Jim or any on else interested. I'm still looking to plan a cross country trip for late May early June. Would like to plan the trip as week or two outing. The intent would be to take the back roads and just see the country. Do some camping along the way. My only planned destination/stop along the way is to hit the hill country in Texas (Austin area). Other than that, the route is completely open.

If interested, lets get some dates firmed up and start planning?

quote:

I have such little time to badweb anymore. Between work and Daddy duty in the evenings I have little time to surf or ride. If I did not commute to work the bike would not see the light of day for weeks.

I've been there and I don't even have Daddy duty . . . yet. I'm sitting in front of the computer most of the day at work so surfing isn't an issue, but sometimes it seems like the only miles on my bike are between work and home. Things have been lightening up lately though.

quote:

Thanks to everyone for helping make this event a success. Big thanks to Spike and Webe, I know the demos can be rough.

Glad to help. It was busy, but it was worth it. Now that we've had some practice we'll be a little more prepared and more organized for next time. I think the post-ride interview is an important part of the demo ride, but we need to get the next group staged and ready to go so that the rides can happen on schedule. Maybe we could rotate the lead riders so someone is available for briefing/debriefing?

quote:

We will start planning something for June soon. Any suggestions?

Anything that includes seat time would be a great way to draw in the sport bike riders and true enthusiasts. Since the goal of these events (from the dealer's perspective) is to reach out to the sport bike enthusiasts and draw them to the dealership, maybe team up with Badweb/C3/NCS to organize a morning ride that ends at the dealership in time for the event.

Just thinking of some other ideas for events, could maybe have a tech session to go over suspension setup or proper maintenance. I know the Daytona 200 party didn't draw much of a crowd, but perhaps with more promotion another race viewing party or showing of a classic motorcycle flick like On Any Sunday would work.

Some of you saw the posters for our Sportbike Skilled Rider course during our Sportbike Appreciation Day. I have just put up more information at http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/171 43/357369.html?1209506479.

Seeinstars-follow the link and read into it. Sounds like something That could be benificial to all. But Daggumit I can't afford Myrtle/Vir and this course. Will it be offered @ a later date?

Spike,
Not only was that taillight (in modified form) used on the S2/S2-T and S3/S3-T, but before those it was used on:
The RSS 1200:

RSS 1200 taillight

The RS 1200:

RS 1200 taillight

The RR 1200:

RR 1200 taillight

And even the RR 1000:

RR 1000 taillight

The modification was to the lens. The lower portion of the lens (which you can barely see in the Guzzi pic) was cut off so the taillight would fit into the opening in the tail section. In the early days this modification was done at Buell on the trusty old band saw, but later was farmed out. Imagine the same taillight used on all the road going Buell's up until the S2 and then carrying over onto the S3. The Buell part number is Y0401.2QQ. The 'QQ' at the end denotes that the part is modified before it is ready for use. The '.2' designation means that it goes WAY back into the annals of Buell history. For comparison '.8' was the descriptor for the '95 S2, while '.9' was the descriptor for the '96 S1.

So, in the end, a Harley guy (hey there's one in every crowd...but he's slowly being converted to a Bueller...forks and brakes today, rearsets and 17 inch front wheel tomorrow - yeah, I know that 17 inch front wheel is a stretch...) Sportymark who goes home with the 100% correct answer. However, please enjoy the easily downloaded pictures above as your consolation prize...

MTB,
+1 to Spike's recommendation for a suspension set up seminar. I've always wanted to learn the technique, and the only 'negative' I could possibly see is that the management might think that it could affect service revenue. Thinking on that a little, the true enthusiasts (which I think is what is being targeted - Hey, I've been profiled before, but never in a positive way...) who are willing to learn this would most likely already be doing the service work themselves. The newbies or others that may be put off by the process would continue to pay for their service work. So, in the end, there is no lost service revenue and a valuable tool is put in one's toolbox. Let's not forget the riding safety that comes from proper suspension set up.

MTB,

I second U4euh's ? about the course being offered at a later date. The 23rd of May I will be returning from a business trip to Pennsylvania (the same one that I'm still peeved about not being able to ride there and back) and I won't even land in New Bern until around 7:30 p.m. I saw the posters and got excited and then realized that there's no way I can make this one.

I'm a little late with this one, but a BIG thanks goes out to everyone who helped make the Sportbike Appreciation Day the enjoyable event it was. From Webe and Spike for being Demo-masters, to MTB for sparking the fire at RP, to Jordan and everyone else at RP for their involvement in pulling it off and most importantly for everyone who could attend and made it a point to participate.

Jim and Brankin, I do have more Skilled Rider Courses scheduled, but I have decided that this would be the sportbike one for this year. I have ones scheduled for 5/9-5/10, 6/13-6/14, and 10/31-11/2. I have availability in all of those classes.

Sort - I'm planning on going though I haven't registered yet. I'll probably ride up, despite the general consensus that thats a bad thing to do. It's about a hundred miles from Raleigh. I did it last year, it makes for a long day, but it was definitely doable.

Home from the BMW performance center. Exhausted. Really challenging (scary) enduro test at the end of the Instructor training.

I passed. .

I'm not sure what happens from here as they dole out information as they deem appropriate.

I never dreamed you could ride a GS1200 up a 30' near vertical dirt wall and down a freaking gravelly cliff with turns along the way.

Lots of full lock circles and figure 8's in a 5 meter box make me dizzy.

Many other challenges as well.

I got a cap with the BMW Performance Driving Center logo with "Instructor" embroidered below it.

It's a start and maybe a good time to get in as the motorcycle program is in its infancy and they want it to grow as the car "M" school has (which is a really big deal).

There were a few good ones. The best was one who tucked the front on a really steep and loose downhill cross-slope turn (bike recovery was easy for him as they ended up at the bottom). I managed to keep it "rubberdown"; thankfully, as a fall during the test = 0 points for that element of the test.

Figured I'd give you guys first shot; I've got a rear Pirelli Diablo Corsa III tire in 180/55ZR17 with less than 1k miles for sale. The bad news is that it has a small bolt running right through the center of it and will need to be patched/plugged. I bought the tire in July of '07 and did one track day and less than 1k street miles before picking up this bolt. I would have plugged it and kept using it on the street, but I had another track day coming up and didn't want to risk it. I pulled the tire off and it has been sitting in my garage ever since. If you don't mind riding on plugged tires here's a chance to pick up a nice, sticky tire for dirt cheap. I'll probably post it in the classifieds for $25.

*edit- forgot disclaimer: This is a used tire, by purchasing this tire you are releasing me of any liability for any harm done with this tire. : )

Here we go ... I think I'm going to enter. RallyMoto Tennessee. It's a "dirty" tarmac rally. I'll run the motard set-up if I can find the right tires.

Not sure what the deal is. Weather is great, had multiple people post on advrider and compliment the bike itself, the price, and the ad. I've had some interest, but so far no one has shown up with cash.
