A ride in September is a must. Webe and I ride to Jacksonville quite often, so let us know when you are stateside.

As for dirt, take a look at our adventure in VA a couple of weeks back in our C-3 adventure folder. I took off down dirt roads in the mountains and didn't think I was going to find my way out. I want to explore the Croatan too and I'm sure Webe would be game. Be safe and thanks again.

Well, after much deliberation, we decided a couple of months ago to start surfing the Old English Sheepdog Rescue Missions for another pooch. Well, what we've found is a little guy named Moose. He's 18 months old, only about 45-50 lbs. (obviously he didn't grow into his name) and is also deaf.

My friend Pat and I hope to travel down to Atlanta Saturday and come home with Mini Moose (renamed by the Rescue Director) on Sunday.

He has his own blog with his foster Dad.

http://deafmoose.blogspot.com

We're very excited and hope he travels well.

Thought I'd pass this along- the same group that some of us rode with on New Years is doing a ride on the 4th. We'll be meeting at Calvary Chapel at 1600 Center St. in Apex:

quote:

Tentative route -- Apex to Asheboro via Liberty and Old Liberty Road. Ashboro to Sanford to Apex via 22/24 and 42. Ride should take about 3 hours plus stops. We can grab lunch when we get back to Apex area for those interested. Please respond once again if you going to go so we know who to wait for at the church. Please arrive at 9:00 or before so we can leave no later than 9:15.

The overall pace will probably be pretty mellow, but some guys will probably break away when we hit twisty sections. Give me a call or post here if you want to join us.

Got back yesterday evening from a trip to upstate NY and lower MA, visiting Pat's sister and husband. Had a great time. Real pretty country up that way. We flew into Newark, and rented a car. Crossing the George Washington bridge at 5pm was lots of fun. Saturday we saw Garrison Keillor do the "Prairie Home Companion" live at Tanglewood. Saw a cute broadway play Sunday. Monday, we drove south into Newburgh and visited the new OCC shop to check out the choppers. We saw almost all of the bikes that have been aired on the tv series. We went back to the shop Tuesday morning to get some more pics, and saw the guys in person. They really are some big dudes. Onward to Tarrytown, where we visited the Lyndhurst castle on the Hudson River. It was a real shame they would not let us go into the tower. It was still a treat to finally see it. Very nice trip, but it's good to be home again. Later...

hey yall its me again , hey look one of my buddys here is pretty interested in buying a buell xb12xt and it wondering about the life span of the belt drive in a very dry climate , as he lives in nevada, ie: how dry crack prone are the drive belts and what is the expected life of the belts, i told him i had heard lots of good stuff about the belts , but i have zero miles on mine and no real life expirence with the belts , any advice you guys can hook us up with will be greatly appericiated, ulyman

Jacob, I'm sure the Uly owners will speak up, but I've been really pleased with the '06 belt and the larger pulleys myself. U4euh and Rubberdown gave me some help with the installation on my 03 xb9s after the stocker broke and put me on the side of the road. Tell your buddy he should have nothing to worry about. Although, I do carry a ebay spare belt in my tailbag, with a few tools. But, thats MY paranoia!

Hope we can meet in the fall. Our nephew has done two tours in Iraq, and finally got back to Pearl Harbor about three weeks ago. He was staying with my wife's brother in Honolulu for a week or so. We have no idea where he is at now, but will be seeing and greeting him in Greensboro, NC on the 19th of this month for his grandfather's 90th birthday party.
Thanks for your service, and we all wish you a happy Fourth!!!

thnx twig, and spare tools are never paranoia , anything can and usually will happen, the difference between being prepared and as you mentioned above being "put on the side of the road" is only the end result of not being prepared, if i had a quater for every time i had a problem and no tools or a "spare" to make on the spot repairs i would be a very rich man , which unfortunitly am not, but if having a part or tool that you know is a weak point you only make your chances of getting back to the starting point that much greater . i hope that i can convince spc.yeh to purchase a new buell and any advice or information i can give him might influence him to make a worth while investment, again thanx and happy 4th every 1 !

U-man - I have 64,000+ miles on Buell belts. I stripped teeth out of the M2's belt at the drag strip with 32,000 miles. The belt teeth had cracks and I now know that means change it. The bike made it home under its own power if a bit herky jerky. That was a Gates belt. The Uly is on its original belt at 32,000 miles and the M2 is now at 46,000 miles with the Goodyear '06 belt.

To compare this with a chain. A motorcycle chain is good for 20,000 miles according to Honda. I had to change out the chain and both sprockets on my CB750 at 21,000 miles because it stretched after a hard launch and was popping equally as bad as the M2 with the stripped belt teeth. The cost to replace the chain and sprockets was about the same as the M2 belt.

The big issue is that belts tend to fail more than chains. That is why Twig carries a spare because the '03 Gates belts tended to do that. '06 Goodyear belts seem to be much better but some have had failures. Now chains can fail too. Though not as often per capita, when a chain fails it breaks stuff and causes a lot more damage to the bike.

I hope this helps. Happy 4th to you and your buddies over there. Thank you for everything you guys are doing over there and how well you all are representing the good ole USA. Can't wait to meet you and get a chance to go ride.

Thought I would throw this out there for my C-3 buddies:

July 26th
CBA of the Pines is having our 1st annual BBQ/poker run.
10$ rider/5$ passenger
50/50, door prizes, best hand, 2nd best hand, and worst hand will win $$$$$$.
Ride will end about 2:30
BBQ starts at 5:30 $5 a plate
The BBQ get down is only 6 miles from my house, so I thought also about putting on a BonFire. Anythoughts on coming or anything else to do.
I am the RoadCaptain Coordinator, I will be in charge of the captains and the route, and safety of our riders, so YES this will be a gentle paced ride. They are all mostly Harley, with the exception to the VP, he rides an S3! But if you come and spend the night, the next morning could be different!!!
Those of you who are new members to C-3 are encouraged to come on out and meet some of the local riding that is here in central NC. I have floor space, plenty of room for a tent, and a few air mattresses.

Rubberdown-be careful this weekend!

thanx m2 , i will let spc.yeh read your last post , im sure he is still pretty sold on a buell but its just the small details that hes courious about , as he has never owned a bike im trying to steer him towards a reliable and competent ride, as far as the ulys fun factor, i dont know about yall but i plan on doing a lot of time in the dirt and maybe even a lil time on a motocross track! im sure it would do fine as long as no big air was a factor any way i dont really forsee my friend offroading for a while , hence the reason i recommendede the xb12xt not the xb12x mainly becouse he could probably use the enhanced on road suspension opposed to the more agressive long travel the 12x has, ok this is getting kinda long, so till later, jacob

Jim, that's a definite possibility for me and Pat. I know she would enjoy it! Our romas and other tomatoes will be in full swing by then. You gonna make us some of that famous salsa? If I don't get scheduled for work that Saturday, we will try to make it down.

Ulyman - I changed my belt at 22k miles just for piece of mind before a trip. I'm about to make another trip, with 43k on the bike, and I'm going to change it again. Again, just for piece of mind. The belt is supposed to last a long time. Buell lists no replacement interval, they just say inspect it every 5k miles and replace if it's worn. Before the 06 belts, they called for them to be replaced periodically. In 06 they improved the belt for the Uly, and thats when they dropped the replacement interval.

maybe even a lil time on a motocross track! im sure it would do fine as long as no big air was a factor

My neighbor has a pretty good size practice jump in his yard. I hav e been meaning to stop in and see what the Uly will do. I have caught some decent air on it but I need some better landings with the Heavy fork oil I got!

Carlos, Kristi, and kids! Great to see you guys last night!! Thanks for the toys! Hayden and I are going out to try the slide after the coffee is finished!!`
