We're meeting Sunday at the track. He's doing the track day. I won't be able to do the track day, but I will be able to get out there to meet about the rally. If you are there, you can meet too. We have the dates as the 22, 23, 24 of August.

Apparently not of races. The races are on Sunday, though, right? You could still ride with us on Saturday.

Actually, the endurance races are on Sat. But, I was thinking of not be doing those the rest of the year, but they are a cheap way of getting some good track time.

Well, now that Luis picked up an old CBR for a track bike, Murrae is going to buy a wrecked XB12Scg, you have a track bike, etc... I'm thinking more about it.

I don't game for 8 hours EACH day. Just that one time. Ok, there may have been other times, but that was during the winter. And it was probably at night, too.

The plan is that we're going to be out of the Sagebrush again. You're on your own for reservations. The cost of the rally is really just the cost of the shirts, which is not yet determined because I haven't gotten the bill yet.

Tentative plan for Friday is to meet in Taos in mid to late afternoon and find a spot for dinner, possibly in Santa Fe. (I know, you just came through there.)

Saturday, all day rides. Route not yet set. I'm thinking it's going to be a mob rule type of event because we've all already done all the really good routes up there. That being said, I'm going to post a few links of route maps.

Saturday dinner. We have a small number of RSVP's, so we aren't planning the big banquet. It's likely that Murrae won't even be there because of his racing and shop duties that weekend. Ditto for Kim and maybe some others. I've heard from Luis, Kim Ingraham, Bill Conway, etc. Kaminen says they have about seven coming from Colorado. So, it's going to be small. So small that we figure we'll just do it at some restaurant for dinner. The one we were in last year on Friday was pretty good.

Sunday, return home with a possible short AM ride.

I'll be there with my wife (in her new convertible) and I'm also bringing my brother-in-law and his new TT. I've put out some emails, but gotten NO response.

I probably will not be able to make it down there on Friday. It would be nice to meet somewhere on Saturday. Any idea what time you plan on arriving at the dealer on Saturday? Is it safe to say there will be a morning departure on Saturday - high road south to the dealer?

Everyone: Please review the routes below and let me know your thoughts for this weekend's Buell Rally. Shirts are ordered. I suspect they'll be in the $12-15 range, but haven't gotten the total bill yet, so don't have an exact figure.

First, here are directions from Sagebrush to Ogelvie's:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=1508+Paseo+D el+Pueblo+Sur,+Taos,+NM+87571+(Sagebrush+Inn+%26+Conference+Center)&daddr=103+E+ Plaza+%23+1,+Taos,+NM+87571+(Ogelvie's+Bar+%26+Gri lle)&hl=en&geocode=4386247624983020406,36.407266,- 105.573907%3B18345859760781246117,36.369563,-105.5 96998&mra=pe&mrcr=0&sll=36.388414,-105.585452&sspn =0.047814,0.077248&ie=UTF8&ll=36.406656,-105.57297 &spn=0.005975,0.009656&t=h&z=17

Many of the other restaurants are in that neighborhood, including Doc Martin's.

Here are a few proposed Saturday routes:

This is the High Road. This is one of our more common (and favorite) routes between Taos & Santa Fe. We were on this a few years ago with Chick when the guy on the yellow S2 crashed. That time was northbound, this time would be southbound. This assumes we want to go to Santa Fe as a group.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=Taos,+NM&dad dr=NM-75+%4036.171940,+-105.688480+to:35.963558,-1 05.942535+to:Santa+Fe,+NM&hl=en&geocode=1561818342 5239323411,36.171940,-105.688480&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mr sp=2&sz=10&via=1,2&sll=36.051575,-105.82116&sspn=0 .76832,1.235962&ie=UTF8&z=10

This is the Enchanted Circle Loop (the big one). I like this one. I would recommend doing it counter-clockwise. Makes it more interesting. The up side here is, we could leave at a more reasonable time (like 0900) and still have lunch in Angel Fire, get around the north part of the loop, and be back to Sagebrush around mid to late afternoon. If someone needed to cut it short, they could cut across US64 from Angel Fire direct to Taos. We did this route a few years ago too, maybe 2004?
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=Taos,+NM&dad dr=Mora,+NM+to:Angel+Fire,+NM+to:Red+River,+NM+to: Taos,+NM&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&sll=36.340572,-105. 427551&sspn=0.765486,1.235962&ie=UTF8&ll=36.342784 ,-105.453644&spn=0.765465,1.235962&z=10

This is a route to Chama where we could do a lunch stop and return via Antonito. The last leg would be relatively flat and boring, but up until that point, it could be real fun. Of course, we did US64 last year.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=Taos,+NM&dad dr=Chama,+NM+to:Antonito,+CO+to:Taos,+NM&hl=en&geo code=&mra=ls&sll=36.771892,-106.077118&sspn=0.7612 26,1.235962&ie=UTF8&ll=36.871931,-105.77774&spn=0. 760231,1.235962&z=10

Here is a much longer ride. We come down from Taos via the Low Road (River Road) passing Embudo. Once we get into Espanola, we turn off through Santa Clara Pueblo and toward Los Alamos. Go through White Rock, near Bandelier national Park. Down to the Valles Caldera, then lunch in Jemez Springs. There are two pretty good places there. Los Ojos and the Laughing Lizard. There's also a third place that I can't remember the name of and have never eaten at, but it's supposed to be nice. Then the boring but quick part of the ride is down to US550, around to I-25, back to Santa Fe. That's about 45-60 minutes of highway, no real alternative that isn't LONG. Give us a chance to check in at the shop see the new bikes, etc. Then, return to Taos via the High Road. Google says 276 miles, which isn't bad. Unfortunately, it also says 6 hours. And Bill, Luis, and I have all gotten tickets on NM 4 in the last year. The up side is, most of the out of towners will not have ridden this route before, it take us through Santa Fe to see the shop and Murrae, etc, and it takes us back via the High Road.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=Taos,+NM&dad dr=NM-4+%4035.828980,+-106.206690+to:NM-4+%4035.78 7390,+-106.260440+to:Jemez+Springs,+NM+to:Bernalil lo,+NM+to:Rodeo+Rd+%4035.638400,+-106.011740+to:Lo pez+Ln+%4035.646610,+-106.021290+to:35.66148,-106. 033516+to:NM-503+%4035.945430,+-105.952928+to:NM-7 6+%4036.075059,+-105.797200+to:Taos,+NM&hl=en&geoc ode=2327763920124546771,35.828980,-106.206690%3B17 128376653798490413,35.787390,-106.260440%3B1798286 1696232369318,35.638400,-106.011740%3B735426342120 3676359,35.646610,-106.021290%3B112415082394704463 86,35.945430,-105.952928%3B17366346083025442519,36 .075059,-105.797200&mra=dpe&mrcr=3&mrsp=7&sz=12&vi a=1,2,6,7,8,9&sll=35.63972,-105.934982&sspn=0.1930 8,0.30899&ie=UTF8&z=12

This option should also be different, for you guys. Leave Taos, via the High Road, to Santa Fe. Could stop at the shop now or drive on. Go down NM14 through Madrid to Cedar Crest area. (Optional ride up the crest road.) Drive on a few more miles to Ponderosa Restaurant in Tijeras. NM337 right through there is a nice road (but sorta crowded). Lunch as Ponderosa. Return via same route. (Again, optional Sandia Crest run which takes 20 mins up and 20 mins down.) Again, optional stop at SFHD/B on return instead of outbound leg. Google says 142 miles each way, or 284 round trip without crest runs.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=Taos,+NM&dad dr=NM-75+%4036.190880,+-105.670490+to:CR-98%2FJuan +Medina+Rd+%4035.954200,+-105.938350+to:Rodeo+Rd+% 4035.638400,+-106.011740+to:Cedar+Crest,+NM+to:106 76+State+Highway+337,+Tijeras,+NM&hl=en&geocode=77 61874213187756281,36.190880,-105.670490%3B79083707 23969970004,35.954200,-105.938350%3B17982861696232 369318,35.638400,-106.011740&mra=ls&via=1,2&sll=34 .876918,-106.100464&sspn=1.559222,2.471924&ie=UTF8 &ll=35.688533,-105.979614&spn=1.543674,2.471924&z= 9

And lastly, there is this route which is roughly last year's ride. It's a loop which I recall us doing clockwise last year, but we could always go counter-clockwise and lunch in Chama.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=Taos,+NM&dad dr=Chama,+NM+to:Abiquiu,+NM+to:El+Rito,+NM+to:Tres +Piedras,+NM+to:Taos,+NM&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&sll =36.579971,-105.992661&sspn=0.190782,0.30899&ie=UT F8&ll=36.467681,-106.152649&spn=0.764235,1.235962& z=10

I haven't "planned" this event, so it's really more of a mob rule situation. We can ride whatever people want to ride. Since it looks like we'll have about 12-15 bikes total, it should be a pretty reasonable day. It really becomes a question of how much saddle time can people handle, what have they seen before or not, what are they interested in, etc. I'm open to all commentary.

Let me know your thoughts.

I'll be getting in Friday evening at the Sagebrush and ready to meet everyone, for the first time, Saturday morning. My Blast is usually capable of making 100 miles between fill ups so I hope that won't slow anyone down. I just ordered an air cushion to sit on so hopefully I can ride a full tank without needing to stop to stretch and walk.

As to choice of routes, I've not been on any roads other than the main highway between Taos and Santa Fe, and that was in a diesel truck. I'd love to visit SFHDB, but don't have to.

my two cents...
If you intend to go to the dealer you should go HIGH ROAD south.

If you just want to start the ride from Taos then my absolute favorite is the big ENCHANTED CIRCLE LOOP. I was just on this a couple of weeks ago and I recommend clockwise. This way you are on he inside through the mountains between Mora and Sipapu. However, either direction is ok with me. The road is in good shape and the narrow road through coyote state park and alpaca land has been resurfaced. Depending on direction there's food in Red River, Angel Fire, and Sipapu. Fuel in Angel Fire and Mora.

My advice is to stay away from Jemez Springs...traffic jam town and the road through the caldera is heavily patrolled. If you want to go down to Los Alamos take the mountain road up and the bandelier road back - basically go to Los Alamos and turn back.

The road to Chama - not one of my favorites. A bit of a drone up 285/84 and parts of 64 (except for the stretch from TA-TP). Also, the upper layer of asphalt through the sweepers in the mtn pass is broken up.

Last years ride from SF to Chama is ok but we could do the ENCHANTED LOOP in both directions and have more fun IMHO.

The rt14 is always good especially if you include the crest but the road seems busier than ever these days. South 14 is a funeral procession most of the time during the day.

I sure would like to know which route you choose so that I can find you on Saturday (JUST IN CASE). I will try and make it up on Fri but unlikely...

I will try and get there extremely early on Saturday.

Jody, don't sweat it. My XB9R only goes about 120 before I need to fill up. We definitely stop more frequently than that. There should be no problems getting cramped up because we stop a lot. It seems that these rallies are as much to socialize as they are to ride.

Look forward to meeting you.

Given the feedback so far, I'm going to push for Enchanted Circle. Given that it's not a terribly long ride, I'm going to call for a riders meeting in front of Sagebrush at 0900. By then, it will have warmed up a bit and everyone will have been able to get breakfast. This will also allow time for you and Luis to ride up. I don't know if others are simply riding up in the morning, too, but suspect Conway will do that since he's done it the last few times.

I liked your idea of riding the loop in both directions, so we can see how people are feeling. I'll almost certainly be up for it.

We still need to find a place for dinner on Saturday where we can fit everyone in. I really have no idea on total numbers, but I'm ballparking it at a 12-15 tops. I figure we'll eat at Oglevie's tonight. I'm going up today via Jemez Springs and then the High Road.

I have event shirts. Unfortunately, my initial estimate was not as close as I would have liked. Because I bought a smaller number and at close to the last minute, they were more per unit than I would have liked. I'm going to have to charge $20 each to recoup the costs.

Hope to see you all up there.

Just wanted to thank you guys for a great time this past weekend. I still haven't wiped the grin off of my face! Someone needs to invest in a helmet cam to get more pictures of everyone, there wasn't time to stand and take pictures. I posted a few over on the CBR page but I hope some of you got some shots to savor, too.

The ride was fun. We did not do the overall mileage of previous years but we were on more twisties, longer. Always a good thing with a Buell.

I hope all the NM and CO riders enjoyed the ride. I definitely had a good time.

CJ, are you ready to upload some photos or are you waiting to fill your memory card? ; )

BTW: My dental issue got even worse... On Monday, I spent about four hours in a dentists chair to the tune of drilling and grinding. Long story but root canals can be fun...
