Mr. Nance,
Gerotor!

Mr. Miller,
Will there be a Buell class in the bike show? Also, how bad would it be to enter a bike with a noticeably leaking fork seal in a bike show? Or maybe Ray Price H-D/Buell can actually get fork seals in less than a month (... and replace the fork seals and fork fluid as a warranty claim...). Court's on the case as of this afternoon, but I'm a little impatient after waiting a month.

To be a little more chipper - I'd definitely like to try out a 1125CR - the 1125R is just too uncomfortable for me. Although I wish I coulda tried one out while I was in Germany - talk about BANZAI!!!

So that is what is inside that assembly. That's really cool Brankin, thanks for the info.

Brankin, email sent about the fork seals, sorry if it doesn't help. As for the bike show, it is being handled by an outside person, I am not sure what classes will be involved, but their are over 25 classes now. Leaky fork seal would probably not get you best of show.

Mike,

Thanks for the info! It's the first I've heard about the parts being on backorder status. You'd have thunk 'the other' dealer woulda relayed that critical piece of information to me... Especially after I made it there last Saturday by 10:00 a.m. for an appointment scheduled at least 3 weeks in advance - to find out - "Gee, we ain't go the parts...".

So maybe it ain't the slack-*** Parts Departments fault...

But, then again, I shoulda got a phone call prior to my arranged appointment informing me that:
1) They ain't got the parts.
2) The parts are on backorder.

I guess I shouldn't expect anything along those lines from a dealer that doesn't have a Buell sign on the FRONT of their building, should I?

Mike, how much is a fork seal rebuild kit? It's about time for new fork oil for me. I thought I'd have new seals put in at the same time.

Jim, Two questions.

Have you had the fork oil replaced before?

Are you going to replace the oil yourself?

Hey all,

I know everyone is planning on the upcoming Buelltoberfest excursion right now, but I have to be the bearer of some unfortunate news which should necessitate the get together of as many Buell/C3/BadWeB riders as possible. It's official that the Wheels Through Time Museum will be closing down and relocating to Arizona. From an E-mail I received today:

Hi Brankin,

Thanks for contacting us. The museum will be open at its current location
through November 30th of this year, upon which we will be relocating to
Northern Arizona.

We will be open each day but Thanksgiving Day that weekend.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Matt Walksler, PR Director
Wheels Through Time Museum
P.O. 790 / 62 Vintage Lane
Maggie Valley, NC 28751

mattw@wheelsthroughtime.com

Since I never made it there during the JB2 ride - the JB2 ride was a MUCH higher priority - I was planning on making a trip out to take in the museum over Thanksgiving weekend. In my head I'm leaning towards Thanksgiving weekend since I never do anything that weekend. But I realize everyone with family responsibilities wouldn't be able to make that happen. So is there another weekend that would work better for those who are interested? My reason for Turkey Day weekend is that I don't really have any vacation time left for this year and didn't want the nearly 7 hours of riding from New Bern to cut into the time I could spend in the museum. If I had to take vacation time, I'd likely not be able to do it. The only thing that could be an option is if I could make it some of the way on a Friday after work, spend the night at a friendly C3 household and continue the journey the next morning. I was also trying to figure out how to incorporate an Iron Butt ride over Turkey Day weekend, but Maggie Valley isn't quite far enough away, and that too may have to wait for a better time.

1) Is there any interest in seeing this landmark of motorcycling history before they move to Arizona?
2) Are there any proposals for potential dates?

If nobody is interested I will be headed there over Thanksgiving weekend!

1313- I'm going to get out there before they close the museum. Rode by this weekend but Saturday was the HD Dealers Rally in Maggie Valley...I didn't know.

Didn't want to waste my time in lines and pissed cause some fat head was in all my photo's so just wicked it up and headed on home. They are going to have the police bike show in the museum according to the web site and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Didn't someone here have a muffler strap break?

Should have added one to my travel kit. Front one broke in Nashville, TN on me Thursday and ended up using a Lowes worm type clamp to get me home.

Know this shouldn't come as a surprise but the dealer didn't have one...a $10 part that is required by the manual every time the exhaust comes off.
BIG to Bumpus HD of Murfressboro, TN!

BIG HUGE to Smoky Mountain HD of Maryville, TN for having the part and being a SUPER COOL dealership. I now own and will wear one of their T-shirts.

That would have been Carlos. Thanks to Twig and Froggy, he now has a new Uly muffler and muffler strap.

Smokey Mountain HD/Buell is a good dealership. Brad (86129squids) that works there posts here on BadWeB.

Carlos, I've had Ray Price replace the fork oil before. It's expensive. I think it bills at 3 hours of labor or something like that.

I skipped it for the 40k service, having just had it done a month before for the 30k. I can't see how you could wear out fork oil in a month. But it's been a year now so I guess it's time.

My plan is to get the seals, and then remove the forks myself and take them to the dealership. That should make it somewhat less expensive to do.

Has anyone else had a problem finding premium octane gas? Here in Charlotte it's been almost imposable to find for the last 10 days.

All they have at the pumps here is 87 octane. Guess I'm going to have to start researching octane boosters.

That's a pretty good idea Jim. I have not replaced the fork oil. I try to stay away from the dealership service department. They are good at what they do, just expensive. It is another thing I like about Buells, they are easy to work on and you get a lot of information here on Badweb. After having the bearing replaced at the dealership, I am looking at tools required to replace them myself. I would like to do the same with the fork oil.

Happy Birthday Kristi!

Spectrum- waited for 20+ min in Nashville for gas Friday morning. There was none! I pulled into the only place with a truck pumping into the tanks. They said 20 min wait and then only 87 was available limit was $25; not an issue on the Buell. Dumped in some booster that was at the register no ping or knocks so the scientific amount I added must have been OK.

Carlos,

I think the tool needed to do the fork oil is a spring compressor. I know that Saintly made it work with a ratchet strap, so if you know what you're doing, you don't have to have a spring compressor. I don't know what I'm doing.

Jim & Carlos
I am 600 miles out of a fork oil change as well. Looking into buying the fork leg and tube holder and fork compressor tool from JIMS TOOLS. IF this isn't going to be cost prohibitive, you guys are welcome to use them. Will let you know Monday after I make the call for pricing. If it works out, they will be coming from CA so it might be a week or so before they get here.
Not sure if this service was performed at the 10K, so this time I plan to do it myself if possible.

Will drop a note Monday after I talk to them.

Brankin, you are more than welcome to stay with us in Greensboro if you make the trip. That would be somewhere around the midway point. If the weather looks decent that weekend, I'll be tempted to ride with you. Heck, you could come up on Thursday morning and call in sick/personal Friday. I'm always off the day after Thanksgiving.

Kristi, hope you had a great birthday! I should be at the campsite by the time 'yall roll through.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KRISTI!!!! What are you 21-22 now?

I got an idea. And being on par for me, it's a sick and twisted idea. Last week a colleague asked me how old I thought this incredibly HOT intern at work was. My response - "Well we could cut her in half and count the rings.".

Some people just don't get my sense of humor...

Happy B-Day Kristi!
