I wasn't at Sprague and Pearl on the 3rd; however, I was out earlier that day during that massive downpour.

Hope you guys had a great ride this weekend. I might be in for this Sunday...

Gene and all the other NOBbers, Dave and I had a fantastic ride Saturday. Perfect weather and very little traffic to contend with. The roads were fast and twisty and as scenic as south eastern Ohio can get. We have to do this ride again and try to get others involved. Dave knows how and where to to ride!! Thanks Dave!! Only one problem that day.... I broke my shift linkage when I over cooked a turn on a hill, ran off into the grass and lowsided. Of course the expected cosmetic damage is there but could have ridden it home if not for the shifter. That sucks. But all in all a very good day! Dave, let you know when I get my parts in and am ready for another run, ok?

Mytripb, could you be more specific about what went wrong at the 1,000 mile check-up on your boyfriends Ulysses.

I bought my XT there recently and would appreciate any info.

If you don't feel comfortable getting specific in a public forum, a pm would be fine.

Thanks,
Dave

Mytripb, I'll go ahead and answer for Ron(I don't think he'll mind)as to where we rode over the weekend.

As he mentioned, the weather was perfect and most of the roads had very little traffic.

This is one of the big advantages we have in this part of Ohio. We have motorcycling roads comparable to any in the country, but because the area has a comparatively small population, there is generally not much traffic or enforcement, unlike more popular riding destinations in the Carolina's and elsewhere.

On this specific ride, we didn't even go below(south) of I-70.

From the Montrose area we took main roads till we got south of Wooster. Things started to get interesting below Nashville where we took 520 through Glenmont to Killbuck.

We then took Rt.60, one of my favorite roads, through Warsaw, to Rt. 541. We stopped in Coshocton at Tim Horton's for a quick break. (I'm addicted to their Iced Caps) We stayed on 541 east to Kimbolton where we headed north to 258.

Next we kept on 258 to 342 which we took to Freeport. We got on 800 north to 799 which is a nice scenic backroad that bisects Clendening Lake. 799 took us to 250 where we headed west to 646 north.(Note: 646 has been freshly paved, not chip & sealed, yea!)

646 took us through Scio and to New Rumley, where we made another stop at a park dedicated to George Armstrong Custer, who was born in New Rumley.

We kept going east on 646 to Rt.9. Took Rt. 9 north to 164 west. 164 is another excellent road, but is tricky in spots if you're not familiar with it. It's on 164 where our great riding day abruptly came to an end.

The "great" news is Ron was not hurt at all and the other good news is the damage to his bike, as he previously mentioned, appears to be minor.

So, Ron, yes please let me know when your bike's up and running and we'll schedule another run.

And, as Ron stated, it would be nice to meet some more NOBs next time as well.

Dave

Dave - that sounds awesome (minus the spill, glad Ron's ok!)

Have you ever been south on 83 past Millersburg? I've heard that's a pretty good route.

I'm working the next few Saturdays, but I'm good to go on Sundays. Glad to hear that we have decent roads around here.

Sorry to hear about the getoff, but glad that you're alright.

Wednesday night during the torrential rains I ALMOST hit a dear and slowed down. Peter Cottontail ran underneath me, he didn't make it .

I'm a little bit away from the equipment to mount and balance tires. So if you guys put the mileage that I do, I can save you some money if you wanna drive to Elyria for cheap, cheap tire changes.

I managed to buy a balancer and I'm trying to find a good option for holding the wheel while I use the tire irons.

Lauren - I have been on 83 south of Millersburg. It is a good road, but being a fairly major state route, usually has a lot of traffic.

My preferred route when heading south of Millersburg is to continue on 60 to Dresden(a nice town for a break) and from there take 208 to 93 in Adamsville. I then head north on 93 till it connects with 83.

Heading south on 83, I continue to 313. Taking 313 west to 284 south I keep going until I again hook up with 83(very close to route 78).

At route 78 you can make a quick right and within a quarter of a mile, or so, on your right is an intersting stop at "the Bucket".

After a quick stop at "the Bucket" you can make a choice: continuing west on 78 to McConnelsville is unremarkable, but west of McConnelsville becomes a very good, and sporting, road. East on 78 becomes very good, very quickly, and stays that way all the way to I-77.

I hope this helps,
Dave

I'll elaborate on the reason for some of my route choices.

I like to ride Rts. 313 & 284 south of I-70 instead of 83, not because 83 is busy at this point, it's not, but because the surface is chip & seal in poor condition.

Just a note: these probably wouldn't be the roads you'd choose if you needed to "make good time". If you wanted to "have a good time", however, you might want to give them a try.

A couple of links about "the Bucket":

Hey guys,
I've been on the Badweb for years but haven't made many posts. I ride a 2000 yellow M2 and live in North Royalton. A road that you must check out is West River Rd in Columbia Station. I has many twisties and is very smooth. It is by far my favorite local road.

I ride it EVERY day on the way from Strongsville to my part time job in LaGrange. There's the cement place where the road is pretty dirty and rocky, but other than that, smooth sailing!

Whenever I'm done fixing a bike I usually test ride it out that way, W. River, 82, and then back on 252 to Sprague.

All these Buellers local and I have never been able to catch any of you for a ride?!?!

Ok, looks like I'm gonna have to plan a garage party and then a ride afterward. Or maybe a ride first then the party so the beer isn't so much a problem! But we gotta wait till my bike is back together and ridable. Anybody interested??

An 1125R? That's a helluva beginner's bike.

Martial arts? Where do you instruct?

Dent, that's my commute! I take the TP from Elyria to 42 and take that to Sprague. To my second job, I take Sprague to 42, go west on 82 to 252 down to Grafton Rd and take that to 83 to 303 to LaGrange... If you see a fat guy on an orange Buell, wave!

Thumper i actually have 2 schools 1 on Emery and 1 at A&A trap and skeet. I teach TKD and tactical/ self defense shooting.

Hell yea I'll ride w/ you .... I wanna ride and i can take off pretty much any time. Fridays great or anytime really.

I have been riding almost 32 years now I mostly owned Harleys but this is the first shit and git bike.So I have a lot of riding experience just not a lot of sport bike experience. I just registered for a class with Fasttrax 11 August. I'm also reading like a mad man to understand the dynamics and basics of sport bikes all the FUN that goes with it.

APL Funraiser at Lake Erie Harley Davidson/Buell

From some of the posts I received when I talked about the Boxer puppy rescue, I’m assuming we have a lot of animal lovers here on BadWeb. I’m not a fan of helping those who won’t help themselves. I also don’t like that we interfere in other Nation’s affairs. I’m a firm believer in being relaxed and accepting things I cannot change. Many of the motorcycle riders I have met since I got into this hobby share the same outlook. I believe on doing what I can, for who I can. Some of those ‘people’ are abandoned animals and the Animal Protection League is of that mentality too. In the past couple of months, I have personally saved three kittens and kept two. My parents have the third. We have also saved Sloan from certain death at the hands of a breeder. I do what I can volunteering for the APL, but it isn’t nearly enough. My family saves all recyclables and donates to the APL. Whenever they have a rummage sale, my family donates a lot of non-essential house hold items and I come home to discover some of my stuff missing! Hell, after Katrina, my dad went to New Orleans and helped rescue animals.

Right now, I’m doing a fund raiser for the APL through a poker run at Lake Erie Harley Davidson/Buell on July 27 and I’m bugging you guys for additional support. I’ve raised $200 in two days for the charity and would like to raise as much as possible. I’m hoping that my fellow BadWebbers would like to contribute as even the smallest amount will help.

For donations, I can accept Paypal, but I would prefer a check or Money Order made out to the Animal Protection League so we all know where it’s going. The added benefit is that with the check you have proof that you donated to a charity and it should be tax deductible. Those that may question this can check with the many BadWebbers that I’ve met.

Thanks for reading.

Being new to sport bikes I have been studying and reading and researching schools and the like.
That said I am going with a couple buddies to check out West River Road Saturday. The twists and turns are fun as hell. The point of my post is this and it may be lame!

Have you ever got on 480 east at 98th street by the new giant eagle? That on ramp is fun as hell!! Laugh if you want ..... I had to get that out!

I saw a few Buells out and about today. Around 1pm, I saw a new 1125R heading east on rt2 in Amherst. Rider had no helmet, but wore a shorts/tshirt. Anyone here?

I saw a red Lightning in Westlake on Crocker Rd around 5:00 or so heading towards Rt 2.

I saw an 1125R parked at Buffalo Wild Wings in Elyria at Midway Mall next to Best Buy.
