DAve, Hall's is where I bagged my SS, glad you like them.

Did you mean an '04 STS? I wasn't aware that they had released an 05 model...

Congrats! Martin Brickwood makes a really neat collet to replace the shims...stretch that interval waaaay out there!!

Awsome bikes out of the box, just wait until you start tweaking it a bit! BCM Ducati will set you down the correct path for sure.

Yeah JOhn I would have been called much worse if I would have committed to another motorcycle...before selling one or two. :)

I bailed on ridin' to MO. Two hours with rain (not sprinkles or drizzle) over here on the east side.

Funny day...I looked at the radar this morning and the FOUR of us at the QT decided to head south...The rain had stopped by House Springs...About 6 miles of rain...By the time we picked up Mark and Katy coming back up from picking up their R1100GS at Grass Roots the sun was trying to shine...After lunch and the Warehouse in Farmington it was shining...All the time south the rest of the day it was wonderful and then about at Richwoods it got cold and damp...We changed back into warm stuff in Lonedell...Wierd...Sunshine sandwich wrapped in soggy bread...Twas a good decision made at the QT, though...We missed you guys...

See Ya!

Bob

JOhn,
Go to Hall's and demo ride some bikes! They have 2 '98 S2Ts. One is stock (black) with 8k miles or so and the other has lightened fly wheel, pistons, and other dealer installed Ducati goodies w/28k. I rode the stocker and I tell ya... it rides nearly the same as the new '04 ST4s. I'm no highly refined test pilot. I mean the '04 is a new bike and all... but for $5k or less out the door... the '98s are great. From what I read the S2T, S4T have the same chassis, geometry, and suspension.

They invite demo rides.

Anyone riding SUnday? SUpposed to be near 80.
DAve W/ A NEW Ducati ... ... shirt!!!!

I want a S2T. NOt a ST2. If I were to go Duc, it would have to be the ST4s. I am also starting to like those ugly 1150GS BMW's. Next year's "Adventurer" is supposed to be much lighter and with 20% more power with a new 1200 cc engine. ALaska.......

Great engine on the Vstrom. I am just not sure that the rest of the bike would hold up under the abuse I would want to apply to it. Maybe. The price is right, but those dang saddle bags are wider than my ex-girlfriend's ass. Maybe a Vstrom with racetech suspension and alumunimummmummmm bags, extra lights, and such.

When you go into a BMW dealership, just walk around with your nose in the air. Also it helps if you have one of those golf shirts on. You know, one with an alligator on it. It draws salesmen like bees to honey. BMW riders are just like H/D riders except they know how to read and write and stay in better motels when on the road.

John...Your beemer/harley comparo is soooo right on...The hard core of both groups don't even realize how similarly aloof they are only expressing it in different ways...It's absolutely amusing...

There has got to be some Vstrom rider web sites where we can get an idea of the warts discovered so far and I don't know what to do about those bags...In a tip over they would have to self destruct...We had a Vstrom rider on our HSTA two-up ride but I didn't get a chance to talk to him because he tried to pass SuzeQ just as she was setting up to pass the pickemup in front of her and at the lunch stop she let him have it...

As to tomorrow, I will be at the hospital to see my father in the morning so I hope to get a bit of a ride in tomorrow afternoon but probably not before 1300 or so...I'll check here when I get home...

See Ya!

Ride Sunday November 9th

I'm up for it since I really didn't ride today...No one at either the
Eureka QT or the Washington Amoco...I have to take Shirl and her sis
to the airport leaving here at 0600...Prolly be back by 0830 to get a
bit more sleep so I'm thinking 1100 or later would be good for
me...Also be a bit warmer by then...Either post here or call me at
636.938.3788...If I don't hear from anyone I'll still stop by the
Eureka QT on the way out, say around noon...

See Ya!

Bob

Passing, courteousness, and cream pie.

As I ride with other riders, I see something happen once in a while that bothers me. These are riders that are courteous, caring individuals. You know, guys that hold the door open for the little old lady going into the supermarket, but once on their bike, their judgment gets a little cloudy.
I’m talking about passing the cages in areas that they should not. Afterwards, I have approached them and said, “ I could not believe you made that pass back there”. The usual response is, “Oh, I had lots of room”. I will agree that he had lots of room for him, but what about the rest of us on the road. What about the driver he passed, who brakes and pulls to the right because of the situation? What about the oncoming driver who slows down to avoid the situation? What about the other riders behind him that are distracted by his actions? When we ride with others, we should keep in mind that the other rider has our life in his hands, and likewise, his in ours.
There are several reasons for this discourteous kind of riding, but I think the root cause is the adrenaline/endorphin high we get when riding fast. I see the same type of behavior where I work. Individuals arrive full of excitement and the need for their “high”. They can be very rude while waiting for their “fix”. On the street they are like a different person; polite and courteous normal individuals.

This evening, as Bob and I were making our way back north and home, we stopped at a little restaurant for some dinner. The granddaughter was the waitress while grandma did the cooking. As we ate, grandma made her way out from the kitchen to sit with us and talk. You know how he loves to talk. I ordered a slice of pie after grandma’s friend told us how grandma made all her own pies. So there we were, engaged in polite conversation. Well Bob was. I did not have a lot to say. Granddaughter brings out my pie. I take one bite and know that this is not what I had in mind. There I was. What do I do? I ate the thing, smiled, paid, and left. Ten miles up the road I could still taste that pie. Yuck! Later tonight, it had gone away but if I had been discourteous enough to leave that pie there in the plate, I’m sure that taste would still be with me.
