??? I had to think about that statement a minute. I would have to guess that keeping the passenger closer to the rider improves the handling. Right? I can not figure another reason the thong seat would improve 2-up riding. When Carlee and I were riding up at Suches, she just slid up on me and that was fine. I never charge the corners with a passenger, especially Kristi, like I do when I am solo, but we were at a brisk pace.

Handling is part of it, but passenger comfort is an issue as well. I know this will sound crazy, but Sarah isn't all that comfortable on the Ulysses. The ergonomics don't really work for her. For her to use the backrest she has to slide way back in the seat, which makes it harder for her to hang on to me. She's tried just ignoring the backrest and sliding forward, but that doesn't work too well either. Another thing is that she can't see over my shoulder on the Ulysses like she could on the Firebolt. Also, we both get terrible buffeting from the wind around our helmets at highway speeds. I never would have guessed it, but Sarah and I were more comfortable riding two up on the Firebolt than we are on the Ulysses.

I can understand that Spike, My BMW R1200ST was the best two up bike I've ever had. Mostly because I had a very forward/low position and the passenger was more upright yet still able to use the topcase back pad if desired. Either way, there was great visibility for the pillion, no helmet banging, and clean air for both. I get it.

Spike - I guess the dimensions of you and Sarah are a bit different than with Carlee or Kristi and I. What is the difference in height between you and Sarah? Since I am pretty short for a Uly rider, both Carlee and Kristi can see over my shoulder and we do not get helmet buffeting. Carlee has ridden with me from Fancy Gap VA. back to Grifton, about 200+miles and could have gone more. Kristi rode around OBX with me for a total of over 400 miles. If you know Kristi that is just exceptional for her. So to me the Uly is the most comfortable two-up bike I have owned. Then again I can only compare it to the Nighthawk (with a backrest) and the M2.

Rubberdown, a Boxer BMW is in my future. I like all the R1200 models but I believe the RT is what I am looking for. I want something that still handles well, but really can tour cross-country. Though the Uly can do it and probably handles better too, I just have to believe the RT would eat up miles better than the Uly. My R1200RT ownership is not a matter of if, but when.

This coming weekend is Carlee's 13th birthday and our local Shad Festival. Carlos wants to get a ride in as well. So, here's my proposal...

Saturday AM - ride until 3:00 or so

Saturday Afternoon - come to Grifton for a cookout

Saturday Night - hit the Shad Festival Street Dance and then back to the house

Anyone traveling distance can stay the night. We'll put up air mattresses and the tents if need be. You also have the option to come in Friday night.

Anyone interested?

Too much on our plate to go go very far anytime soon, plus being out of work for two weeks did'nt help much. Might try to make the Ray Price Buell day.

When I showed up to pick up my old Uly bars at Carlos's house last Thursday he looked at my new plate

XT-BOLT

and shrugged and said I was light on the BOLT portion of it.
So since it is officially the 16th, Happy Birthday to me!
I hope this fixes it for ya Carlos. Sorry about the crappy pics, but it was dark when I finished it up around 11:00 p.m. tonight.

It'll look a hell of a lot better in daylight and once it's washed... Until then these will have to do.

Off to craigslist it goes:

http://raleigh.craigslist.org/mcy/644231691.html

Can you guys let me know if the pictures are showing up in the ad? I added pictures using the "add pictures" function on craigslist and using the regular html tag, but when I view the ad myself it shows up without pictures. I've tried to edit it to add the pictures, but in the edit screen the pictures show up fine.

Better? Yes!
Ideal? Not really!

At least they are in daylight...

XT-BOLT day 1

XT-BOLT day 2

XT-BOLT day 3

XT-BOLT day 4

It would've been clean too, but I couldn't find a bikini bike wash that was open after work. Hey - when it's your birthday, you too can dream!

I left work a little early today and went down Askins Brick Road. It's about the best thing offered in New Bern, but it still is too residential and there are curves that are known for gravel plus my colleague who owns the silver Katana sitting next to the XT-BOLT hit a dog on the way to work one morning just before Christmas and broke his collarbone.

Sorry, this post was interrupted by a phone call from Court. He just had to give me a teaser about some of the stuff in the book. Darn him! Oh well, patience is a virtue and I've waited how many years to get an XB?

Now, where was I? Oh yeah. But, this is the way the XT should have came from the factory IMO. A nice SPORTing riding position, a stylish SPORTy fairing (that does a surprisingly good job of diverting the air) and - other than the overall height - reminds me of riding my S2 but takes it to another level. I was hoping to get more comfortable with the overall height of the bike today, which I think I did, but there are still rather large chicken strips on the front tire. While what's on the rear has to be measured in millimeters. If the weather were better at March Badness and I had time I'm sure I would be more confident on it, but it is probably for the best that I got it physically configured the way I want it (minus a bunch of detail stuff) before I really get used to it.

As a reminder, there is more than one way to make money...you can always print it!

Buell Euro

I think the bottle of Mansinthe will undergo an admirable death tonight,
