$104.00 to scratch my $750.00 wheels. Worst case obviously, but for about ~$700 we could do a group buy of this...

We could just do a group buy, or make it a club thing and do fundraising for it. I think it's be a very nice thing to have, and free changes to club members (Parts and Labor Not included LOL)

I think it would be a cool idea. we would also need a wheel balancer.

I saw that too, another $95.

I don't have a trailer hitch, so I'd lean to the floor mount. FYI, I have tools and materials to drill anchors into everyones garage floors, the'd be flush mount, so when the bolts are out the floor is flat... Or we could do the trailer hitch and those that want it could use it...

Tough call.

Cycle Gear is $30 per tire - bring in wheel & tire, or $20 per, if you buy the tire from them. I've used them several times with excellent results.

So, $60 per set max., done locally for most of us (using Portland, Salem, and new Springfield locations).

At one set per season:
$60 x 8 PBR members x 1 tire changes = $enough for ROI within 2 years.
For me that's $60 x 3 bikes x 1 tire change per year, or about 5 years to payback.

Hmm, might be worth considering, though it's a close call when I'm buying half of my tire habit from Cycle Gear already.

Buy in would only be 2 tire changes per PBR member.

Boy, this really sounds like a good idea. I get free tires+changes for the next 2 1/2 years at latus tho.

I'd still be willing to chip in at least partially.

I also owe part of my dues. I guess I should come to a meeting one of these days huh?

Well, so much for my free tires....

Last service/2 new tires resulted in 7 new scratches/chips/gouges in both wheels, ala borrowedbike.
I noticed them immediately when I picked up the bike, 'cause I was looking for damage, after reading this thread before.
We took pics, and submitted them to my service writer.
The initial response was "we'll order some touch up paint".
That's not good enough.
I've gotten in touch with Paul about this, and we thought that perhaps we should pay a visit, as a group, to try to light a fire under Latus a little.
I am going to be at Latus on Sat. the 18th, around noon, to talk to them about what they will do to make this better.

So the question is, does anyone want to join me in solidarity? all of us have these vulnerable, powdercoated wheels. maybe we could get them to buy US the no-mar changer. Or at least get one in their shop, with some techs trained to use it.

Whatcha think guys? I have 2 more years of tires prepaid at Latus. Even if they take them off and repaint the whole wheels, they are gonna look like hamburger after 2 more years of this.

I'll firm up the time a bit later this week. Bike will be dropped off for 10k service (10,000 mi. in 11 months!) on Thursday night, and is supposed to be done by Sat. noon.
I have a wedding to attend in the evening, so i think noon or 1 should be it.
We may shift the time to accommodate whomever wants to come, and depending on who we need to speak to in particular.
I was going to meet the manager of svc. dept, but maybe Tony or even George should be the one, as Paul suggested.

I don't want to have a big hissy fit about this, but I don't understand why this is happening to us. I mean, all the Harleys have shiny pretty polished wheels, and picky owners. I'd think that a ham-fisted service tech wouldn't last too long at Latus.
Unless they are shuffled off into a dark corner to work on "those crotch rockets"

So now they want to send out my wheels for repainting. no gift cards or anything. I'll be without a bike while the wheels are painted, and I have no other vehicle. I still have 2 more years of prepaid tires from Latus

On a related subject, when they gave me my bike back from the 10k service, the pinch bolts on the front axle were loose. all the way loose. This I didn't notice until one of them hit me in the leg while riding down the road.

They came and picked it up on tuesday from my work, to fix it. now it has a bad bearing or something, so they gave me a sportster as a loaner for a couple days, till the bearing is fixed.

Sheesh.

Sounds like the service guys needs to go through more training. That is really scary and why I do all my own services.

I had the dealership do one service for me once and I was so disappointed that I bough the service manual and went back and re did the service my self to ensure it was done correctly.

The loaner bike ran out of gas, apparently it doesn't have a reserve setting, as it died, then I switched to reserve, (marked in writing on the petcock, so I didn't mix it up) and it wouldn't re-start.
Latus picked it up and delivered my bike, to my wife, since I was at work.

The next day, Friday, I got a call from James Martin, the new? shop foreman. He was very apologetic, and offered me brand new wheels. I expressed my concern about being 1 year into a 3 year prepaid service contract, asked him to look into the no-mar changer, and asked him to take the new wheels, put some new tires on them, and set them on a shelf for me, for when I wear out these tires.
He assured me that they would be doing specific re-training on tire changing and other service issues. He mentioned that they have a young staff in the shop.

I wonder if there is some way that Buell can send someone for a special training session or something.
Maybe Aron could train them!

Ill be up there at noon today (Saturday)
