Not a big fan of the red. Black is good, but that blue just POPS.
It hit me when I first walked in the door.
"WOW Is that the XT?"
It stood out like a beacon of naughty pleasure in a sea of leather and chrome.

Sounds like your mpg isn't as bad as some, and after the re-flash and break-in, you should be good.

It is called Thrust Blue. But the red is Anheiser Busch Red. How's the reach from seat to ground?

Only sat on it for a minute, but if I had to guess, I'd say about 1/2" better than the 650. In my case, not great, but do-able.

Tank, the XT is considerably more weight than the DR though. Just wait'll you have the bags all loaded with camping goodness!

jackie, I got in @75 miles of FS roads yesterday, keeping the bike upright the whole time. Pops thinks he'll be here Wed night so we might just be on! Now I hear there's a $47 dollar permit to ride, what say ye? NUTS

I say probably not. Woke up to mom raging against the kids and Cindy. Says this sh#t of watching them for hours while we are gone is gonna stop. She can't get it through her hard head that Arielle is old enough to watch Kali without an adult hawking over her.
This is getting ridiculous over here man !!!!

Thanks Nuts,
But I will not part with the SL. Even if it's the last bike in the stable. It's that good to me.

I know the XT is Heavy. About 100lbs heavier than the DR dry. That aint so much. Getting used to the big DR has been an eye opening, and skill learning experience for me.

But, like you, Nuts,

It itches, and I have not been scratching.

I'll wait for the new models. If an 1125-S shows up, I'm getting one.
If not, XT.

The man has a plan.

I got 43 mpg on the last tankful. Huckleberry carried me 144 miles before the light came on and I gave it 3.6 gallons of premium at 156 miles. Not horrific but I need a range of 200 miles. I secured first-right-of-refusal on a mint Aprilia Caponord yesterday. For $5k It's a hard opportunity to pass up. I just hope the seller decides to sell closer to X-mas. NUTS

Nuts,
Cindy and I are gonna spend Wednesday spending some time together per the Drs' orders. I think we might spend a pleasant afternoon getting things right again and healing.
Thanks for the sound advice and being like a brother. Wish I would have listened a few weeks ago.

Hello, Bueller's ... noob here. Bought my '00 Blast on 6/19 with just 2800 miles on it. Using my time with a learner's permit to practice off the main roads. Also waiting for the next round of Va Western's MRS courses, which I hope to take in the first few weeks of August (registration opens next week).

Only prob I've run into is the [apparently common] rocker cover leak. I'm sure it still has the factory paper gasket, but it doesn't help that the prior owner overfilled the oil. May also need to replace the carb boot, based on the reading I've done on here - hard to keep it running until it gets warmed up.

Immediate plans include rerouting the vent line out of the intake, replacing the brake/turn lights with an LED setup to eliminate those rear stalks, and maybe do some custom carving on the plastic plate bracket.

That's about all so far. Looking forward to talking to & meeting fellow Roanoke riders!

Brian, might I suggest setting a riding goal for yourself. Something like 500 miles before you attempt to customize the Blast! If there is a mechanical issue that needs to be addressed, then get that fixed; otherwise, I'd stash the $$ for mods onto a gas card. There's plenty to learn and miles on the bike is the only way to do it.

On a lighter note, I have a pair of pants that you are welcome to. Only catch is that the zipper on the right leg is broken. An alteration shop should be able to fix it relatively cheaply. The pants are size "Large Tall" if you're interested just post here and we'll see when I can get 'em over to ya. Should you have any Blast! specific questions we'll introduce you to C3, they're our Buell siblings to the south. Jinance (Jim) is a good fellow who owns a Blast! and a Ulysses. Webethumpin has the same combo. Those are both big guys and they love the Blast!

Alright too much caffeine for NUTS, going for a ride.

Jackie, Pop's won't be in til late tonight wanna play?

Tank, Whatabout the BMW? Gettin the XT? Wanna sell Frankenbolt?

Charlie, If the new guy starts lettin fly with sidestand jokes I'm coming down there for a word or two!

Welcome Brian!

Nuts list:
BMW...haven't looked at it, word is the dude doesn't have out by the road anymore. I have his phone # tho.

XT...not until the new models come out, but even if they drop 1125S on us, I might still be all about the XT. Time will tell.

FrankenBolt...It's got to go before I get another bike, along with the DR250. $3k on the bolt, $1k on the 250.

Thanks, guys. Looking forward to getting some nice rides in this summmer. That is, once I get my Blast to START again. Help ....

We're talking about a stock 2000 Blast with 2850 miles on it. Also, I'm keeping it in the warehouse at my work for now since I have better areas for practicing there than around home.

So, it sat without being started for about a week cuz I came down with a nasty bug. Anyway, tried to start it yesterday, and it cranked strong but only gave an occasional sputter. I thought I may have run it dry of gas because I noticed it coughing a bit just before I shut it down the last time I rode it (had to switch to reserve tank about 5 minutes before putting her up for the night, planned to take it to the gas station next time I rode). So, I go back to the office today with a gas can and put just under 2 gallons in it. Turned it over countless times, but it doesn't even give a good pop. I don't know if it's a fuel supply issue or lack of spark - or something else I didn't consider? I checked spark plug connections and everything looked good - no corrosion, etc. I removed the air box cover and don't smell a strong presence of fuel like I'd expect from a flooded engine, so I'm wondering if I have a plugged fuel line? Shouldn't be the fuel filter at 2850 miles, should it?

Brian,
Get a can of starting fluid at Advance and give it a shot with air cleaner off.If it starts, you got a fuel problem,if it doesn't,most likely electrical.

Check the vacuum line from the tank to carburator( I honestly don't know if it has a carb or FI)and the coil wire connection. I'd also search the Blast board here on Badweb. NUTS

Charlie: There's a safety that prevents the starter from working when the clutch is out. I guess I'll need to band the clutch closed while doing this so I have a hand free for the starter fluid? Or can I give it a good spray, then try to start? I have some carb cleaner - will that suffice?

Nuts: It's a carb. Maybe I'll try turning the fuel petcock to OFF, disconnect the fuel line there, and see if I can blow air through the fuel line going to the intake.

Brian,
I don't think blowing air into lines is a good idea, you might create another problem.
Carb. cleaner will work, I just like starting fluid.(works better) Just put a zip tie on the clutch or wrap a bungee cord around it.
You could disc the fuel line, not the vac. line that goes to the intake, spin the motor and see if the petcock is releasing any fuel from the line that goes to the carb.
Try the spray first,if it won't fire, fuel isn't the problem.........Charlie

I'm thinking fuel supply is the problem. Neighbor had some starter fluid, and it cranks up great until the starter fluid is spent. Turned the fuel petcock to OFF and disconnected the fuel line, and around 1 - 1.5 ounces of fuel came out of the line. Slowly turned the petcock on, and fuel does come out of the tank, so there may be an issue somewhere between the fuel line and the carb's jet. I didn't go so far as to remove that fuel line from the carb as it started to rain and I had to pack it up. In the next day or so I plan to get some extra fuel line, and an in-line fuel filter to put between the tank and carb (Buell didn't put one in to begin with???). Just hoping I don't have to pull the carb as I'm inexperienced in carb disassembly and I know carb calibration can be touchy.

Brian,
It has to be fuel, don't know which carb. the Blast uses. But there should either be a large bolt head on the bottom of the bowl to drain it or a slotted screw on the side of the bowl which drains it thru a hose. Open one or the other, turn on the gas and see if it flows thru and out the drain. If it doesn't, take the back end of a screw driver and whack the side of the carb. a couple of times, if it still doesn't flow, take the carb.apart.

Local HD service dept said he'd check the spark plug first since a slightly fouled plug will still burn starter fluid, but may not ignite pump gas. I'm inclined to agree with you, though, Charlie.

Nonetheless, I'll probably go ahead & upgrade to an iridium plug anyway.

Easy on the local Buell tech Charlie. I've got to take Huckleberry over this morning for a clutch cable and ecm re-flash. I don't need any bad mojo.

Brian, I'll check today to see if the Blast! has a vacuum petcock or gravity fed. Either way it sounds like a fuel issue and probably a clog in the line/ bowl. NUTS
