over the Crest to Wrightwood where we stopped at CalSportbike to have lunch and watch last weeks GP race on tape while we ate.

The Crest was clear and nice up till Newcombs. Further up the road however, there were a LOT of rocks on the road in several places. So many in some places we idled through at very slow speeds.

Tod, the owner of CalSportbike was very accommodating, I think he was glad to have the company. He gave Candice (Tim Hurleys wife) and I a smokin' deal on some SIDI athletic shoes he had on close out. He had two pair left, her size and my size, ten bucks each. What a deal! I had to buy 'em.

On our way home we took Angeles Crest back towards Newcombs but went West on N4, took a couple roads I don't remember, but ended up at Mt Emma Rd. and took that back up to Angeles Crest then took that back to the 210.

It was a great day despite the rocks on the second half of the 2 and the ash that was everywhere. The fires are a true tragedy and were on everyones mind as well.

Oh BTW, as we split paths at the end of the day, Tim vowed to fight his citation to the bitter end. STAND TALL...DON'T TAKE IT TIM!

The Long Beach International Motorcycle Show is coming up - December 12 - 14.

We gonna meet up at Denny's? Maybe do a pre or post show ride or something? Hmm... This might be an interesting diversion for the Glendale BRAG group...

Saro - we ought to make it happen. Group meeting at Dennys or somewhere else and ride in/out together. Cool idea. Maybe go take in "Faster" supposed to be showing in Long Beach then too!

I was in such a panic about this weekend, I forgot to wind up the spring on my calendar... November, December... what's a month between friends?

We gotta get together for the Denny's breakfast and then find out where "Faster" is playing.
