I don't get out of work until 5pm, so I would be the Barricade Orange (or Midnight Black) blur on I70. First meeting Good Friday?

Hey Erik,
Perhaps we could make it a duo: Hero blue blur right behind the Orange or Black blur... then I wouldn't have to worry about directions, and you'll have someone to call the ambulance for that nasty black ice you run into every so often.

Hey I'll go to those meeting that I'm not working.

Anyone thinking about taking that ferry across Lake Michigan to avoid Chicago?

So I'm I to understand that "slabbing it out" means to make it in one day? Or riding on the highway?

Smiley,
At this time, I would say that sounds like a plan. (Black ice isn't a problem on the straight sections, just when you lean into your turn)

"Slabbing it out" means to use the major highways. This would most likely end up being a 'one day' kind of trip.. Not sure on how many hours it is.. but the 'plan' still isn't in place yet so we don't have a basis to start from.

Right now, I'm thinking the ferry across would add time to our trip and we (depending on what time we leave) may not be able to do it all in one day if we have to wait for the ferry.

I'm thinking that some of us may just 'slab it' all the way.. phew.. then rest a little once we get and there and start the 'festivities'..

I found a trailer to tow around my bike. Now I have options as far as getting up there. Havent decided what I'm doing for sure, but I'd be interested in share-riding up there. Take turns driving and riding. It's a thought...

Oh Bearly, that's actually what I was thinking. The ferry sounds pretty groovy. I planned on doing a bit of riding through Canada.

Ratbuell,
Hey Joe, is the meeting set up for Friday the 21st? If so, I'll be there. Through a nice coincidence, I have that day off! (Guess what I'll be out doing?)

If things work out with Marlinrider, I'll stop by the Baltimore dealer before 5 and then we'll haul tail up there. Still going Erik?

And I was thinking that this kinda stuff should be started on a new thread, but I was waiting until you get the word about the meeting place.

Smileyeye, Sounds good but I don't have the time to ride up to Canada eh? I'm not set yet on the ferry boat. I was thinking of that If I was going to go with only one other or small group. The Ferry is a three hour trip I hear. Just riding across lake would take an hour and it's more direct route from here to head up to west central MI. So all in all I'd say it adds about 1.5 hours to the trip one way. I'm sure that ferry doesn't run every hour however and it might add an extra day just to wait till the next departure time. I have to research this a little more.

If there are going to be a gang of rude, crude and obnoxious hoodlums going together, then I'll have to go with them.

Not going to make to any meeting on the 21st. I'm leaving 20 and will not be back in town till 4/1/8. (I'm going to recurrent training in Dallas) So let me know what path of destruction we will follow. :-)

Smileyeye,
The weather looks good for riding to Fredneck Friday nite. Now we just need to confirm that the meeting is on!

You know, I'm starting to notice that there are an awful lot of pilots riding these bikes... thought I was the only one flying a pattern this low!
And has anyone else thought about how cool it would be to sneak a bike onto a runway and just give it hell? Maybe it's just me...

Sorry, random thoughts sometimes escape.

Just bought my ticket. Opted for the $55 package, don't think I belong on the track up there anyway.
Plus, if I can manage to talk this one girl into heading up with me, the last thing I'd want to do is leave that hot little lady alone around a bunch of bikers!
As of now, I kinda wanted to Iron Butt it up there, but I do have a trailer now, soooo. There's room for two bikes and gear on the trailer.

I haven't bought my ticket yet but I've convinced myself it's a "Must do" event. In other words count me in. The only locals I know that are going is RatBuell and now Smiley. So it will be cool to hang out with some folks from the area, not that it would be an issue making conversation with the mass of Buellers that will be assembled.

I don't think the GF is going to make the trip... unfortunately she doesn't share the passion enough to eat up vacation time. I'm looking for a means of transporting the bike since I don't think it will fit in my Subaru. Worst case scenario, I'll just load up the saddle bags and mash it up there over night.

Bluxb9x if I end up riding up, I'd join you, just not sure I want to take the long way going up. 2 days on the bike, sleeping on the ground before arriving might make for a rough start to a 5 day event (which will involve drinking and late nights).

A more direct route would be cool with me.

Looks like we'll be using the trailer.. Two bikes and all the luggage.. But once we're there, unless the weather really turns ugly on us) we'll be on two wheels the rest of the time.. May even ride a little on the way up there.. You never know when the mood could strike one of us!

Bluxb9sx I'll think about doing the extended road trip up, but I would rather head there directly. I just got back from a 12 hour mountain bike endurance race... camping, racing and no sleep since yesterday 10:00 am. I'm no stranger to bodily abuse, just not sure I want start Homecoming off that way. Plenty of time to work it out and see what others are planning. I would be fun to get a group together.

I'll be reserving my hotel room this week.

All, I signed up for everything.
I think I'm leaving on the 1st and taking two days to ride up. I'm going to see if I can't hit some twisties on the way across WV.

But then reading the rules for the track day is a 75% wear minimum. Since I get about 3800 miles from my back tires. I will be right at that limit when I reach Troy assuming I put on fresh skins before I go.

Any one else have those concerns?

I was going to do the track day as well.. But the Mrs. was kind of concerned about it. What if I went down? Wreck the bike and I've wrecked the trip.. she doesn't want to do a track day.. So we'll be doing the local rides instead.. and the dinner.. and I guess we'll hit the races.. and.. well.. some of the other stuff.. We'll have to check out 'The Boiler Room' from all the chatter in the 25th thread..

Phew.. and time is getting closer as we speak.. of course, I'm supposed to be on Summit Saturday (Shenny) so we'll see how that works out..

If it's any help, myself, XB9er and Alchemy are trucking/trailering to Homecoming. Plans are to leave on Wednesday, July 2, and driving strait thru to the host hotel.

Not sure on if we are going to ferry it across Lake Michigan or drive around/thru Chicago.

Either way, I'll have some empty space in the back of the truck and can get a broken down bike to/from Homecoming.

PM for a cell number.

Dan

BluBlak, You both are riding out? How cool. I can see being concerned about the track day so far from home. But I'll be in the novice group... what could happen? I guess I'm riding out if I don't hitch a ride with someone. Are you doing two days out or just one fast one?

Bluxb9sx, Yea I'm pretty consistent on several different types, it's always between 3500 & 3800 miles. I just wore my first Corsa III down to cords in 3760 miles and most of that was when it was cold out. Me trying to make 800 miles in two days, I think I'll just have a large wear mark down the center.

Bearly, Nope, we're not riding out.. She's going to be on her Blast and it won't be up to toting all the luggage and making the trip.

So, we'll be hauling the bikes and riding once we're up there.. We'll see ya there!

I'm riding. Getting all my gear together now and getting all the kinks worked out before I take off. But I will be two wheeling it up there.
I'll see some of you at registration at the host hotel, but I'm sure I'll be sleeping somewhere else for the couple of days I'm staying there.
