One thing i found out you need a least 3000 miles on a 08 Buell xb12x to even start to think about mileage i have hit 3500 miles and 47 is the norm with bags [happy trails]40-43 having fun the bike has the latest factory re flash it runs like a scalded cat 80 mph 4000 rpm just on the power curve is a doddle it reminds me of my BMW'S the more miles you put on the better it runs.

Hey gang long time no chat....

livnloud, Ive got 12,000 on my xb12stt, and i have NEVER gotten better than 40 mpg. However, I commute, 7mi. each way, and I ride like an assho;e

Even so, I have had tps reset and all that, I just assumed that it was a function of haulin ass all the time. maybe I better look into it b4 it goes out of warranty.

Hope to ride with y'all again soon, and meet the new folks

Gene

Gene its a function of not riding more the n7 miles. if this is how i rode my bike would be lucky to get 20 mpg out of my 1125r because of how much fuel it uses with cold start enrichment running.

The only real good way to find out how close to advertised hwy miles is to do a road trip where you don't stop until you need gas IMO. City commuting has too many variables.
Oh and not at 90 -100 mph either. My old XB would show a 10 mpg drop at those speeds

Hi Aron, long time no talk

Yeah, I figured the lousy mileage was because of the short ride, lack of full warmup, etc. that's why I've never really worried about it.

However, when I go out and burn a tank or 2 on a ride, i still only get up around high 30s, maybe 40. These rides usually start with some superslab, which should take care of the 3500rpm for 3 minutes thing. I start out thinking, "ill take it easy on the first tank of gas, and see how the mileage is, this time" but inevitably, i start to really power out of the corners, i just love that thrust when you slow to like 30 for a tight one, and just blast out hard at 5000 rpm.... jeez, it must be springtime, me writing bike porn lol.

Anyhow, how tough is it to poke around with the ecmspy, without a laptop? I've just been too lazy to try i guess.

sorry to hijack the thread, ill go now.

see ya soon

Gene

Don't worry about thread robbin, I like to hear how other people ride and what kind of mileage you're getting on your bikes. I am almost at 3,000 and still getting about 32-33 MPG. I went out the other week when it was nice and rode pretty hard that tank was at 26.....OUCH. I am gonna wait til it warms up on a weekend coming up and head out for a long cruise and see what I get. It should make a big difference when I get away from the stop lights and traffic that's out here on the west side now days.

I will make it out to Gators for a ride with y'all one of these weekends. Til then, ride safe.

I pretty much ran 45 - 46 through the winter months. My best was 52 MPG in the middle of the summer.

I bet as the weather warms up you will see a couple extra miles to the gallon.

I broke my foot about a month and a half ago so the riding has had to suffer for a while. (LAME)
An update on the MPG.... I have been getting around 38-40 on my last few tanks. I just put a K&N filter on it and now I am ready to put a pipe on it to make it a bit more sporty.

Does anybody have any suggestions for a pipe for a 2009 XB12XT? And then what do I need to do with the ECM after I put the pipe on?

Any help and/or input is appreciated.

Check into Drummer at www.kdfab.com. No ECM modification required for this pipe.

Thanks for the tip on the Drummer Swede, I think that is the way I am going to go. Pull the stock one off and send it in. Has anybody done this, if so what do you think of it?

On another note does anybody have any ideas for a throttle lock for this bike? I looked around but most don't fit or they cost way to much. Heading over to Hells Canyon next week, it would be nice to have cruise control for that trip.

There are some good suggestions for this actually. Do a search on the board here. Some people will use a rubber gasket between the throttle and the cable housing. Seems to work according to those that have written about it here.

I'll be at hells canyon too. Should be a good time

You guys rock. I just made a throttle lock with a 35 cent O-ring and it works great. At that price i bought two extra just in case this one breaks after a bit of use. :-)

Just curious where did you get the o-ring and what size? I was planning on doing this as well.

O-ring
Width: 3/32" ... ID: 1 1/4" ... OD: 1 7/16"

I think you could go even a bit smaller. It works well with the heated grips wire, that is what it catches on.

You can find it at any Auto Parts store.

I work for a hydraulic seals dealer/manufacturer, we have thousands of these on the shelf. they cost me probably 5 for a penny. I'll bring a couple dozen to our meeting on saturday for all to have.
