Hugh,
Did you happen to see the show on speed tv"Trippen on two wheels".Dennis Gage(the car guy with the big mustache) his son and another rider do a trip thru Canada, all on Buells(Uly.)hour show, a lot of good shots of the bikes on and off road. Best show I've seen on Buells.

Charlie- Yea, I caught most of it. They seemed to give the Ulys pretty high marks. I agree with their comments about the Uly front wheel in soft sand too!

It'd be neat to tour Canada like that; I'm hoping to do some long range touring like that in the next few years.

Hey, my own mini-Buell fest starts in two days. We're headed up to Blue Ridge, GA (~20 miles west of TWO) for family vacation. Twisties here I come!

You know, this almost needs to be a week-long event: 1 day to get there, 1 day to recover from the ride/drive, 3 days to ride twisties, 1 day to get back, and 1 day to recover from that! Sure wish I lived closer to the mountains.

I was thinking of leaving for Gillette, WY, tomorrow,(still a member of the BMWMOA), but some last minute family things crept up. I was looking forward to being the only Buell Ulysses there and demo'ing the new F-800GS. Ah well, next year the rally will be in the mountains of East TN.

I was up near Clayton, GA this weekend doing some trout fishing and I found some awesome roads up there, with no traffic and really no home on it. It is near Warwoman WMA. I think I may go back up there on the bike one day. It was twistier than anything near Suches. It had one mile where there was 30+ turns.

No, not since I got my Uly, but my riding buddy's cousin was a salesman there and he wanted an '08 Ulysses. The owner wouldn't order any '08s until the '06s and '07s sold. So my buddy's cousin went up the road to the dealer in Rocky Mount and got an '08 Uly. When he showed up with it at work, he ended up no longer employed there. He sold the Uly a month later to Tippymcswagger and bought a Bandit 1200.

Xblaw- there are lots of good roads in that general area. I made a loop a couple of years ago from Suches to Clayton, then Warwoman Road over to highway 28, up to Highlands and back to Clayton and then Suches via different roads. Highway 28 north of Walhalla, SC up to Highlands, NC is a great road.

Yes, I've been to Ray Price. They have a decent selection of Buell clothing and at least a couple of Buell enthusiasts who work there.

I'm pretty much open most of the time as a semi-retiree. Looks like Hugh might have to ride his S3 for awhile.

Got the Uly fixed! But now the S3 is ready to ride too; maybe I'll have to get it out more often. It's still for sale if anybody knows of someone in the market.

Eryc- Asking $3500 as is or $3000 without the Drummer exhaust, race ECM, and Ventura rack/bags. JUST installed new genuine HD jell type battery ($129!).

Here's the listing I posted in the classifieds last year:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/21/ 293695.html?1184888732

No doubt many potential buyers are put off by the "salvage" title. Bike was wrecked by the original owner and totaled; , I bought it from an auto wholesaler in Alabama. Took <$200 worth of new parts to fix it. Unfortunately, despite the fact the bike is repaired, in SC it'll always have a salvage title. I'm told you can clear the title in NC once the bike has been inspected by the state.

Let me know if you need more info.

Welcome Tq freak. There is some great riding in the area you just moved. Would love to go riding up there with you, but I am stuck in Charleston like most of the people on SCBR.

The Lowcountry is one of the most boring places to ride, but we have the largest number of Buell riders on this site. Makes no sense.

Matt, looking forward to coming back up. I've been staying with my family in a cabin near Blue Ridge, GA (about 33 miles north-west of Suches) since last Thursday, so I've been enjoying riding for the past few days.

I found some "new" (to me) roads in the area. 52/2 north of Ellijay (about 10 miles from here) is pretty cool. I did an off-road loop up through the "Cohutta Wilderness" Saturday afternoon:

http://www.blueridgemountains.com/driving_tours/Co hutta%20Driving%20Tour%202.pdf

Well, there were "roads" but it was the gnarliest gravel I've ever been on. Imagine the Dragon except poorly graded with 6" deep gravel on it. I probably did ~25 miles of gravel. The bike did great, but both me and the bike got a good workout. I was really ready for some nice, smooth pavement but the time I got to the other end of the forest service roads. Francis Marion's roads are like freshly paved interstate compared to these.

I rode over to TWO yesterday hoping to meet a buddy from Atlanta but he had to cancel at the last minute. Highway 60 from Morganton to the top of the mountain a few miles south-east is freshly paved, but from there to Dahlonega is awful! They've recently sealed all the cracks in the road and the tar snakes are like oiled teflon. Holy crap are they slick. I probably couldn't go over 20 MPH through the curves. I only hit that section once- HOPEFULLY it is due for re-paving soon. 180 is great as ever- I'll be headed back over for some more runs today hopefully.

Every time I come up here I ask myself- "Why do I live where it's flat, the roads are all straight, and traffic sucks?"

Hugh,

Sounds like a great vacation. If you have the time, treat the Mrs. to lunch at the lodge at Amicalola State Park on Hwy. 52 southeast of Elijay. It's only about 30 miles or so from Blue Ridge. If you've never been, the lodge is built on top of a mountain and offers great views while you eat. The food is very reasonable
and their dress code is flexible enough to accommodate thru-hikers coming off the AT.
Last May, the ranger at the front gate didn't charge me the $3 entry fee to the
park since I was on a bike. If you go also check out the interesting (and free) AT museum.

I am headed up to the Suches area next week for a couple of days. Not sure exactly when yet. Kind of a last minute thing, celebrating finishing Summer finals. If anyone is interested let me know. Or if you are in the upstate and want to meet there let me know. So far it is just me and my buddy that rides a GSXR 600.

So... I was talking to a guy at work, rides a trike, and come to find out, a new law in SC came into effect about motorcycles that I didn't know about. A special license is required for Trike riders as of about a few weeks ago. Before you only needed a regular drivers license to operate a trike in the state of SC, most other states require just a motorcycle license, but now in SC you have to be separately certified for a trike.

what A_holes that run this state. This is just another way to get revenue. Really, in my opinion how different is riding a trike than operating a car? other than the fact that trikes are more likely to tip over?

Otherwise this wouldn't have bothered me but our next vehicle purchase (for the wife) was either going to be an Escape Hybrid or a Can-am spyder roadster. This is just another reason to stick with the Hybrid choice because of two reasons, the spyder only gets about 35 mpg, for a 700 lb trike I would like a little more, and now this, ugh.

Just my rant, whats your thoughts on the new trike requirement.
