XBlaw- cool shots. I have found a couple of similar "tracks" not too far from Summerville.

BTW, if anyone missed getting a Buell hydration pack at March Badness, I picked up an extra yesterday at Granite Mountain Buell near Atlanta; I'll be glad to pass it on to a deserving Badwebber. I stopped by to check out their Granite Mountain's new Buell section- it's pretty cool.

I really appreciate it. I may need to catch you one evening in Summerville.I have to go there a lot for parts(machine shop)
We have a race this weekend (Sat.nite) and someone broke into the track and stole all the copper wiring(concession stand,bathrooms,etc.) So will be there all day Wed. trying to replace the wiring(and maybe Thur. if we don't get done)maybe we can hook up when I'm passing thru, if not I'll contact you next week when it's not so hectic. Hello to all,

I am new to this forum thing and was looking for some local SC input and help. I have been riding for several years owning 6 motorcycles (3 Buells) in the past 5 years. I recently purchased a New 08 XB12R Firebolt from Tilley HD-Buell in Statesville, NC. As I was nearing the 1,000 mile mark, I started to notice some mild burping/sputtering back through the airbox. I took the bike in to North Myrtle Beach HD-Buell for its 1K service and mentioned the problem. The mechanic said that he was familiar with this problem and said that a set of new Gold Plugs should take care of this. After the service, I picked up the bike and on the trip back home (approx. 15 miles), the bike began burping again at low speed. I called the dealer and arranged for them to take another look at it. They said they couldn’t get it in for a few days and I did not ride it again until I went to take it to the dealer. I let the bike warm up for about 5 to 10 min, and set out for the dealer only to find that the burping was extremely worse. The bike began burping multiple times and stalled out 3 times on the way to the dealer. Burping was not only at slow speeds, but now at higher speeds & RPMs causing the bike to slow dramatically with each burp. The dealer has had the bike now for about 2 weeks and keeps giving me the run around. The said they have replaced the ECM and it made a big difference, but as they test drive it around the dealership, it still ‘burps’ at slow speeds/RPMs. Now they tell me that it may be a fuel pressure (regulator) problem, but have blown me off for the more important Spring Rally and paying customers instead of fixing a warranty issue.

Needless to say I am less than impressed with the level of services I am receiving. This is the first New motorcycle I have ever purchased, and the first one that is fuel injected. I was wondering if anyone had any general information on this Burping issue. Also, I am looking for a new Dealer to perform my scheduled maintenance. I live in Myrtle Beach, but would be willing to take my bike some distance to receive better service. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if any Buell riders are going to be up this way or live in the MB area and would like to meet/ride, I’m always interested. Don’t know anyone up here that shares my affinity for Buell Motorcycles.

Joe, sorry to hear about your troubles with the new Firebolt. Maybe some of the guys on the forum with that model will have a fix for you. I believe Low Country HD/Buell in Charleston has the same owner as the HD/Buell shops in Myrtle and North Myrtle. At any rate, I'm was underwhelmed by Low Country's general lack of knowledge about the Ulysses model and by the fact that they had nothing Buell-related in parts or accessories when I was in there two months ago for my $320 first (and last) service and warranty claim. Although, it's quite a ways from Myrtle, have you talked to the service guy at Tilley in Statesville? They might be more motivated to help since you bought the bike from them.

jo, it seems like your at the wrong place at the wrong time, not to mention trying to get something done by a dealer that doesn't get it. being up in greenville, i don't have no choice but to go somewhere out of the area. i ended up going about 120 miles away to get the first service done. i'll be down there with some other people next friday so if nothing else my number is on the B.R.A.N.. feel free to call me.

Joe- sorry to hear about your problem. Any time you run into this kind of issue, it's always a good idea to call Buell Customer Service at 1-414-343-8400 (the phone number's in your owner's manual too if you ever need to find it). Like Court (Badweb resident Buell sage) says, be courteous and patient and you'll get a good response. Buell CS can often "coach" a service department that seems clueless and they do seem to be good at getting repairs like this done in a reasonable time frame.

You might also post in the XB forum here (if you haven't already. Someone there may have run into this exact issue before.

Yes, the owner is same. And just like you see down there (or don’t see), the only thing you can get at the dealer thats Buell related is a small porcelain pin. I just got off the phone with NMB Harley and they said they have my bike fixed, so I am going to go pick it up this afternoon. I’ll keep you posted if that statement is true. Otherwise, I think you’re right and I’m going to contact Tilley to deal with this issue if it arises again. Thanks.

I'd be interested in going as long as it was a one day thing.

On the other side of news. I got my new tires. comparing the new to the old I must of grinded nearly an inch off of my tires to get them to the point they are at now. I also got a Marc Parnes wheel balancer, its of good quality, many people on badweb have used it and have no bad remarks about it. I'm getting the "Harbor Freight" type of tire changer, searching badweb you get mixed results. Some say avoid at all cost others say its works, just needs a lot of human work to get the job done. as long as its better than a C-clamp and a couple of large flat head screw drivers I think it'll be ok. Thats how I was taught to change tires, hopefully with this "harbor freight" model bolted down it'll be easier than that.

So this weekend I'll be changing my tires, I also have to get an oil filter and spark plugs, I'll get that sometime this week.

Nick- I bought one the Harbor Freight jobs right before MBV and mounted my Pirellis. #1 thing is plan on bolting it down in your garage before you start. The bad things about it are the blocks that hold the wheel in place are just powder coated steel and will mar the rim if you don't do something to protect it. I put a few turns of duct tape around mine (after trying it without) and that seemed to work OK. The pulley gets in the way on the rear wheel; I believe the easiest thing to do would be to remove it before trying to change the tire.

The "bar" that comes with the setup has the same problem as the blocks on the base. A healthy wrap of duct tape might work for that too. The slick tool to use is the "No-Mar" bar (they also make a really nice tire changer but it's like ~$500). The bar is $100; the working end of it is polyethylene so it can't scratch your rims. That's more than the cost of the whole Harbor Freight changer, but it's probably a good investment. I suspect I'll invest in one before my next tire change.

can't do anything these days without duct tape. Always a good thing to have around. Hugh what do you use as tire lubricant? I've always learned to use whatever dish soap is in the house at the time.

Nick- I used Dawn & water about 25/75. I think proper tire lubricant would work better if you could find some.

The hardest part of the job is mounting the rear tire. There is only a very slight "depression" in the center of the rear wheel so the tire is a VERY tight fit when stretching the opposite side of the bead over the rim. An extra set of hands helps.

well I got most everything done, plugs, oil, primary fluid, oil filter, I even got the wheels off and the old tires off (with just hand tools). My tire changer is coming by FedEx which is a useless delivery company, first they said they will come Thursday, then Saturday (today) and now it won't be till Tuesday. But I gotten as far as I can without it. I can't seem to get the new tires on without some special tools, at least I made alot of progress. Thanks fedex for giving me a headache. At work we always use UPS and now I see why.

Hey guys, I did a "dry run" for a route for the upstate meet this weekend. I would have tried to coordinate with some of you, but this was kind of a last minute deal (if I don't go riding NOW I'm going insane if you know what I mean).

Left Summerville 9:30 AM on Saturday and headed to Caesar's Head. I-26/I-385 to Greenville, 276 from there. I took 276 to Brevard, NC, then up and over the Blue Ridge Parkway as far north as Highway 215. Headed back south on 215 crossed over the Parkway again and down to Rosman, NC and Highway 178. Took 178 down the mountain and back into SC. Followed 178 south, I was planning to come all the way home Saturday night but I was wasted by 7 PM so I spent the night in Greenwood, SC and came home Sunday.

Road report-

1. 276 up the mountain to Caesar's Head is great twisties but the pavement is sucky and you almost always get stuck behind cars.
2. 276 up to the Parkway is awesome but there are a lot of parking areas, especially along the lower portion so you have to hold your pace down.
3. 276 north of the Parkway is great twisties but the pavement REALLY sucks for the first ~5 miles. Even with the Uly's long-travel suspension it was pretty slow going. After 5 miles or so, not as many twisties but pavement is much better.
4. 215 north of the Parkway was cool. Great twisties, OK pavement, and some neat scenery. I spotted at least a couple of cool waterfalls but didn't take time to sstop.
5. 215 south of the Parkway is good too. Better pavement, but pretty steep downhill. If you're like me I much prefer twisties in the uphill direction.
6. 178 from Rosman into SC- awesome road. Got stuck behind two Harleys riding two-up and they did NOT know how to ride. ~15 MPH through all curves, crossed yellow line multiple times. After crossing highway 11 in SC they stopped side-by-side in the middle of the freaking road to converse. I imagine they were discussing where to purchase more chrome for their bikes...

Oh yea, in ~600 miles of riding I passed ONE Buell; a CityX north of Caesar's Head. I did talk to an obviously German gentleman in the parking lot at Caesar's Head who was very interested in the Uly. He had wanted to buy one but after getting the cold shoulder from the dealer in Gastonia, NC bought a Ducati Multistrada instead. He said he might still get the Uly in the near future.

I think 2 days is pretty much mandatory for an upstate meet (at least for those of us coming from the Lowcountry). As far as hotels, there are a few in Travelers Rest, SC which is about 20 miles south of Caesar's Head, or you can go north to Brevard where there are plenty. I'm sure there's plenty of camping in the area too.

If anyone's got suggestions for possible dates, I'm all ears.

68th Annual Myrtle Beach Bike Week was definitely down as compared to the past few years. I haven?t seen the final numbers yet, but there were fewer vendors and fewer bikes up and down the Grand Strand. Horry County stated that they issued over 400 vender permits during the 2007 Spring Rally and only about 355 this year. The Police reported 3 motorcycle fatalities this year from May 9 to May 18, which in each accident the rider was not wearing a helmet. The police also indicated fewer major accidents this year. I was out riding all weekend in the festivities and found that the traffic was not nearly as bad as past years.

This year Harley moved their set up from the MB Convention Center to the Hard Rock Theme Park parking lot. Although I enjoyed the set up and fee admission (used to be $10 at the Convention Center) this year, I was disappointed to find less vendors and over an 1.5 hour wait for the free Harley demo rides, which did not include any of the Buell Models. As in past years, there were usually H-D Dealer?s from up and down the coast selling overstocked or discontinued items at sale price. However, there was none of that this year or any new H-D bike customization item demos or new apparel.

I asked the H-D staff if they were going to come back down this weekend (Memorial Day Bike Fest) and have the Harley and Buell demo rides as they did last year, but know one there knew anything about it? I would really like to take the 1125R out for a test ride. Last year I rode the 07 Firebolt during a demo and is the main reason why I bought my 08. Also the Buell Stunt team was here last year for the Memorial Bike Fest and I hope they come back again, simply amazing. Has anyone else heard if they are going to have the Harley/Buell demo rides this year in Myrtle Beach during Memorial Day Bike Fest?

Hugh, I've stayed at the Blue Ridge Motorcycle Campground in Cruso a few times.
It's on 276 about 6 miles north of the BRP.

I lived in Myrtle Beach in 86-87 and have been going to the harley bike week since 96 I don't recall ever paying admission to the convention center and if selected wisely you can ride practically non stop on demo rides although maybe not exactly what bike you really want to, but it makes a good time filler. I too was disappointed by the lack of buells but the V-Rod rides more than made up for the lack of Buells at the demo fleet. To quote Disney it was an E ticket ride. I was told that Buell now has it's own demo fleet and that is why there was no Buells at this event.

For those who were cruising King's Highway Saturday night I was at the Dog House South trying to flag down fellow Buell riders with my Buell jacket while sitting at the railing

I have only been going to the MB rally since 99, and I have always paid to get into the convention center. However, one of my Harley buddies tells me that they let you in free with your HOG membership card.
