10-4, no problem. As I said, I'm out of town until the 5th and I'm not even sure what time our flight arrives. I think sometime in the afternoon. Therefore, you should plan on a mid evening arrival time.

And don't forget the compressor and adapter for your cool inflatable mattress.

Whoa. Ruidoso is a hike. All the good roads I know are up north and I take mine to Santa Fe HD/Buell.

Greybeard,
I'm not sure, but there may be a Barnetts down in Alamogordo. they are your typical stealership, only interested in profits, and screw the customer...
I know there's a stealership in Roswell, that also sells jap bikes. They should be able to do most work on your bike since it's a tuber and is most like a sportster.and since they sell jap bikes, they may be more customer orientated...
there's quite a few twistys around you.
shoot up to Capitan, or down to Cloudcroft, and then down to Tularosa.
One of my favorites is the road up to the ski area, ski apache, it's plenty twisty, and should give you a good run for your money...
there's a bike bike rally in late September that used to be called the golden aspen rally, now, i think it's called the ruidosa motorcycle festival.
it's all good, your in a great area, enjoy yourself!

Bart

Just a note to say thanks to everyone for supporting the track day. The officials at the track told us it was the largest turnout they have seen.I'm reserving three dates for next year.
I'm glad everyone had a great time and got home safe.

Well thanks for sponsoring it! I had a blast! By the end of the day, I'd worked out most of the cobwebs. I'm thinking I might try to get out there more frequently. I'm particularly interested in trying the track counter-clockwise.

It was great seeing all the Buells out there! I thought everyone looked really good out there. I didn't see anyone on a Buell that made me nervous, I did have one dude on a Ninja that I thought was going to lose it coming outta turn 7... freaked me out as he was aimed right at me!

See you all out there next time.

I had a great time...bonded with my new toy... It was a hoot! Can't wait till the next one...

I think I would take the basic course again for the counterclockwise trackday. I need to be shown things in reverse. No focusing on that wall...

Well, I just talked to a buddy at work who rides a BMW and he said that Sandia BMW is sponsoring the May 4th track day. You can buy tickets there and they're going to cater it too. I'm thinking I might do it because I'd love to do the counter-clockwise thing... if only to even out the wear on my tire!

According to the SMRI website, May 4th is clockwise. I will probably go to one of the BMW sponsored track days... The counterclockwise days are Jul 13 and Oct 26.

Okay so I'm thinking of ditching the idea of waiting for the BMW F800 GS and getting a Ully and then something more dirt orientated when I need a dirt fix. I know there are a couple of members here who deal with Thunderbird HD/Buell in ABQ. Can you tell me what you think of them/service? Do they have techs who "know" Buells or are they just a bastard brand they need to sell? I only ask this because I went by a couple weeks ago to look at what they had and every single HD (outside building) was perfectly clean while the couple Ullys they had were covered in dust and such. If there is a "good" sales guy to work with that would be appreciated also. You can e-mail me if you would prefer not to post here.
-Joe

SF HD is a decent Buell dealer... bought two bikes from them since Nov 07. I live less than a mile from Thunderbird...

Go to SF... Scott, Josh, and others in service are all Buell (or sport bike) guys.

Buellers, I really don't know what this dealership has done to lose the business of so many of you but I would love the opportunity to make it up to you. Please contact me or Mike Carson and let us know what we can do.

Tindjin, Just to let you know, I still have a few left over 2006 XB12X's going for $7500 plus T,T&L. These bikes qualify for a new Buell program; $0 down and 5.99% interest up to 36 months, upon credit approval, or a top box and side cases with the purchase of a new '06 or '07 Ulysses. The bike must be purchased and delivered between 4 Apr 08 and 31 May 08. Again, let me know what I can do for you.

$7500 for an '06 Uly is below used retail in KBB. Unsold models never go away unless the price is right... Surely, there will be buyers for these at that price. For a moment I though about adding to the fleet but then I recall that I like both legs touching the ground at stop lights.

Thunderbird needs to take Buell more seriously. Buell is not about "lifestyle" and therefore doesn't draw the same crowd as HD. However, Buell draws some real motorcycle enthusiasts who love to ride. IMHO

Jeremy,
I don't think it's what the dealership has done to lose the business, it's more what it hasn't done.
Chicks may not have been involved in this message board so much, but they did support Buell, and the Buell community.
When the dealership changed hands, all that stopped, and you are just now getting on your feet, exploring your options.
Santa Fe has been here forever it seems, the former service manager owns and rides Buells and has been quite an influence around this board.
Some of the other employees at the dealership also ride.
Many folks have grown used to going up to Santa Fe because they believe they are getting quality work, and are being treated fairly.
I've given T-bird a chance, and have not ridden away unhappy. They performed decent work without damaging my bike OR my wallet.

Others may come around, you just have to realize your playing with a stacked deck, and need to try harder to win the locals.
These deals sound like a step in the right direction!
Good luck!

Bart

So I just wanted to touch base and let you guys know I'm out of town and don't expect to make our end of the month ride, either.

The security director at our New York City hotel died on Sunday night of a massive heart attack and they sent me out here to help them with all the activity they have (pope, vice-president, visiting sports teams, NFL draft, etc). I expect to be here until at least the 25th and then I'm in Anaheim for another work trip thru the 30th.

I picked up my new '06 Ulysses on Tuesday from Thunderbird. I did get the $7500 deal with cases.

Since the bike had been sitting for two years I changed all the fluids today and so far everything seems good. The clutch seems a little abrupt and the headlights illuminate the ground 5 feet in front of the bike. I'll get to work on those tomorrow.

Can't wait to get some miles on her and hopefully we can get together for a ride sometime.

Anybody need an '07 V-Strom 650? (c;

Craig

I saw two 1125r bikes sitting at T-Bird. Not sure if they are spoken for... I noticed they were the store dust magnets.

Any more 2006 Uly bikes w/bags??
A friend is interested...

All Buells are dust magnets over there. The Harleys get shined up and polished and the Buells get parked out front with the dirt.
