Couldn't wait any longer. Dealer still had no bike for me after 8 weeks, so I called around and found one on the floor in Kennewick and booked it. Got a ride there from my daughter last Saturday and rode the Passion Red beauty home. Ran out of gas on the first tank! Just a mile from The Dalles on Washington 14. I hadn't calculated the 30 mph headwind coming up the Gorge. Some nice dudes in a truck drove me to a gas station and back to fill me with gas. These were Harley folks with heart. Spent the night in Sisters when it got dark and started spitting snow. Rode over the Cascades in sunshine on Sunday.
Bike reminds me of the Derbi, in that it has no torque, so you gotta carry your momentum into the curves if you want to come out of them moving. Two wheels in front leaves you unbelievably planted in the corners despite gravel, tar snakes, water, center lines or frost heaves. At least one of the two always finds traction. And I can get into all the trouble I can afford with a bike that will only go 90.
And nobody knows what it is. "has that thing got two wheels in front?" Duhhhhhh, yeah, by golly, I think it does. You get a lot of double takes.

Shotgun - I am sooooo tempted to pick one of those up for my wife. I think it would be so much easier to get her out there ridin'. Plus.... I could borrow it, of course.

Sweet ride!

Hey all,

I think this link is worth sharing:

Crazy Canadian inventors! :-)

I took the bike out a few times in the last week, and can't believe that the battery is still working after 7 riding seasons.

I'm thinking of a pre-SPLASH ride down the beautiful west coast in July; still working on the details.

Oh, yeah, I was busy here:

Sorry not going along this year. I am, though, taking the FJR to Cashmere for a SAR conference. Going to be a toasty weekend. Have fun down in Sonoma!

Arrrg! Wrenching on the new Beemer according to Bob's diagnosis. And Bob's out having fun. Head is off. Rings look fine, moving freely. I'm now thinking burnt valve? Do I remember you saying the lash was very tight, Bob?
(Trying to get it running in time for the weekend.)

Hey guys, Both my bikes are in the shop so I rented a HD Nightrod special and rode 700 miles this weekend for the Oregon 500. Great fun, but I'm still recovering from the seating position! Speaking of bikes in the shop - it turns out that my Buell (98 S3) recall (rear) shock is so badly damaged that it can't even be rebuilt and Buell isn't selling them anymore. Does anyone know of where I might be able to get a replacement and also if the S3 and S1 shocks are the same as we found an S1 shock on ebay... I had this shock rebuilt by RaceTech a few years back but I guess that wasn't enough - Maybe putting the shock under the bike wasn't such a great idea
Thanks for any input on this. Please call me if you know where I can get a replacement shock - 541-815-9575 or email me at mginbend@yahoo.com. Hope to see you all at SPLASH this year!
MG

Working towards resolution. Scored a valve spring compressor. Turned the head upside down, and filled with solvent, found a small leakage ion the intake. So all is good. Problem identified, easy to fix, and got the tool.

Hey Mike, good to hear from you. Check out the photo of Saroppie's new shock in the April 30 archive. I shopped Works shocks a while back and found them to be a good bang for the buck. Also, check into a Penske unit, a lot of money but way adjustable.

Take care,
Chris

HALF WAY...

WE MADE IT!

BIG BRIAN AND THE MIGHTY DUC!

THE WORLD-FAMOUS FUNJIMMY!

ROCKET RON AND THE 1125R!

FIREMAN JIMS BIRD OF POTATODISE

JUST ONE OF THE CALI POOLS...

...And then I got too lazy to carry my camera. So it's up to the others to carry on the image display.

Jimmy, Ron and I elected to ride Sunday and miss the race at Infinion. We had our own race up the coast to Redding, where we met the truck-loaded with Bob, Steve, & Brian.
I road like an absolute madman, faster and better than ever in this life-time. With Betty's new suspension, she was, was, unflappable, unstoppable.. it was impossible to screw the pooch. I ground both of my pegs down about a half an inch, time for rear-sets.
Thanks go out to FiremanJim for putting up with us while putting us up!
Thanks go out to Big Steve for shouldering the driving duties both ways.
Thanks go out to Bob for bugging me until I finally went to Sonoma-Fest.
Thanks go out to Al Lighton for the shock that brought Betty back to life.
Thanks go out to Duane and Lisa for welcoming us home.
Thanks go out to FunJimmy... just because.

Man I love riding with my friends. See ya all at S.P.L.A.S.H!

Hey Jimmy,

Are you still interested in looking into a group Portland track day? Here is a link to Cascade Tracktime's Schedule.

Linky!

I'm sure that Cascade Tracktime isn't the only guys running trackdays. I think a group trackday would be a blast! Let's stay on this and get something scheduled.

Cheers,
Ron

A few more dates available from 2-Fast at Pacific -

http://www.2-fast.org/

They have a July 9 date that I like the looks of but I'm pretty much open to whatever works for the collective.

1125r:

We are all very sorry to hear that you and your family where dealing with difficult times, and wish you the best in overcoming these challenges. Hopefully you will be back in the fray for some more moto therapy soon.

Just by chance I was hoping that you still had the Penski shock and where looking for a loving home for it.

Ron:

2-fast looks great. Now the difficult part is getting a consensus from the rest of the rag tag team. Let’s go riding!

Jimmy
