Hey All...Saturday, September 27th, is Wisconsin HD's 9th Annual Pledge Ride for Breast Cancer Research.

I have attended it since I returned to Wisconsin and rode it last year for the first time. It is a fun day with the proceeds going to a very good cause.

The ride is a scenic tour of Southeastern Wisconsin, is extremely well organized, open to all brands and is very enjoyable.

Plus the post ride party at the Olympia Resort in Oconomowoc is great. It includes: food, entertainment, auctions, silent auctions and a chance to meet some new and old friends.

If you are interested in getting together for the ride, let me know. Otherwise, just show up and blend right in with the crowd. You won't be disappointed.

Bomber...Am taking it in later today. Will be early arrival for Wednesday appointment. Will let you know once the autopsy is performed. Am praying it isn't anything more than the oil pump drive gear.

Thanks again for cluing me in on replacing the oil pump at the same time as the drive gear. Only difference in the cost was the price of the pump. Preferring to replace things before failure occurs, this "ounce of prevention" will be worth much more than a "pound of cure."

Don't know if you got the news, but I picked up (read: Stole) a Wide Glide from a friend that is an engineer at Harley. Is an Anniversary edition with only 2,441 miles on it and I am loving the hell out of it.

My last HD was a 1980 Wide Glide and it was a real love/hate relationship. Swore I would never buy another HD product.

Well, the Buell got my juices flowing again and Erik made me a believer at the 20th Banquet. So I made the plunge. Guess the saying "Never say Never" is more valid than I thought.

Am keeping the X1 just to keep up with y'all in the twisties even though the WG corners very well. Now if HD/Buell would make a Dual Purpose bike (along the lines of an old scrambler) with the XB9 engine, I would simply have to add it to my collection!

Anyone going to Suburban on Saturday?
Anyone want to help carry a 200+/-Lb big steel box down one flight of stairs just up the street from there? The hardest part is the corner at the top and bottom of the stairway, 3 steps to make 90° at the top and again at the bottom.
Just asking.
(Maybe I'll just remove the rails at the top and bottom and slide it down.)

Appreciate it. We'll figure out what and when on Saturday. I'll be there on Friday clearing a pathway.

Hey All...Just got the X1 back from Hal's and am compelled to report that it was another wonderful experience.

Most of you know me and have an idea about how critical I can get (read: Biggest Understatement of the Year). Well, I also give praise where it is due and I cannot say enough about how impressed I am (again) with Hal's service department.

Not only did they come in under the estimate, but the bike was done a day early, only the parts that needed replacing were done and the tech took the time to talk to me about the bike and things to look for.

FYI, the tech is the former line manager at Buell and knows these bikes inside and out. Even if he doesn't do the work on your bike, he oversees the others to insure you get the job done right the first time.

Whoops, forgot to mention the Service Writer was fantastic as well. Same for the cashier, etc. Not an attitude anywhere in the place.

Now that is what I call SERVICE!!!

So, what was the net result of parts needing or not needing attention? How bad were the bad parts.

Mike...Must have the last X1 made with the old style primary chain tensioner and replaced it just in the nick of time. It was shot at 9,048 miles and was ready to either toss or lock up the chain.

After a lengthy Q&A session, I agreed with the Tech and passed on the oil pump and drive gear for now. He did not try to mislead me in any way. He simply provided me with information concerning factory upgrades that were in effect when my engine was made and a detailed check list of things to monitor.

Bottom line is I am a happy camper and much more knowledgeable about the subjects.

I guess I need to take another peek at my own chain tensioners. Have a spare one in a box someplace but was planning on waiting until all the moving was done before popping off the primary cover(s). That reminds me, I have to get a couple of new cover gaskets and o-rings.
Thanks for the info, always good to learn or confirm stuff.

Be careful, it's real easy with a new bike to just keep riding right on past the office and head to nearby distant roads to ride all day instead. Also be careful at lunch because just like it's easy to think you're doing 45mph and look down to find you're doing 80, in the same way sometimes a 30 minute quick ride at lunch all of a sudden becomes a 60 minutes jaunt.

CJ...Pay no attention to Mike. Just feign an illness or whatever and go for a long ride! Winter is just to close to not take advantage of the good weather.

No I'm not doing it, cause if I drop my brand new bike, it will NOT be good !! But I believe Blastin may have some competition !! :)

Battletrax usually start around 9:00 a.m. or so. Depends on when the course is finished being laid out.

It's about damn time I got some competition!!(Hell I'll even loan you the Extremely Fast and Nimble Sunfire Yellow Blast with Flames if you want to take some laps. -since your worried about dropping your new bike that was meant to be ridden on these types of courses :)) At least TEAM CJMBLAST isn't going to be there with their much more experienced rider as a last minute entry.Hehehehe

We'll see all of you lovely ladies tomorrow!!

Jerry

I think Chris is doing the right thing by not even considering competing. New bike & if she dropped it she would be so pissed at herself.

Blastin...Just don't pull a "Spidey" and dump it while tying to impress (and staring at) the Pretty Ladies. LMAO

Dyna...Your truck though it was a Buell. LMAO The only other stains on my driveway came from my Buell, but at least I caused and fixed that.

Ok, now gunk your engine and you can park on my driveway again. Oh yeah, You got a really stiff brush I can borrow? Still can't remove all that stuff.

CJ...Should start at 9:00 AM. Am meeting Dave at Suburban at 7:00 AM to help set up. Hope he doesn't need much help. You know how anal I can get. LOL

Blastin, I might take you up on the offer to ride that super yellow Blast !! LOL

Team Cjmblast, that's funny !! No he's not lurking in the background waiting to strike again !!

Dyna your right, I would be soooo pissed at myself if I dropped my new bike, but mostly I'd just be one big baby about it !! LOL

Thanks for the start time and info guys, and Blastin again 1000 brownie points to you for the compliment to us girls !!

I was hoping to suprise the group with a late entry into the final BattleTrax of the season. But once again, my job is keeping me away. I had to switch my days off because of schedule conflicts.

I hope everyone has a safe and exciting day. Looks like the next time I'll get to ride with the group will be the spring Slimey Crud :(

Later....
