Matt- You shouldn't have to actually spread the frame. This page has a good method for changing the rear isolators and you can use it for replacing your swingarm:

http://www.americanthunderbike.org/techtips/isolat or.php

The part of the article you're interested in is about the bottom 1/3. I used this method to replace the rear isolators on my S3 and it works pretty well.

We lost a Chucktown Bueller today. He went over to the dark side. He sold his Buell and got am R1 in its stead. Good news is he sold it locally. So at least it is still in the area.

My hat's off to anybody riding ATGATT in traffic today! 100+ HX.

Anybody see the motorcycle wreck photo on page 1B in the Chas. P & C
this morning? How fast do you think he was going when he hit the car?

I was ATGATT in traffic today. Had a Joe Rocket mesh jacket and pants on over office clothes, full face helmet, boots, and gloves. Oh yea, I had a bright yellow vest on over that which is unfortunately not mesh. Nice ride this morning except I had to stop and get gas so I managed to start sweating there. Coming home I was OK until I hit the traffic on University Boulevard near the county park. Asphalt, bumper-to-bumper cages, and sun make for some serious heat. I was pretty cooked by the time I got home at ~6.

T-shirt and jeans with helmet, gloves and boots is
the minimum for me for around town
driving in 90+ temps. Supposed to be even
hotter the next couple of days.

Matt, from the photo the damage didn't look
that bad - a fender bender if two cars were
involved. Too bad the rider's helmet was
strapped to his bike. Probably took it off when
he got caught in the gridlock caused by the earlier
propane truck wreck.

i usually dont think atgatt is that bad in the summer, but i work outside everyday, so my brain has been fried by the sun.

I don't mind the gear at all as long as the bike is moving. It's when you get stuck for long periods with the heat radiating off the pavement that gets me. Of course riding naked wouldn't be any help when it's like that.

You know, somebody actually marketed an air conditioned helmet for a while (one of the Italian helmet manufacturer's IIRC); I saw one on ebay a few years back. It used one of those 12V powered solid state cooling panels (the same kind they use in powered coolers for automobiles) and I think a fan to blow air through. I don't know how well they worked but they didn't make them for long. On days like yesterday, I have to think there'd be a market for such a thing.

As I get older, I guess I'm turning into a real fair weather biker, as I tend to avoid the bike in summer when there's any chance of getting caught in gridlock, like rush hour. I'll lane-split or do a U-turn in a heart beat and ride extra miles just to avoid sitting. Of course, riding an air/oil/fan-cooled bike may increase the temps for the rider. Are liquid cooled bikes any cooler when creeping along on a hot summer day?

Jim- I know what you mean. After yesterday, I wimped out today and drove the truck to work. The morning rides are pretty nice, but the 90+ temps take all the fun out of the ride home.

My water cooled Kawasaki faired bike is plenty hot when in traffic. After all hot is hot.

Slow stop and go for miles on a hot day can not be good on a bike that's air/oil/fan cooled, even with synthetic. I was always afraid my airhead Beemers would seize up in those conditions, which justified me in taking "emergency" action.

At least the Buell will give you an indication if it's overheating; you'll get a flashing check engine light and the engine will go into "skip spark" mode to attempt to cool down.

My water-cooled Honda Ascot seems a little better in traffic; the heat doesn't get radiated directly to the seat, but it still throws off plenty of heat once you're stopped and the fan is running.

Electric scooters are coming. No heat issues. Will be okay for commutes on hot days, but suck for long joy rides.

I ride my bike for fun. If its not fun, I don't ride. When it's too hot, its not fun.

During the demo rides over Memorial Day weekend at Myrtle Beach, I had a chance to meet the Product Plant Manager of Powertrain Operations in Wisconsin. I told him about the difficulties I think we have all had in trying to get any Buell memorabilia in this area. Just yesterday, I received a package from his office with two new Buell T-shirts and a letter saying thanks for the continued support and loyalty.

Its very nice to be appreciated even when the local dealers around here dont really seem to care.

I wish Buell had more merch. I really want a pegasus license plate for the front of my truck. Anyone seen one before?

I was in Columbia last weekend, and stopped in at the ThunderTower. I spoke to the Clothing Sales Manager and she told me that she would be ordering a bunch of new Buell T-shrits and would call me when she got them in. So hopefully it will be fairly soon and I will let yall know when she calls.
