Spike - How is your brother in law doing?

Apparently he's doing just fine- he bought himself a 2002 BMW M3 (the 333hp, 6-spd, E46 monster) over the weekend. I went with him to test drive it as he still has limited mobility in his left arm. He's less dependent on pain meds to get through the day, and although he's sore from time to time (especially when sneezing) he's healing up quite well.

Webe had me scared until I realized the grease I saw on my bearings was actually antisieze from the axle. But I learned how to regrease sealed bearings anyway. : )

Brankin - Are your forks leaking?

The right one on the XT, yes! It's not that huge of a leak, but a leak none-the-less. Forks are about the only thing I've never done on a bike and since it requires a 'special tool', I'm not ready to delve into it. Plus, Shelton's is looking out for me on this and it should all be covered.

Ever have one of them weird, uneasy feeling situations? That was me today when I stopped at Buell and went into the visitors entrance. I had arranged to have my ECM reflashed with the latest, greatest by an old co-worker. I tried this at a dealership within the past month and was told there was nothing available for my bike. It was a little weird going back and it not being during Homecoming, but it all went off without a hitch. I just can't wait until I can get back to my XT-BOLT and put the ECM back in and see what difference it makes!

It's a little cooler up here than it is down there...

I've not has the pleasure of redoing the front-end on an XB. I did the M2 with some cobbled together *special* tools last year -- cost me $15.00 and a few hours.

It wasn't my first rodeo either.

I'll let you know after it's all gone. : )

That idler pulley was a B!tch to get off. It had obviously never been off the bike before. I could just barely wiggle it when I started the removal process. I wedged a razor blade behind it and wiggled a little more. Then two razor blades. Then a Blast exhaust retaining clip. Then the clip and a razor blade. Finally got enough of a gap to start using allen wrenches. Hence my motivation to antisieze it when it went back on.

And I still have one of it's rounded off nuts wedged into my 9/16 socket.

With that kind of torture, I doubt it will do it again...

Today's adventure:
Historic Auto Attractions
With this being a particularly interesting, must see attraction:
One Piece at a Time
But the most interesting to me, partly taking into account recent past ownership has got to be:
this.
As it says about the bus on the home page (first link):
'said Butch Patrick, owner of the bus and former child actor best remembered as Eddie Munster on television's "The Munsters."'

How come I can never get the theme song for the Munsters out of my head?

Jim,

It was, IIRC, $14.72 for everything. I remember being shocked at how cheap it was. I'd just rebuilt the front-end on the XX and it was nearly $100.00 just for parts.

Oh, I rounded it off with a box end wrench before I put the socket on there. : (

Kristi - you have a PM. : )

I feel a (small) bit under the weather and didn't feel like going out in search of food. After pondering what to eat, I've got your black beans and rice on the stove.

Mark came over last night and I learned a lot about brakes. Follow the link above if you're interested.

One thing I didn't know is that the caliper on the Blast is the same as the one on the Uly, just with different mounting hardware. Always nice to know I have a spare.

I saw a 1125 CR yesterday afternoon. If I would've been quicker filling up I would've attempted to chase it down, but since I saw it in East Troy it was obviously a factory bike. Plus I was late for a 'date' in Milwaukee. Ended up seeing at least a half a dozen Buell's on the streets of Milwaukee last night. I guess I will have to stick with my original statement that I see more Buell's when I'm on my Harley than I do when I'm on my Buell...

But yeah, there are a LOT of Harley's here already.

For those who want to keep score, so far:
Baggers with trailers behind them = 8
Baggers being hauled on a trailer = 1

There's one in every crowd...

So who will be in the mountains this weekend? The mountain grass is calling.

I am, of all places, at an internet cafe in Damascus, VA. Not exactly the place I would have expected to find such an establishment, but it's a cool little place.

The ride up 16 this morning was good. Looking forward to Shady Valley in a few minutes.

Good to see FB & D yesterday. Perhaps we will be getting together again on Sunday.

Nance, we looked for you and Amanda at Shady Valley today. got your message about your phone, but Amanda's cell # didn't log so we couldn't call you back.

hope you had a great day, we did, about 300 miles and three states with Kristi and Carlos. :-)

breakfast at Mabry Mill on the Blue Ridge Parkway this morning, then a group shot outside for posterity:

Great seeing all you folks this weekend. We had a good day yesterday, but were pretty tired, so we turned in early and hit the road at 8:30 this morning.

Jerry, we thought about saying bye this morning, but thought yall might be working or sleeping in. Too bad you could not hook up with Nance. Later...

Mr. Nance,
FINE job, sir, VERY FINE! How long have you owned the Uly? How long do you think it will be until you've got 100,000 on it?

Well, well, well. What's new? I'm a little late in departing East Troy, but will still plan on getting back to New Bern sometime late Tuesday. Hopefully it will not be as late as the nights have been all this week in Milwaukee, otherwise I wouldn't have any time to sleep before I have to be getting ready for work on Wednesday morning.

What a PARTY!

Jerry, sorry we missed you. It's frustrating to be in a real city and not have your cell phone work, particularly when there is another one right next to you working fine.

I'm glad you got to make it up to Shady Valley. I would pay money to see you, D, and the Road King running down 421. What did you think of it?

Thanks Brankin.

It will be 3 years old in November. At this rate, I should have 100k before 2010. The "at this rate" part assumes the bike doesn't start falling apart. It seems to be doing ok.
