Supafast, make sure you get the two ECM's he has. we bought that kit from fredrick H-D but needed the new ECM. So to the point, if you have a 2003 xb9 you need the old ecm that came in the kit if he still has it? I told him and his dad not to chuck either of them.

Joe

Stopped by the shop last week on the off chance you might be in visiting but "no joy". I picked up a couple of HD Iraq souvenirs for you and wanted to drop them off.

Are you still bored? I see by a DHL tracker that my budget-priced HID conversion kit landed in Chantilly VA a couple of hours ago.

Scott, I met Court twice I think I think he was the one who took my picture when I met Eric Buell, I got Eric to sign my lucky devils poster. Then on my b-day when I rode up with another Buell rider/ instructor to get my book signed. I'm sorry I missed him this weekend. You guys next time they're up there at Liberty we have to ride up to hear some of the cool Buell stories, he told me a BattleTrax story with flour that was pretty interesting. I'll be on Skyline drive and staying near the Luray Caverns this weekend. So hold the seat I'll come in and make a deal. K

Scott, I went there last night and got the kit (before your post). I was only given one ECM, the one that is part of the kit. So will it work?

Joe, the kit is too big for me to strap to the bike and ride all the way out to you. I will have to drive it out and leave it with you and then ride the bike out. Is there an eve this week that I could do that as the weekend weather is looking good.

Thanks

It may not. the new ECM's only work on 05' and later bikes http://buell.com/en_us/gear/accessories/product.as p?Menu_ID=2&ProductLineID=3&CategoryID=1&ProductID =2213

we had to get a hole new ECM for his 2006 XB9R. the kit he got was for 2003-04 XB9's. he really wanted the same pipe I had so he spent the $ to do so. he was hit by a car and had the bike totaled. they keep the race kit because it was not OEM and the insurance company said "take it". you may have a little trouble trying to find a race ECM for 03',04 XB9's. I would call him or his dad and see if they keep it like I told them to. another option is to use the "direct link" from Al at americansportbike.com but it may not work as the ECM's we nonflash type untile 2004. in 2005 they changed the TPS from a 3 point to a 12 point so if you cant find a good race ECM you will need to upgrade your intake with a 2005 and later one that has the 12 point TPS so you can run the 05' race EMC you currently have. all other compnents will interchange related to it.

P.S or FYI if a old motor (2003-2007) needs replaced the customer will only get the most current motor ie 2008-09. I had a customer with a 03R that got the hole new motor, intake with a new race ECM under his ESP plan due to them not producing the old motors. parts are still sent for them but they will not assemble a "old style" motor.

I just sold my '03' race ECM too. Cindy, worst case scenario find some one to cut you a map for ECM spy and copy that on to your stock ecm. Just remember to save the original somewhere, just in case you need it. You should also be able to run the stock number on your ecm to find out which one it is. If it matches the current number then it is the modern ecm.

Cindy - this weekend should be fine for me. Tomorrow is shot, I have PT in the morning, an appointment with my trauma doc (followup) in Baltimore around lunch, then back to PT in the evening. Friday, nothing scheduled (other than sitting around aching from all that PT, lol).

Should be a pretty straightforward kit - a muffler, a couple clamps (I think), an air filter and an ECM. Send me part numbers when you get a chance and I'll crossreference them at work, I need to stop by there anyway.

Don - if you want to tackle the HID's, just let me know. I have to do some wiring work on my Jeep anyway (dead foglights) so I'll be in that "mode" already : )

Electronics are hit-or-miss with me right now, I have a computer that "sometimes-boots". Time for new hard drive...

I'm heading out to Seneca Rocks on the bike for 3 days. Camping out and hiking. The challenge will be keeping my gear to a minimum. If it falls through I'll definitely be up for some local riding.

Hey Joe

Boy I wish I'd checked this site earlier! Opened up the flyscreen to see how it shaped up for room for the HID ballast. Decided I had to move the wiring for the PIAAs. Moved the relay, etc, decided to hard-wire a couple spade connections I made at the initial installation. Did all that work, then tested the PIAAs. Nothing. Tested all the connections and it seemed I wasn't getting any power off the battery feed, although the switch worked. I thought sure the was an inline fuse but although I checked five times there wasn't one. Redid all the connections - same story - switch worked and you could hear the relay click but still no power to the lamps. Still getting no power from the main feed. I figured in all my wrestling with the cables I must have stretched the wire so I pulled the wire I had painstakingly fished along the factory bundles that run beneath the airbox. No splices, no obvious breaks - and still no power. Finally exposed the last few inches of the wire to the positive battery cable and "voila" - found the inline fuse ( blown, of course) that I had tucked away so neatly I missed it. Then back to refishing the wire back from the battery to underneath the flyscreen.

Here's a tip - with the flyscreen removed, airbox off and left side scoop dropped you can get a pretty decent view of the routing of the factory wiring bundles and keep any new wires well away from the cylinder heads.

As long as I have it all apart I figured I may as well fish an additional wire along the same route and go work off the battery rather than risk powering the HIDs of the factory harness ( as some have scorched theirs with this particular kit ).

Needless to say its 3 am now so I'm going to call it a day and put the rest of it back together in the morning.

Im still not clear on how to control the head lights with the battery/relay configuration but I'm guessing I'll need a switch of some sort. Another task to tackle in the morning I guess.

Joe, went back over to the guys house I bought the kit from last night b/c he did give me the ECM for 05 and later. Swapped it for the 03 ECM. I dont have part #'s with me right now but I can write them down after work and let you know what they are tomorrow. Or I can call Frederick and leave you a note there of what they are? If its ok with you, I can drive out the stuff to you tomorrow after work and leave it with you and then this weekend, if you are up for it, slap the stuff on. Then drive back out to p/u old parts. Let me know. Good luck with your PT!

I PM'd you yesterday with my cell #.

Thank you again!

Saturday I'm supposed to be on my way to NJMP for the Inside Pass event.. However, due to a need for certain safety parts (brake pads) if they don't arrive in time, well.. I'm not going to the track without brakes.. I think that would be a mistake.

Plus, I'm going to the race pads on my 1125R and thinking I'll flush the fluid and put in some Motul 620 high temp fluid instead. The thinking being that with the two changes I should get much better response and feel from the fronts.. (at least that's what I'm hoping for after talking with Fredericks' race bike building Mike Shultz)

So, if I don't go.. I guess I'm up for local stuff as well (I have enough brakes for street riding, but not for really 'hard' braking)..

If I'm local this weekend, well.. I'll sound off here.

(gotta call Frederick Buell about the recalls [re-flash 2 and new oil cap!]- unfortunately they seem to be on the injured reserves right now.. so I'm dealing with 'Harley' guys instead.. Heal Fast Joe! We all miss ya and can't wait to get out with ya again!)

Pete, I'm going to try and come down for the Oct. 26 Summit Point date. And try and bring a SV650S rider with me. My Teaching schedule comes first. Maybe Jack would like to join us if everything is free with this weekend. I would like to see how Team Promotion runs its track day. K

Pete - yeah, I told him it was OK to learn from anothers' dumb mistakes..but he had to go and try stuffing his bike too. <shrug> Kids... The good news is, he's MUCH less damaged than I was - couple cracked ribs and a bad ankle with a walking cast is all.

Nope. Did not get race kit on... There was a lack of communication. lol! Oh well. I did ride on Saturday though. Went everywhere! Went from EC, to Thurmont, to Frederick, to Laurel, back to EC. All back roads. It was awesome! Put about 200 mi on.
Yesterday I watched the Ravens get stomped. They were horrible!

It was a great weekend to be out riding! I did a solo ride out to Seneca Rocks on Saturday and got back today. It was a great time! If I continue to do these multi-day adventures, I think I'm going to have to seriously consider a Uly XT or at least a Ventura rack. I got a ton of stuff on the bike it was just a pain loading and unloading. I also had the bike on some rough gravel roads with tons of pot-holes to avoid. More suspension travel and ground clearance would have been nice.

Here are the trip pics:

Kath:

STOP . . . this is costing me a fortune!

I had something like 12 boxes arrive the other day . . . cross bar bags, under seat bags, 4 relays, two back-off units (regular and XP), PIAA lights, VMW HID lights, PIAA 510's, switch panel for XP, flashlight (bar mounted), auto switch and then a letter in the mail from my old pusher Andy Goldfine . . . I'm going to have to get a second job!

By the way . . . . the PIAA solve the stock Uly light concern . . . I went out late last night and when, in the middle of Times Square, you can see your lights lighting stuff up . . . well, that's a LOT of light.

Court, my wallet goes up and down Thanks to the Motorcycle safety jobs I have, I think I will always be gainfully employed there. I was looking into the PIAA lights but was concerned about the ULY charging system not being big enough. So far I have charged my phone, used the GPS and heated grips going. The ULY fan acts different than the City Cross while plugged in with heated gear. Fan runs fast and slow on the ULY, on the City cross it stays constant.
Christmas! K

The LED monitor is the only way to go to resolve that. I installed it at the same time as the lights. The voltage monitor was a simple 20 minute install.

I have had no problems and get an "amber" only with all lights on and heated grips on full.
