The last 4 days of weather completely made up for March Badness. We had a great time; I'll post pics shortly.

DANG I wish we didn't live so far from the mountains....

My thoughts as well but if we did live closer to them hills, I would be broke buying gas to ride all the time; or worse yet would be tired of riding. There is a side of me that is glad the hills are far away as there is the anticipation factor that builds up during the trip to the destination that adds to the whole experience.

All in all a good trip. The only mishaps for the trip for me were...

1. Bolt holding on the shifter vibrated its way out on friday, but I was fortunate enough to see it before it came all the way out.

2. Got some bad gas or it was that my bike really didn't like the regular. I think it was some bad gas cause my dads bike ran fine on the regular gas.

3. Almost had some guy who didn't know how to move his bike easily on grass pull a 180 and try to knock my bike over on saturday at TWO. That would have made 2 bikes of mine on the right side in one weekend except this one would have been a softer landing on the grass. I am sooooo glad he was finally able to control that machine.

4. A safe but miserable ride home sunday for me because the health of my stomach decided it was a perfect time for it to feel ill. I made it home and rested all afternoon to try and feel better. It almost worked. Still feel a bit crummy but I'm going to make it.

I will have to agree, the weather was perfect. You could not have asked for any better weather. Eryc, Matt, Hugh, it was good to see ya'll again and I hope we can get together again soon and ride.

Oh and thanks again Eryc for the escort around the loop on saturday evening! Great pace! I wonder what those people were thinking and saying when we all passed them in the turns and they saw the sparks flying from some of the bikes and my shoes?

Had a great time as well. My dad really enjoyed his first trip to Suches with his new 1125r. He has made 2 prior trips with me, but was on an Ultra Glide.

Great meeting RC and SCBuellKat this weekend. I was thoroughly impressed with all of RC's inventions on his bike. BTW, what was the name of the mirrors you have on yalls' bikes?

Looks like we have enough of a crew now to get our own cabin in Suches. The cabin I always rent has more than enough room for 8-10 guys/ladies and is only $300 for the weekend.

Matt, looking forward to some patches. We need to get together some time and ride/ talk music.

Charlie,

Thanks for the offer, but im throwing out the stock tuber setup and going with a xb-s front end since i have the forks sitting in my shed. Getting my pm front caliper off to change tires royally pissed me off.

Eryc, sounds good to me.

There may be other sources. We are not affiliated with these folks either.

Sorry I missed it, especially with an '08 Uly in the garage rarin' to go and a perfect weather forecast. Well, it wasn't for any lack of trying, and as they say, timing is everything. Did the gas situation up there iron itself out? The Suches store reopen? Anybody demo a KTM?

Eryc, if you want napolean bar ends, im taking the ones off my m2. I have some more standard mirrors coming since im tired of bar ends.

Jim, the gas situation wasnt great, but it wasnt terrible. Just had to search it out really.

Matt, I'll give you a call this evening. I have the two different types of standard style mirrors for the Buell so we can possibly do some horse trading if you are interested.

Jwnsc, the Suches store is no longer known as Dale's unfortunately. I spoke with the new owners and they filled me in on the whole story. Anyhow, they are back up and running with limited merch in the store. They did have fuel, but ran out of premium quickly. I did not get to ride a KTM b/c their lame insurer will not allow anyone under the age of 25 to demo their bikes. So being 23 was a no-go. I was...

not happy.

I heard a few reviews on the KTMs. I heard the RC8 was very disappointing. Twitchy throttle that made for real problems getting back into the throttle after engine braking into a turn. Heard good reviews about the Duke bikes and the adventure models. Did not hear anything that would make me want to go out and buy one, especially since they would not let me demo one.

Jim, I read several bad reports on the store but it actually wasn't bad. The folks were very friendly there. Their inventory is pretty much wiped out, but I think the early reports of them being biker-unfriendly were premature. Either that, or it didn't take them long to figure out who their bread-and-butter would be.

You did miss out on an awesome weekend. We couldn't have asked for better weather.

On the KTM's, I test rode the Super Duke. I thought it looked better in person than in pics. The details (controls, machined surfaces, etc.) looked very well-done. The suspension felt like a rock when I sat on it. I weigh ~190; I'm not sure if it was just the setup or the suspension is that stiff. The bike handled well but felt very different than an XB. I liked the exhaust note while on the bike- it sounded raspy but not obnoxious. Power delivery felt very harsh to me; you could really feel the power pulses through the frame and throttle on/off was very abrupt. Power delivery was very harsh in general. I'm thinking Buell's no-slack belt drive isn't all hype. Seating position was good for me and the bike is much narrower at the seat front (like most bikes) compared to an XB. It seems like it'd be a fun bike to own, but I'd definitely want to compare an 1125CR before I bought one. BTW- I've seen a black one riding around Summerville at least once.

Thanks Hugh. I came pretty close to seeing if there was a rental available at Low Country on Thursday and heading up there.
Then the thought of trying to keep up with you guys on a Electra Glide crossed my mind and reason prevailed.

Jim- Evidently riding an Electra Glide wouldn't have bought you any slack- the C3 guys and 3%'ers kept talking about trying to keep up with Ferris Bueller on his Harley in the mountains.

I have really GOT to figure out a way to live closer to the twisties.

Sadly, that is how many of the wrecks occur in the mountains. People panic and lock up or they get target fixation on the car in the other lane. That dude had plenty of room to make the turn, but froze. Indeed, SQUIDS ride Harleys too.

Electric speedometers are the devil. I wish I could have made it up there with you guys... Maybe in the spring... I should have some vacation days I can use up by then.

Matt, make sure you get that retro fit kit if you're getting a XB speedo sensor. (not sure how all that works.)

Hey guys, amazing how quickly things can turn from amazingly good to amazingly bad.

I got home last night after work (still pretty tired from the long ride back Sunday). About the time I'd finished supper, the phone rang, my Mom's next door neighbor was at her house. Mama had evidently fallen, had a huge knot on her head, and was very nauseated. I grabbed Marianne and jumped in the car to head ~65 miles to Mom's house. Before we got there the neighbor decided Mama was getting worse and called the ambulance. We spent ~4 hours in the emergency room near home. Mom was conscious and semi-lucid, but the catscan showed a skull fracture and bleeding. They sedated her and put her on a ventilator. She was medevac'ed down to MUSC in Charleston (~20 miles from where I live) about 1 AM. I got home at 2 AM. Got up this morning and headed down to MUSC and spent the day sitting with her but she's still sedated. They say the plan is to watch and wait for a few days and see how she responds. She's 89 years old so this is pretty serious deal.

Thoughts and prayers would be appreciated. I guess the Lord provided 4 great days of companionship and riding to get us ready for this...
