Some quick pictures from VIR yesterday. AWESOME!!!
Preparing for the event:
!!??!!! Damn Mouse! This is my daily rider and this little bastard found time to build quite a nest in my airbox, as well as have babies (2 dead babies in there). Just changed the air cleaner 3 months ago.
Ready to get on the track!
Rookies following the leader. As you can see beautiful day and beautiful track. It was just short enough to have it easily memorized and really start working through each turns details in a single day.
Going as fast as I can to keep up with the dang 1125Rs and Jap bikes. Spent the majority of the day following people since in the Novice class we could only pass in the long straight, at which point everyone would pull away from me. I could typically pick off one or two braking into turn 1.
Following my track instructor. He was great to ride with and also frustrated by the lack of passing. He's in yellow vest and I'm behind him.
Had to try out the 1125r. It was so fast that my photographer (sister) couldn't follow it.  Actually, I never really got to open it up because the demo leader was crawling along. I did easily power wheely it a few times coming on to the long straight, only to have to back it down quick to stay behind the leader.
Got some good tire usage out of the brand new Corsa3s. Great tires! I slid the rear a few times coming out of the last turn onto the long straight, but overall these were amazing tires.
The last session, I was able to follow a female instructor. She said had three things against her, in her own words; female, old, and fat... although not really fat, but working towards it. But she was a very smooth rider and I learned a lot following behind her watching her shift around so smoothly on the bike. The last couple sessions were great as some of us began taking a few liberties on the passing rules and were really able to ride the entire track at our pace.
I was quite impressed with my ol' xb12s. I was as fast or faster than anyone in my class in the turns, and got upwards of 135 in the straight... plenty fast for me for now. I LOVE THIS BIKE!
Great day. I will have to do it again. Will try Intermediate at the next event, although will probably be the one holding people up in that class.
I only saw Spectrum from Badweb. I was feeling ill all day Sunday and recovering still at the track, so between sessions I just rested in the pits. Wish I could have browsed around more to meet some of you all.

around how much was it for the wheel bearings installed? Mine are definatly making some noise. |

Dealer cost for two bearings and installation (wheel removed from bike already) was just under $100. |

Seeinstars - At least the Ulys have problems loosing rear wheel bearings. Some of us have tried to fix that by using non-OEM bearings.
The front wheel uses size 6005 and the rear 6006. I've got Koyo 6006-2RSC3 bearings in my rear wheel. I got mine at Applied Industrial Technologies up in North Raleigh, but being in the automotive business, I'm sure you've got better sources.
Ray Price pressed them in for me, along with mounting a tire. |

I don't even no that is is the bearings. but when slowing down with the engine at idle I can hear the front wheel winding down like a bearing noise. I can't hear anything from the back because the exhaust is so loud. there is no free play on the front or rear though. |

I did some more stopping with the engine off, and its not the bearings, just a little bit of noise from the front brake. |

Our C3 patches are in! For those of you who ordered patches, they were mailed out today. Twig & Oldog, I'll have yours with me this weekend.
If anyone is interested in a patch or three, check the Patch Order thread for those who pre-ordered.
BTW - they look great! I've sent one to Erik, Court, Blake and Southern_marine (he designed the logo while deployed). |

I replaced the throttle/idle/clutch cables on the Firebolt today:
I had noticed that the throttle cable was a bit frayed when I ordered the cables, but I didn't realize it was this bad. It was down to the last strand:

Well my number came up this weekend. I had a dramatic high side in stage 3 of the dirty tarmac Tennessee Rallymoto. I lost over 15 minutes trying to get myself and the bike sorted out but I managed to get back in the stage before the control car came through so I was able to keep competing but I knew I had no chance of making up the lost time and it would put me in last place. I ran the next stage not really knowing what shape the bike was in and it was a really fast stage on a tight winding paved one lane road so I was a little nervous and out of sorts. Then we had a service stage where I was able to go over the bike and assure myself it was raceable. It was and I finished the 14 stage race and was competitive but never able to make up the lost time so I finished last but happy to be able to finish. The last stage was in the dark and I got smacked by the chest by something like an owl or a hawk at about 80 mph. It shocked the hell out of me and I'm sure it did him no good by I kept going. We finished racing and got back to the service area about 9:00p.m.. What a day.
Bill Conger who live in Charlotte and is a lead teacher at the BMW center won the overall on his Husky 510 sm!! He was rocking! We had a great time. Next up is Rally West Virgina.

Suck of the day award goes to: BJ's gas station on Capital Blvd behind Mimi's Cafe.
Was going to ride with some buddies this morning, stopped there to top off. I started my normal refuel procedure: fully insert nozzle into tank, hold it wide open until the pump stops, then pull the nozzle out and top of the rest by sight. The pump didn't stop this time, fuel came spraying back out of the tank and ran down the side of the bike. They didn't have a water hose available so I did my best to clean up the mess using the windshield squeegee. No real harm, just an annoying way to start a ride. We went on to put on ~150 "fun" miles before returning home in time for Memorial Day festivities. |

I'm sore and tired but I'll take it. Looks like I managed to boink both sides and both ends of the bike, it must have flipped. Damage is really not bad thankfully, probably about $500 in parts. Frame/fork alignment checks out o.k. so far but I don't have it totally stripped yet. It rode and tracked just fine at race speeds after the biff. I'm glad I packed a bunch of big zip ties on the bike as they came in handy. |
