I have. My good friend, who is an avid Harley rider, had quadruple bypass surgery the first week of April. When I went to visit him in the hospital, I wanted to take a card. Not wanting to get just some lame Hallmark, I stopped in to Thunderbird which was on my way. I picked up a nice bar and shield logo card that was blank inside and a pin of an angel riding a sportster. At that time, I made my annual observation of the store and found things to be just as I had seen them last.

I'm not sure if they have any left. Mine looked like it spent the entire two years outside in the sun. Looks much better now.

The remaining leftovers I saw were a little higher mileage and dinged up. One had a tear in the seat and the grab handles were really scratched up.

Are there any ECYspy experts in the ABQ or Santa Fe area?

Thanks,
Craig

I think Joel is pretty good with it but I haven't seen him checking in here lately. He sold his Uly and got a Ducati. He's actually been manufacturing the cables for guys and helping them with the programming and stuff. I'll see if I find his email and forward to you.

It's like the curse of washing your car. As soon as you do, it rains. Every time I go outside to dust them off, the wind picks up. There is just no room on the showroom floor for them. Please let me know if you have found a way to keep the wind from blowing.

Jeremy,
They are right were they need to be, right in front of the shop. What's a little dust from passing traffic? At least they get good visiblity there.
Thanks for the test ride on the XT, that really is a sweet bike now, compared to the too tall ULY. Shame your not letting anyone demo the 1125R, I'm glad I got a ride on down in San Antonio.
As soon as the house financing is done we'll give you a call.

I agree, Jeremy is a good dude. I hope his enthusiasm for Buell's spreads around the dealership. Unfortunately I met him after I bought the bike from a guy who was, let's say, less educated about them. (c;

Quite a few of the buellers are going out to the track tomorrow for the track day...

Lunch will be free...

Stop by if you make it out, I'm going to be working pit out since I still can't ride.

Well, we have Enchanted Circle on the books for tomorrow, but there's no way I can go. I've been out of town for most of the last two weeks and "she who must be obeyed" won't look kindly on my taking off to ride on one of the only days off we have together. Besides, as Kim points out, many of our regulars will be doing the track day at SMRI.

We have another group ride set for May 18th to do the High Road for those that don't go on the Gateway, CO ride with the Colorado Thunder Club. Also, a really good route planned for Memorial Day weekend designed to be fun and hopefully avoid the crowds from the Red River run.

Those of you that missed it can see our ride calendar here:

My ears were burning. Someone must have asked about ECMSpy. Craig pm me with any questions you have. I have parts coming in to build cables this week for 4 people. I've also still got the first one I ever built if you want to try it out.

Jeremy,
You have a lot of work to do to win back customers at that store. Me and my (then) wife were treated like absolute shit when I attempted to buy a Uly from them. I'm also 99% sure that the bike Craig bought is the one I test rode and tried to buy in July of '06. The store would have made a lot more money on the bike if they accepted my offer that was very reasonable and was accepted at Santa Fe. I know several HD guys at work that only deal with Santa Fe for the same reason. It's great that you are looking to fix things, but realize that the problems run deep and are several years long now. Hard to fix that much negative publicity.

Everyone else, hope things are going good for you all. Have fun at the track and be safe on the streets.

If that's you who put that scratch in my airbox cover you owe me. (c; I'll get with you soon about the ECMspy cable and info. Thanks for the offer.

On another note, any idea why the 1st service cost so much in this area. I got a quote of $399 at T-bird and rode up to SF HD to look around today and was told $479.

Seems kind of high to me. Opinions?

Today was my first time on the track and I had a lot of fun. Sandia BMW did a good job. I took the street riding course and learned a hell of a lot. I met Murrae out there and would love to meet the rest of you in time. Though most of you have an aversion to the dealership I work for, I am still a buell rider. Please keep me in mind when you guys have planned rides.
Take care.

I saw ya there Jeremy, I followed ya in through the gate in the morning. I didn't really have time to single ya out to talk you to while I was working the pit. Shame, you left early for the last school session there was only two bikes left on the track.

It was a very interesting day, a couple of very close calls with people in the school doing things that put themselves and other at risk.

A few bad wrecks, one was Armando for the SF dealership. He broke his leg in 3 places. One guy went down and in 7 and was sliding right at me, he broke stuff in his hand from the looks of it. And, one of the photographers was taken out by the air fence blowing over the K wall and he might have broken his leg too.

I was actually kind of glad that I wasn't able to ride, considering everything that was going on.

Craig,

Sorry, I didn't see your post earlier... Usually, we start on the track at 9 am, but it got off to a very late start yesterday.

Wow... the crashes must have slowed things down quite a bit. In April when they had a crash it was like an hour of down time waiting for the ambulance to get back.

Yup, it did slow things down, but not quite so long as that one in April. But, if ya combine all of the events it was more then one hour.

Dude... I'm getting pissed.

I don't know how I overlooked this earlier when I was posting about the upcoming rides, but I have to work on 5/18. This sucks because I have not gotten to go on any rides yet this year.

May 25th is my birthday, so I'm 90% sure I'll be riding that day. However, given that it is my birthday, I'll probably be bringing the wife. Which should be ok since at least a couple of you have wives to bring too.

Also, I met a kid at work today who's driving a 250 ninja. He was wearing a Buell helmet so I asked him what was up with that. He stated that both were gifts, so he didn't get to pick them out. He did say that he's really interested in getting a Buell, so I told him about Nick's 9R. My brother in law is also interested in getting a bike and so I also told him about Nick's bike. So, there's two leads for you, Nick! I didn't give out your number, but I'll refer them here if they want to contact you.

Anyway... have a nice Mother's Day weekend.

I'd like to ride on Sunday... and I can ride, I just can't push the bike outta the garage with one arm.

I played yesterday on the one of the training bikes, I don't have any problems or pain riding, but slow lock to lock turning to the left does cause some pain.

I know you want to, but there's no sense rushing things. You'll just have too much opportunity to hurt yourself more. Take your time and heal up properly.

The 2003 XB9R is definitely for sale. Interested parties should let me know.

I took the XB9R to Taos yesterday (low road up and high road back). The bike is in great running order. Good maintenance and a few extras... Its got just over 24K miles on it.

This is the place!!

Typically, we meet at about 0930 or so at Santa Fe HD/Buell. Since some of us live down in the Albuquerque/Rio Rancho areas, we typically meet at 0830 at the McDonalds in Bernalillo, then ride up together on I-25.

Once we meet at 0930, we wait, sometimes for a while, for the Buellers who are on NM Time to arrive sometime around 1000. Then, we leave out to go on the ride.

THIS TIME, I am really pining to go, but can't because I have to work. This is the first Sunday I've had to work in about two years, so I'm a little pissed. The High Road is one of my favorite rides. Look for me on the 25th, though.

Just thought that I would pass this one along, in case anyone was interested.

Motorcycle Races this Weekend!!

This weekend (May 17th & 18th) we will be having our 2nd race of the year. Come out and watch as the top motorcycle riders in NM battle it out. SMRI Champ Ray Thornton will be returning from his AMA tour to come see what the expert riders have for him this year! The Novice class is packed with new and upcoming racers who are eager to find out how much they have improved since the past weekend.

And don't forget about the ladies who battle it out in our Formula Femme class, only this time we will be hosting round 1 of the WoW Series (Women of the West) with our sister club in Colorado (MRA). Who will take Round 1 in this exciting new series??

If you have been out before, please read below... there are a couple changes to due to AMA guidelines:

*
Due to AMA rules, no minors are allowed in the pit without having both parents consent. These forms can be done ahead of time, but they must be notarized. If you have an individual under the age of 18 who in the past has entered the pit area, please be aware of these new restrictions. For more information, please refer to the AMA website. Here are a couple links:
o
http://www.amadirectlink.com/organizers/resources/ forms/Waiver_Release_Guidelines.pdf
o
http://www.amadirectlink.com/organizers/resources/ forms/Releases/2008AnnualReleaseMINOR.pdf
*
Entrance into the pit or the grandstand will be $10 per spectator, $5 per racer.

Volunteers Needed!
Because of the new restrictions on minors in the pit area, we will have to increase the number of workers for a race weekend. We will now need to staff someone at the pit gate entrance, the grandstand gate entrance and the gate between the pits and grandstands. If you or someone you know would like to help out, please respond to this email ASAP. I'm thinking hours will run something like the following:

* Pit Gate: Saturday & Sunday from 7:00 until 1:00
* Grandstand Gate: Saturday & Sunday from 9:00 to 4:00
* Gate between Pits & Grandstands: 7:00 to 4:00

These hours can of course be broken down... so if you can volunteer for any time slot (7 to 10, 1 to 2, etc), please let us know... every little bit will help. Novice hours can be counted towards this or we can look at SMRI bucks for some compensation.

Corner workers are always needed as well... there is no better way to see the race action up close and personal then to work a corner!

Questions?? Reply to this email and we will get back to you ASAP, or look for your answer on the web at http://www.smri-racing.org.

The weather is supposed to be nice and should make for a great race weekend. I look forward to seeing you all there! Good luck to all the racers! See you this weekend!
