SCAB ride to Joshua Tree this Sunday, May 4th

This coming sunday, the SCAB (So Cal Area Buellers) group is riding to Josha Tree for the day. Details are below. All are welcome. The group generally rides at a fairly spirited pace but we don't leave anyone behind.

Meet info: Orange County and LA folk, see Eric's (Ebear) info below.
Orange County/LA folk:
Meet at Knowlwoods (our even month meeting place) at La Palma and Imperial Hiway
at 8:00 Sunday May 4th.

Kickstands up at 8:30 and we will take the 91 freeway through Corona to Lake
Elsinore. East on 74 to Hemet and on up the mountain thru Mountain Center to the corner of the 371 and the
74.(Mountain Corner Cafe). http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=p alm+desert,+ca&ie=UTF8&ll=33.569147,-116.591463&sp n=0.004309,0.008132&t=k&z=17

there by 10:30 or so.

SD/Temecula folks:
We'll meet at Biggs San Marcos at 8:10AM, kickstands up at 8:30 AM. We'll ride to Temecula and meet at the gas Station along 79 at 9:15 AM, gas up and meet whoever there, kickstands up at 9:30AM. From there, Both groups will head over to 29 Palms. We'll stop briefly at Hutchins HD, around 12:30 or so. After a soda or whatever, we'll go into Joshua Tree. I'm following Eric from here on, I've never been to Joshua Tree.

It's a long ride, but should be very nice. Highs in Joshua tree will be in the mid 70's, mostly sunny. It'll be about 10 degrees hotter when we cross Palm Springs.

725 total miles for me to get to and participate in the SCAB ride on Sunday! On a stock seated 1125R does that at least qualify me for the Blistered Butt award?

725 on the 1125R in a day? You're a stud, Brett. By the time I got home to my house, I was DONE. And we only clocked 400 miles, and I was on a Uly.

As I got home, I was thinkin... Brett's probably just about getting to LA about now, only 150 miles more to go.

What time did you finally get home? I bet you were a bit chilled.

I got home about 8:15 p.m. and my hands and ass were sooo sore.

I ran into a swarm of bugs going over the 154 right next to Lake Cachuma at dusk that just peppered my fairing and visor in a whole 5 seconds. It looked like a Hollywood movie version of locust but on a miniature scale.

Cold - yeah, there is nothing like riding in sweat covered blue jeans and shirt under my fully lined textile pants and jacket while looking at my air temp gauge that says 48 deg. outside.

The Glendora Ridge/Mount Baldy/Glendora Mountain Road Ride...(man,that's a mouthful!) went well...had several new riders,on a variety of different brand bikes show up at Bert's. This Mega-mall
has increased it's size, like it wasn't already huge!I recommend if you've never been,go check it out!We headed up the hill, stopping at the view spot for a few minutes, then blasted over to lunch at the Baldy Lodge. After great food, good service and catching up with all our friends,we headed up the mountain for a brief stop at the top, where the Ski Lifts starts .Various Bicyclists were lifting bikes to the top for their Bonzai runs in the exquisite pine scented air.Re-tracing our steps back to the entrance of Glendora Ridge road,we slalomed our way back to the view point for a quick breather, then down the GMR to search for smoke a couple had stopped and told us about.Never seeing the smoke ,we headed for the freeway and split ways here.Slight problem with where we entered the freeway though....it seems the entrance to the 57 freeway was a couple of yards AFTER the entrance we got on and some people took off the wrong way....SORRY TOM and friends....we got off and proceeded to miss it again and had to wind our way back through Glendora and Covina to find our way. We think we saw some of you on the 10 freeway as we were headed back...(ULY)oh well...still not a bad birthday as we got back to my place and paid homage to the Corona Gods......Thanks again everybody for coming and we have to do that ride again soon!!!....(oh yeah...were was Harriet,Ozzie???)

I saw a rider on a yellow lightning wearing a grey helmet with yellow Buell logo
on the 52 west in San Diego today.

I was in the suburban that gave them a thumbs up. I would have suggested the "shocker"
but they were on my wife's side, and.....

Anyway I am in San Diego for the next few weeks and I did bring my bike along....

So, is there going to be an organized San Diego area Buell ride in the next few weeks?

If not I want to organize one so I can meet up with as many of the locals as I can while
I'm out here.

Of course I'm game to meet up with anyone that wants to whenever it works with your schedule
too. My schedule is very open, with the exception of days when I'm in pain of course.

The last ride was June 28th. It was suppose to be July 6th but due to homecoming activities it was changed to the week prior. The next official SCAB ride will be first Sunday in September. I am sure a ride can be arranged. A lot of the guys are coming back from Laguna Seca this weekend so lets see who else chimes in.

Hi Brian, I'd been trying to get a few guys together in the San Diego area with little success. Peoples schedules don't jive. I will be out of action this coming weekend but after that I'm open. How long you in town for? I'm actually close to you, I live in Tierrasanta.

DATES SET FOR 2009 MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND AT MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA

Fifth Annual Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix July 3-5, 2009

MONTEREY, Calif. (July 25, 2008) - Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca officials today announced July 3-5, 2009 are the dates for the fifth annual Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, featuring the MotoGP World Championship. The new race date will give extra incentive for American riders Nicky Hayden and Colin Edwards as they take on the worlds' best on the most patriotic weekend of the year.

"What better weekend for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix than the Fourth of July," said Gill Campbell, CEO/general manager for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. "We are planning special fan activities to celebrate and you can bet the American riders will have special leathers, helmets and bike graphics commemorating Independence Day.

The 2009 race marks the fifth consecutive visit for MotoGP teams and riders to the historic Monterey circuit and the first time the event has been staged on the July 4th weekend. The date for the event is tentative, subject to the release of the full FIM calendar in September.

Tickets for the event go on sale this November. Reserved camping and hospitality tickets go on sale November 3, while all other tickets - general admission, grandstand, paddock, parade lap and parking - go on sale November 6. Renewal forms will be sent to current customers on September 2.

Tickets and information for the remaining events in the 2008 season at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca are available by calling (800) 327-SECA or online at www.laguna-seca.com.

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca's world-class 2008 racing schedule includes the 35th Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races presented by Toyota August 15-17, the Corona AMA Superbike Finale September 27-28 and the Monterey Sports Car Championships featuring the American Le Mans Series October 17-19.

No SCAB website. Just a mailing list. I'm the keeper of the mail list. Not a whole lot of traffic on it, just ride and meeting announcements. It's a pretty low key group, with a pretty simple overall agenda:
1) Group ride on or about the first Sunday of odd months
2) Group meeting on or about the first Wednesday of Even months (Knowlwoods in Yorba Linda)
3) Laguna Seca in July and september

Other Buell related activities happen on occasion that get announced on the mail list as well. No dues or club handshake or T shirt or anything. Just a raffle for goodies at the meeting to raise funds for paying for the Laguna Seca campsites.

PM me with your contact info if you want to be added to the list.
