i can tell you the few HD/Buell dealerships we have down here in miami (Peterson's North and South)hardly acknowledge the Buell brand, yeah they have bikes on the floor and some apparel but the parts departments look at you funny when you say "Buell".

I was at Destination Daytona this afternoon, they had a bunch of Buells and apparel. My wife said I should get a 1125CR as soon as I sell my other RS.

I love her.

OHD just got a used 2008 1125R in.

I think they are asking around 10K, in case anyone is interested.

James specifically told me last time I bought a part at Seminole HD that he's not allowed to extend any discount unless you bought a bike there. Hey nephew....tell Mike he's still OK to hang with us even though we see no financial benefit!

Oh yeah. I've got a small problem guys.

Over the last couple of days I've noticed a wobble in my front end that makes the handlebars wobble a bit and it tends to get worse as I approach highway speeds. My initial three ideas are front tire out of balance, front bearing going bad or steering bearing going bad.

Any ideas?

Could be any of the three...based only on what you wrote, I wouldn't rule out a front brake caliper issue either.

Even though it doesn't occur when I'm braking Jago? Would worn pads cause this?

Neck bearings?

Worn pads wouldn't do it, I don't think.

FYI,

I put my Lyndallfront brakes pads on this weekend. To echo the comments often seen on this board:
linear feel vs the strong "grab" of Buell pads

Slight ZZZZ sound from pads

Eliminated the pulsing I had when slowing to a stop

Overall I like them a lot.

Paul, if your front tire is close to worn out it gets my vote.

Paul, did the problem all of the sudden start happening or has it been progresivly getting worse?

From the last time i saw your bike, i thought you just recently replaced your front tire...so that would eliminate an out of balanced front wheel. Although how tight did your torque the front wheel? Per spec or elbow feel?

A severe warped rotor would cause something you describe and be noticable under braking but it is highly UNLIKeLY.

Jack the bike up, stabilize, and rock the front end looking for excessing play...

Call me if you need a hand...

New tire and I didn't over torque the wheel when I put it back on. I just do elbow tight.

It just started this weekend.

Paul, I just meant that based on the information you gave previously, you wouldn't want to rule out possibilities.

Your initial thoughts do seem the most likely. As Sam said, a warped rotor is unlikely, but still a distant possibility. You said you don't feel it when you brake, so I would now rule that one out.

If it started happening right after you changed the tire, that would be the ideal culprit. Here are a few other thoughts:

By highway speeds, are you referring to a legal 55-75 MPH range? Or are you like most of us and go about 75-90 on the highway?

Was the tire brand new or had it been broken in when you noticed the problem? I had a similar problem when I put on a new Pilot Road Front. The bike didn't feel right until after about 50 miles.

Was the tire balanced on a static or a dynamic balancer? Both work, but a dynamic balancer is more accurate.

When it was balanced, were all the weights put on one side of the rim or split evenly between the two sides? This is a relatively common, yet easy to fix cause.

Do you have a shop service manual? If not, let me know what year your bike is. I might have a present for you.

Elsewhere...

Frank, I think I might try out those pads on my next change. I think the sound you're hearing might pass as you break them in more, probably after you put 100 miles or so on them. How are they for brake dust? Do they produce less dust than the stock pads? If so, I'm definitely getting them!

I purchased the tire and had it mounted at Cycle Gear, so I'm not entirely sure what kind of balancer they use. Another one of my employees said it might be a bad tire too. It only has maybe 2000 miles on it.

I do have mixed tires on my bike though. Corsa III on the front and a newer Strada on the back.

Just some other thoughts:

If it has 2000 miles on it, then tire break in shouldn't be the issue.

So if I'm right, you removed the wheel and took the rim to Cycle Gear. They installed the tire and balanced it, and then you installed the rim on the bike at home, correct?

How long after this happened did you start noticing the problem? Were there any other changes made right before the problem started?

You might verify that your spacers are installed correctly. Double check your lug torque, axle pinch bolts, etc. Pinch bolts are a very easy thing to overlook!

I would also check to see if the wheel weights are balanced on the left and right sides. You probably would have noticed a long time ago if that were the case, but still worth checking.

If you can snap a few pics of the axle, bearings, pinch bolts, etc...and upload them, maybe we can put our heads together a little better. At the worst, we can always look at it on Wednesday.

I did exactly everything as you've outlined it. This problem just occurred this weekend with no issues before.

I'll check the pinch bolts, but I just replaced them them with the tire replacement as one allen head was stripped.

Wheel weights should be on rotor side only (as per manual).

Also nobody has mentioned the front isolator.

Paul, get a new tire and match it to the rear.

I must admit, I didn't have the manual handy when I was thinking of possibilities regarding the wheel weights. It would make sense then if Cycle Gear didn't know any better and put the weights on both sides instead of just the rotor side. They don't get many chances to work with Buells.

Paul, without actually seeing it, I'm kind of at a loss for other causes. Hammer had a good point, no one thought to mention the isolators yet.

Paul,
I would check your bearings...wheel and neck....James had his wheel bearings grenade at about 30k miles...his neck bearings were bad as well...

Johnny's sounds good to me.

I'll be riding with the Lakeland gang Sat. unless my new tires come in. I ordered 2 Pirelli Stradas from the Ridge and will be getting them installed Sat. (if they arrive Fri.) FYI those 2 tires installed at Ridge HD are over $100 cheaper than at Seminole HD.

From Daytona Sportbikes-

Ok this just in.................i talked to a sgt. Miller of orange co. Sheriff office and i quote " we will be doing checks on bikes in and at this event checking vin as well as motor numbers and tags against m/c endorcements" they are teamed up with volusia, seminole, oceola co. There will be 75 officers walking taking down tag as well as vin and motor numbers...he told me they just busted a ring in volusia co. With 176 stolen bikes/motors 9 people arrested.there will be road blocks set up on the east and west lane of 50 when this event is over as well.

So, have your papers ready, if that's true.
