Sportymark-

YUCK FOU! Seriously, I wish I could be there. It should be like the old days - especially if they have a separate area for the 4 (or more) wheeled vehicles to camp. I sure wish I could be there. I guess I will just have to take solace in the fact that I will be here when the Smokeout is going on. Plus, taking into consideration, the fact that I will be here the following weekend and I'm starting to feel better about all of it now. Oh yeah, and then the next week I will be at the Buell 25th anniversary Homecoming and I'm feeling much better about it. But I still wish I could make the Smokeout, too! You and Glenn better take a bunch of pictures at the Smokeout for me! After all is said and done - I'll show you mine if you show me yours - pictures that is, just where are your minds?

Saturday it's auf Wiedersehen for me!

I missed that Mark. I thought about stopping by on Friday and continuing on to Suches Saturday, but camping is already sold out. It looks like it will be a hoot, maybe next year.

Change in plans. Webe and I will be heading out next Saturday instead of Friday. He could not get away so we are going Saturday to Monday.

After Carlos had a front wheel bearing go south, I decided to replace mine. I've now got a new tire and 2 new Koyo bearings. They gave me the originals, which are smooth as silk. I guess they didn't need to be replaced, but with 42,000 miles on the bike, I figured it wasn't a bad thing to do anyway.

Two days in a row leaving work I've spotted a yellow '99 S1 on my way home. It really is a nice bike, and sounds damn fine! Either he's new in town, or saving gas $. Any way, I know his route and schedule. Might ride my bike to work one day next week and head him off at the pass!

Today was the Winterville Police Department's Annual Car Show to benefit the Special Olympics. Along with working the car show, I won a $200 gas grill! Came home to have a beer and pool time with Carlos and the kids. After dinner, I twisted Carlos' arm to take the Uly out and we got in a short ride before dark and the thunderstorm heading our way! It's been a good day!

Hey everybody!

Defector Director here with the '13' one sitting along side in his jammies and he has something he wants to say:

PLUCK OFF YOU HOSERS! I'm in God's country now and feeling fine. The XT is covered in murdered Mid-West bugs and I've had a night's sleep. Dave's as ugly as ever and he won't shut up about Neons!

Sometime today, I'm heading for Wisconsin, so Happy Fathers Day to the dads out there and AUF WIEDERSEHEN!

P.S. I have photos of my new GPS system! Works great even if I had to tie it on with shoe strings bought at a truck stop!

OK, so Brankin and I were thinking..............SHUT UP, I know what you're saying..................

Moto GP is Sept 12 thru 14, and Brankin's coming up, so who else is up for it?

He's planning on leaving Friday afternoon and getting as far as he can, flea bag it, then finish the run to Indiana.

Do Saturday at IMS, then Saturday night at Indianapolis Speedrome watching outlaw figure 8 races, then back to IMS on Sunday for the Moto GP. After that, home to N.C. on Monday.

Here's the schedule:http://www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com/schedule/

I'm trying to clear some time for the Indy MotoGP event myself. We've got some family that lives in Speedway so we'll be in close to the track.

Latest project- steering head bearing replacement:

Getting them out wasn't bad. I rented a blind bearing puller (I love free tool rentals) from auto zone and was able to get the old bearings out without much fuss. The harder part was getting the lower triple clamp off. The shaft was seized to the inside of the steering head bearings. I haven't yet decided how I'm going to put the new ones in. I might try just tapping them in place with the right size socket. If that doesn't go I'll be heading to home depot for some threaded rod to assemble a "special" tool.

Well seems that plans are changing for the weekend. Instead of Suches I am thinking about Fancy Gap. I am planning on making a three day weekend out of it. I probably have some chores up at the creek Friday, then will be ready to ride by Saturday.

So, anyone up for ride up in mountains this weekend?

Burl, I remember when you got your bike. September is right around the corner!

Carlos, a ride suggestion for Saturday if i may?

you might remember the following words, posted on the "Big Jim's Ride" thread after i got home on Monday's ride with JB2, Bhuff, Ed & Cindy:

after we all disconnected yesterday i had a fair amount of ground to cover to get back to the 'Dome, and Hwy 460 worked out pretty well in that regard.

so much so, in fact, that i had enough time later to explore a local road i'd not yet ridden, and this road, i can say without danger of over-exuberance, ranks as one of the top five or ten roads i've ever drug a hard part on.

i'm reluctant to publicly divulge the name or number of this road, it's that sweet. i'll have to ponder on how best to put out The Word.

well, one of my Father's Day goodies from my son Wade this past Sunday was Motorcycle Journeys Through the Appalachians by Dale Coyner.

and you can imagine how i giggled when i read his comments about the very road i referenced in my words above:

"Maybe I shouldn't publish this route. Despite the fact that VA ** is one of the great motorcycling roads in the whole of the Appalachians, it remains relatively unknown...Selfishly I'd like to keep it to myself, but it's just too good not to share...There are few roads I can honestly compare to western North Carolina's array of great riding roads, but this is one of them...VA ** takes ** Mountain straight on like a fiesty bantam-weight boxer, ducking, bobbing and weaving, landing a great left hook here, a roundhouse right-hander there, and a series of left-right combinations that leave you punch-drunk with delight. Twenty-five sweet miles pass before you run out of the good stuff."
(copyright 1995, 2004 Dale Coyner/Whitehorse Press, Center Conway, New Hampshire, www.whitehorsepress.com)

like i said, just a suggestion... :-)

Even more fun than free rental tools- "special" tools than can be assembled from stuff at the home depot:

My DIY steering head bearing tool: One foot of 5/8 threaded rod, two 5/8 nuts, four cut washers, and the outer races from my old bearings to serve as drivers. It's not perfect as it has no provision for keeping the bearings perfectly lined up, but it'll certainly get the job done. Not bad for $4.07.

Ulyssesman - Thanks and stay safe. There are some good roads around Jacksonville. Webe and I ride down there all the time. It's just 45 minutes away. September is just around the corner and can't wait to meet you. The C3 logo was designed in Iraq by a Marine on duty. So we are quite proud of it.

Ferris - Sound like fun. I am riding up on Friday. I have some chores to get done on Friday but will be ready to ride Saturday. Webe can not get away Friday but will be riding up on Saturday. I do not know where this lovely road is but I can guess of one. On Sunday Webe and I were talking about riding up to the Natural Bridge in Virginia. It looks like a great 60 mile ride up the parkway just north of Roanoke. Late Sunday Webe and I will ride home.

Carlos, a friend of mine and i rode up to Lexington, VA last Sunday, doing recon for an upcoming ride, which took us right past Natural Bridge.

we didn't stop to check it out, but i've done some online research on NB and it sounds very cool.

it's lovely country up that way, to be sure, and getting there or back via the Parkway is, of course, sublime.

ping me here or offline as Saturday draws closer and we can better ink some riding plans. i'm open for anything, so if you and/or Webe have any preferences besides the "mystery" road (hint: we could make a loop out of it which would take in Burkes Garden...), i'm all for it. :-)
