It was not the best weekend. As you may recall, the Uly had a bad stator, that I was in the middle of replacing. I was intending to go to Ashveille, and it looked like the Blast was the bike I was going to do it on.

But the Blast is not an ideal bike for 250 mile rides, and I decided that I could button up the Uly in short order. I did get the Uly fixed, though it took longer than I anticipated. I appreciate Mark's 4 cut off bolts for getting the primary gasket on, now that I've done it w/o the bolts. But I eventually did finish.

So I set off on Saturday morning, and things seem to be going well. No electrical problems, no mechanical problems. Then all of a sudden the bike starts rapidly loosing power. The oil light came on so I grabbed the clutch and hit the kill switch. There was a clicking noise coming from the bike, I don't know what it was. I heard something "break."

I got the bike towed back to the house. I checked to see if it would start a couple of times. It turns over and will backfire occasionally, but not run.

I can't see that anything you could do inside the primary cover would make the engine not run. It seems likely that it was something I did, but I can't image what. The stator/VR was charging the battery nicely, and the batt is still reading above 12 with the headlights on. The transmission will shift and the clutch pulls nicely. So perhaps this is a new problem. Ray Price is coming out tomorrow to haul my bike to their shop. We shall see.

If anybody doesn't want to stay with us or Rubberdown for the Smokeout, let me know and I will get a list of local motels and phone numbers for you also. I have plenty of floor space, a couple of couches, a blow up mattress, and a couple of rooms for privacy at my disposal. Not to mention about 2 acres of grassy flats to pitch a tent on. I am planning a bonfire for one of those nights also. Maybe when Mike W gets back in town we can get together and plan something more concrete

Hope all had a good time at Suches.

I've been on assignment at the BMW Performance Center for 7 days.

First assignment was guiding a three day Adventure Tour for a group of motorsports notables including Hall of Fame member Elliott Forbes Robinson and his friend Rob Dyson. They were a great group and we showed them lots of what NC,SC,TN,and GA have to offer in a 50/50 mix of on and off road wanderings. It was really a good time with some great guys.

After returning to the Center, I had another four days of set-up and assisting in on/off road riding clinics for a BMW MOA rally that was going on there. Our classes are nothing like the MSF offerings and can be really challenging for experienced riders so they all worked hard and had a good time.

I'm beat but had a good time and made some good money and friends. Off to the next thing.

Daytona's not happening for me ... at least not till March ... too much going on around the home front and I've been gone a lot.

Anybody doing the USDESMO track days at CMP this weekend? I think I'll go for one day.

Hehehe ... Before we left on the Adventure Tour ... the auto show models were at the BMW Center for "training" ... Whew!!!! Them's some purty girls!!!! I want that "training" assignment next!

Do me one favor Jim before they come get it, take the fully charged battery out of the blast, or the old one form the uly put it int he uly and try to start it...
just trying to rule it out...

E's bike had the battery die last week, thing woudl turn over all day but no juice to power the electronics.

Hey Rubberdown. Sounds like you had a great motorcycle adventure. I have a little mis-adventure riding on some gravel / rock roads around Suches. The Pirelli Sync tires did not hold up well when I hit a rock at about 25mph. Even so, I really liked the ride. Riding through the woods with no signs of civilization is just great. It was early in the morning with cool temperatures. I definitely want to continue riding the Uly off pavement. I know I could never keep up with you, but some time we will have to take a cruise off road. I really think my next bike will be more dirt oriented.

Jim N. I was thinking the same thing as Mark. I was helping a local guy with his M2 that would turn but not fire. The issue was a VR. When I metered the battery it was reading 11.9V. Even so the battery did not have enough to start and run the bike. This will not account for the "break" you heard. That is troubling.

Jim R. and Mike - Too early to say I am coming to the Smoke Out but if I do I would not mind pitching a tent in the yard. I think if we have a good showing of C3'ers I will have to move it up on the list of riding events I want to make it to next year.

Congratulations Carlos and Kristi!

Mike- We missed you at Buelltoberfest. Do you need any crew for Saturday? I could use a good ride and I might just ride up there. My sister lives about 20 miles south of CMP on the north side of Camden.

19 years. Where does the time go. It takes time to understand that life does get better with time. You hear some say, "I am as good once, as I once us." I'm better. No, I can not run the eight miles a day I once did. No, I can not fit into those 32" waist jeans I once did. No, I do not need that hair brush I once had. But I am in a better place today than I was 19 years ago.

You see 19 years ago I was searching for my niche in life. I told myself what I wanted to do for a living, but I was not listening to anyone back then, even myself. So I had to search and try out a lot of hats that did not fit. I stumbled into what I wanted to do all along. I have moved up nicely over the past 12 years at work. It has allowed me a luxury I thought I would never be able to afford. Not that new Buell, but to be able to afford for Kristi to stay home with the children. I can not believe Kristi ever agreed to it in the first place. I met her some 25 years ago and even then she had a job. A domestic goddess I never thought she would be.

Back 19 years ago about this time, I saw my bride in her gown for the first time. We had been an item for five years officially by them. Love at first sight, well maybe. All our friends knew when we were at the same place at the same time, we were together even before we were together. But on this day 19 years ago, Kristi in her gown never looked more beautiful. I was truly moved by the sight and still am when I look at pictures of her that day. Why would this beautiful lady ever be willing to marry me? A question I have asked many times since then. As time went by I was concerned how would our relationship last through the years. It is amazing when you realize that the beautiful lady you married so many years ago has an even more beautiful soul. Describing Kristi as a beautiful soul is just too much of an under statement.

So today I am at work and deep in thought to the day's problems. The phone rings at the office and I see its Kristi's number. I answer and hear, "Happy anniversary!" I left home early today, dealing with the slow down in business and trying to get the shop in a good place to ride out the economy's down turn. All I can think is how to cut cost to secure jobs in the department. For the second time, I forget what day it is and why it is important. The economy may be in shambles, but the tragedy today was me forgetting the importance of today. Forgetting what is important in life, I find myself a rich man. I may not have a large bank account, but I am rich where it is important. On the phone she notices I get quiet and knows I feel like a heel for forgetting again. She reminded me just last night for crying out loud. Is she mad? No, she is trying to console me so I do not beat myself up for putting the daily grind in front of her. So I find myself again asking that question I have asked so many times through the last 19 years. Why would this beautiful lady ever marry me?

Happy Anniversary Kristi.
