Eryc, ill let you know, just depends on a couple jobs coming up in the next week or so. I really want to go, but work might not allow it. Are you going to buelltoberfest?

I saw a blue cyclone on 17s today, later body work. Anyone know them?

Josnow, I will not actually be going through the upstate to get there. I will be going through Augusta and then Athens. If you want to meet us there you are more than welcome to.

The final verdict is leave on Wed July 30th and return on Sat or Sun.

Thanks for the heads up alert to your ride Xblaw. Oh how i would like to get to ride in the mountain twisties before september but I am headed to Myrtle Beach for this weekend and got too many plans for next weekend. Maybe next time though.

Man we also need to take a weekend and get together this year like the SCBR group has before and like there was talk of doing earlier this summer. Oh well maybe sometime, but there is always buelltoberfest!!!!

Meanwhile I will just keep watching the board for upcoming events.

I also got the pleasure of riding in the heaviest downpour yesterday when I left work. That was very exciting. I got soaked but at least the storm cooled things down about 25 degrees yesterday afternoon. I couldnt see 50 feet in front of me. Hopefully it wont be that bad today cause I am still drying out from yesterdays WONDERFUL ride home!!

This morning I examined the rear tire on the Lightning. It has about 5 little tears in it and one deep enough I can see the cords if I lift it up real hard. So it looks like it is time for new tire. Looks like Cycle Gear has the Pilot Power 2 CT the cheapest, but I am not sure if I want them to mount and balance it.

Any recommendations? Hugh, did you ever get the tire mounting stuff figured out and set up? I was off the site when most of that discussion was going on. Or is there anyone local that does a good job for a reasonable price?

Xblaw,
Don't know if there prices have changed, but it used to be $20 if you bring in the wheel. Doesn't get any cheaper than that. It's been a while since I checked (last year)

I am just not sure if I want the young nubies at Cycle Gear breaking and setting the bead on my painted wheels. Every time I go in there, there is someone different behind the counter.

Eryc- I bought a Harbor Freight tire changer and changed my own, but at this point I can't guarantee not scratching wheels.

The stock wheel clamps don't do a very good job of holding XB wheels for one thing. Most people also upgrade to a $100 No-mar tool too. The "tire" end of the bar appears to be solid nylon to prevent wheel scratching. Much better than 2 layers of duct tape.

I know what your saying, but they sell a lot of tires and somebody has to be changing them. All the bikes now have good wheels and if they were scarring them up nobody would be buying the tires.Just a thought, I could be wrong.
I doubt that the guys at the counter are the ones changing tires. If so, I might start agreeing with you.

The place I went to in Athens will mount and balance I wheel and tire for $30. Dirt cheap and did a great job. They were actually a chopper type shop. You just ride in on the bike and pick it back up from them. I may give a call since I will be traveling through that area.

But I would rather get it taken care of here so I know it is done.

Darren,

I hear ya about that storm yesterday, it was 3:30 pm I was at work, staring at my computer screen too busy working to be worrying about the outside. The engineer next to me happened to notice it was getting rather dark outside so he pulled up the weather radar map and said " hey nick you better get out of here, theres a big storm coming this way" I did the mearkat and picked my head up above the cubicle wall and notice that it looked very dark outside and noticed the Doppler radar on the computer screen with the giant red spot headed right for me.

So I grabbed my things and headed out the door, the wind was blowing like hell and only got a little damp before I got home. I was swerving the whole way home to avoid tree limb debris.

Check this out. Harley just bought MV Agusta. Can you imagine what Erik Buell may come up with if you put him with MV's design team. They make some sick lookin' bikes. Mix that with Buell's attention to the rider, and it could be one mad, nasty machine.

No doubt. That xr1200 is hot. I'll take one of those and a side order of badness. I would swap the exhaust out though for the 2 into 1 Supertrapp can.

Maybe I'm missing something but what is the difference between the "R" and the "CR" besides the front fairing? They look the same to me.

Charlie, cosmetically that's pretty much it. The CR does have a lower final drive ratio.

Heading out at sunrise to have breakfast in Aiken. Going to meet with a friend and a guy making a documentary film on the most famous bike trip in American literature.

Speaking of bike trips, I see "Long Way Down," Ewan's and Charlie's sequel to "Long Way Round," is playing at the Azalea Theater in Summerville on July 31st at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $10. Might be interesting, if you're into Adventure riding.

Matt, I'll check to see if the tickets are any cheaper at the theater as opposed to ordering them online. Maybe Hugh will come so we'll have a critical mass of three Buells parked together at one point in the space-time continuum.

Got back this afternoon after a great trip of about 250 miles. The weather was almost perfect with low humidity. A little fog this morning made me glad I had the little squeegy sewn to the left thumb of my glove. Went up on 78 but came back on 19 (which allowed me to sample Carolina BBQ in New Ellington) 278, 781, 78 then 61 back to 17-A. The traffic was so light I downshifted to 4th, throttled down to 60 mph (probably more like 56 with my new speedo error) flipped open the visor and just did the slow cruise thing. From the time I got on 61 outside of Bamberg, no one ever came up from behind until I hit 17-A outside S'ville. Only bummer was averaging 41.9 mpg.

on that trip I usually average about 55, its a bummer your getting such low mpg. 61 is the most boring highway in this state, nothing but a couple of stop signs in the middle of no where. at least its better than 78 where you stop at town after town.

Yeah, I'm starting to wonder if gas is somehow evaporating out of the tank if the bike is parked awhile. My wife is always complaining that the garage smells like gas when I park the bike inside.

Matt- Same price as internet - $10. I'm down.

Hugh- have you recovered from your post-mountain-riding depression yet? You think you're up to see how effortless it is to Adventure Ride when you have a camera crew and chase truck?

Anyone else in the S'ville area?
