DAve...Does any of the above affect your plan to go to Ar with us this weekend...I just got off the phone with John and it's about 99 per cent that he will NOT be able to get off early Friday...So we're almost certainly looking at a 2000 depart from Lonedell MO, Wagners Store, intersection of MO Hwy 30 and County Road N...

See Ya!

Just did a sniff test on the dyno for the S2T with the new Mikuni...right in the middle, not lean, a tad rich, could be 1/2 jet richer if I was a heavy throttle type rider...

Just runs better than the CV, a whole lot better.

Shouldn't that question be moved to the "X-rated" section?

Whoa! Things look different here!

Ok, Guys, long time, no contact. Sorry for being a poop! Oh, this is Jenn (Ninja Girl).

I haven't had a whole lot of time for anything much outside of work, so my bike has gone just this side of completely neglected this season!

I am ashamed of my slacker behavior, and deserve to be severely punished. Please form a neat and orderly line--no pushing (John).

I just went out to get on my bike, and after fighting for seat position with the dust that thought it had taken up permanent residence there, I was appalled to discover she won't run!

I mean, she will start, but never idles smoothly enough for me to shut down the choke, and even then, she is having power surges as though fuel is only being fed in spurts.

Could it be just spoiled fuel? Fouled plugs? She's temperamental and pissed for being parked during so much great weather?

Anyways, can I get some friendly advice from those of you more experienced and dedicated? (After I receive any beatdowns that I have coming, of course.)

Thanks!
Jenn

Hey Jenn, the boys are screamin' around in Arkansas...in the mean time, change the oil for sure, it's gone acidic maybe but that won't really affect the starting.

Fresh high octane should bring it to life with a smooth idle once warmed up.

New plugs won't hurt anything and they might help.

For now, once you get the beast to life, give it a good runnin' around and see if that doesn't help a bit.

Welcome back, be safe always.

Hey, thanks, Kevin!

I will perform the recommended maintenance. I guess I should drain the remaining fuel too, huh?

I only hope that I can find a manual online somewhere (I didn’t get one when I bought Her).

I appreciate it,
Jenn

Jenn:

Fuel is much less subject to deterioration these days. Ride the remaining fuel out, or better yet, get it to like half-full, fill it up and repeat.

Oil too, is much less prone to the maladies of time, but an MORE oil changes is always better and safe insurance.

More importantly, do a thorough pre-flight by rattling and shaking peices, making certain brakes are hooked up to the places brakes should be, there is nothing in the way of the main gonkulator, etc....your eyes are your best friends. The fuel/oil thing pales in comparison to entering a sharp curve with 18# of air in the front.

Court:

Thanks for the invaluable “pre-flight” suggestions (clear prop!).

You remind me that I failed to mention in my original message that during the power surges, just as she was about to choke out, I did hear a nasty knocking.

Does that information spark any further diagnosis?

Also, the thing about the manual: I was unable to find one online (a cursory search at best), and I feel a bit nervous about doing any maintenance without proper published material. I always seem to aggravate the situation rather than assuage it.

(Like when I was nineteen and I decided to replace the thermostat in my 1965 Buick Skylark: “Hey, this other thingy is in my way, well, I’ll just move it!” It turned out to be the distributor—DOH! Which I yanked without marking first, and then stuffed back with total disregard to the positional orientation required to provide operational timing!! Needless to say, my Pop had to make a five-hour drive with his timing light and a good lecture on “look before you yank”! Thank God for Daddies!)

Thanks again, Guys!

P/S

I got the "look before you yank" lecture from Mom too, but it had nothing to do with distributors!

(Hee-hee, I couldn't pass that up!)

Jen,
I alwasy change plugs and go through the normal maintenance early each year. I would suggest starting there, then go try to blow the cobwebs out. May just be a bit of varnishing or crap hanging up in the carb. If that doesn't work, you might have to tear the carb apart and clean it. I had an old ex500 and ran into the same sort of problems. The idle jet in the carb was filthy. Hope some of this helps

Keith

p.s. where you been hiding Paulie?? You got him handcuffed in the basement or something??

Jenn,
Drain all the old fuel out. Is your bike carb or injected? If carbed, you may also have to drain the carbs. Fill with nice clean fresh fuel.
Now about how you got into this situation to begin with. YOU SHOULD RIDE YOUR BIKE AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK! You deserve all you get. You have been a bad girl. As it turns out, we were talking about you and Paul the other day while in Arkansas. As all women do, you have led him astray and punishment is in order for sure. Keep your ball gag close. You will need it when we meet next.

dont know carbs

Aaaahhhh….I guess I should have known this subject would come up.

John, to address you directly: Paul was not the only one “led astray”, and now that we are just friends, and each have our own homes, I just want to get my bike back on the road and recover (both the bike and me).

And that’s all I have to say about that.

Thanks for all the advice, I plan on getting cracking on it in the next week and will let you all know how She turns out!
