Thanks for the kind words Charlie.
I still think the best thing to do is stick with day trips until I can get a climate controlled camping unit.
Extreme heat or cold sets me off like clockwork which is what I think happened last night. The temps were around freezing so I was inside two sleeping bags with longjohns and jeans however my head was sticking out of the bag and I was breathing the cold air. Combination of my body getting overheated and my bronchi constricting from the cold air was the perfect scenario for things to go south in a hurry.
Anyways I hope the boys are having a safe and enjoyable time and am looking forward to seeing the pictures of what I missed out on.

Yup...Got that funny look on my face cause when he took the pic, I was trying to spit out some dirt.
I knew that would be one of the first ones posted.

It was a total blast!
Glad you're OK Jackie, and sorry you had to leave.

Glad ya'll had a safe and enjoyable outting! I talked to Nuts and he filled me in on the ride but I want to hear a long winded tale from your perspective.
When you get rested up and are kicked back relaxing be sure to type up a nice story about the ride.
I am particularly interested in the events leading up to the (...bailed it) picture .
We are gonna do it again but this time I am going to day trip it each day. Ya'll are welcome to camp but I ain't taking the chance again. There are plenty of roads/trails you didn't see that we can work in on the next go around.

P.S. Your bike ain't like new anymore !

It involved showing off a bit, starting with a stall on take-off...

Good night..
and it's raining here, so I can't dry the stuff out yet. I told Nuts I'd chase it home, and I passed it like a rookie at a track day....slow and careful.

Full report of damage when the rain stops.
(scratched stuff don't count)

Damn I miss that place.

Me too...

Soo..
Nuts said he would sweep through the muddy section. I say OK and stall the bike. Fire her back up, and say "see if this works". Rev once, lean forward, and rev again, dump clutch. Left a trench through second. Came in hot on the slippery stuff in second, tried to keep the middle, but the bike slipped in the left rut. Front tried to climb out to the middle, but by the time it caught, it was too late. At that point, a little gas might have made a date with a tree or two. I pushed the eject button and landed face down in the middle. Bike somehow landed pointed the right way, laying in the right rut. Damn glad I didn't get caught under whatever bent the oil cooler guard 5" to the rear. The guard saved a-lot of damage to other parts, and I'm happy to pay $35 to replace it.

I ordered new bars, but they aren't bent as bad as we thought. The rubber mounted risers were tweaked pretty bad. I loosened them up, and re-installed, and it fixed 85% of the crooked bar issue.

Ordered a new muffler guard. It is thrashed.

Plastic on that side is f-ed up. Ground a hole in it. Have to find one on e-slay, cause new stuff is outrageous. They charge for the plastic/inside heat shield/decals/whatever, all seperately(sp).

On a different/brighter note...
I had issues with the front tire hitting the fender on bumps not much bigger than a speed bump.
Went ahead and ordered some Eibach springs front and rear, and will put in my own custom blended weight oil to suit. Somewhere between 10-15. They say around 12 is beauty.

Good story!
Sounds like it was a pretty hard bail instead of just flopping over like a beached whale like I had thought.
I noticed the bent oil cooler guard in the picture but didn't realize you wrecked with enough force to bend it back 6 inches. Thats scary stuff right there man!
So when shall we plan the next outting? Is the middle of May too soon?

Charlie,
Don't feel bad man. I wish I lived down in reptile and amphibian paradise like you. Must be sweet to cruise the ole' backroads and see pygmy rattlesnakes basking on the warm pavement.
One of my life goals is to jump on the back of a 6ft or less gator to see if I can catch it.
How about giving it a test run for me to see if it is possible

Nuts,
If you are checking in I rode the bike to the club today to see if the gobblers would fire up.
Let out two yelps and had a Jake come running down the hill towards the honey hole without ever gobbling. He was on top of me so fast I didn't have time to hunker down and got busted. We won't be killing him this year.
Got another gobble from down towards the cemetary but nothing from the field or my rock.

Jackie,
I'd let you try it on my seven foot gator,he stays about fifty yds. from my back door. But they have a big sign that says don't feed or harass the alligators. He has been known to come ashore and take fish away from fishermen before they can cut and run.

Yea, the bike was doing it's own thing, so I punched-out just before she hit.

Too soon?? I didn't want to leave!!
It was a hard trip, even though I wasn't hurt when I beached myself. Gonna have to take Monday off next time to recover from vacation.

Is it just me, or is Nuts dodging in and out of bikes confusing the hell out of anyone else??

Charlie,
I appreciate the offer to let me try and catch your gator but my self imposed limit has to be 6ft including the tail. I'm pretty bold when it comes to reptiles but not stupid .

Tank,
Don't feel bad man. I live 5 minutes from Nuts and still can't keep up with what is going on in his head from day to day.
After giving it some thought I wonder if we should schedule the trip the weekend after June 16th. The OHV trails will be back open and if we hit it Thursday or Friday we should have it all to ourselves.
If you liked the mud run you will love the trails. Its got mud holes, steep inclines, ruts, roots and rock. Add it all up and it equals fun! After we rip up the trails we can hit the gravel forest roads to relax and unwind.

Nuts,
While you were gone I got sucked into helping out with ball on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Coach Jackie in da' house!
I did tell the gal that if I had something else to do then I wouldn't be there so we can still hunt, fish or ride when you are off.

After I binned it, the mud was fun as a mofo. I was a bit skittish, and stopped to ask Nuts if my tires had air, or was it really that slick??? He laughed at me again, and said it was slick.

Jackie,
Sorry to hear you're chick'n out on the gator wrestle.I told him of your interest and he just smiled.
When I told him this morning that you were backing out, he got real mad. Said he would eat every damn Snapping Turtle in the pond if you didn't show.

Tank,
Nuts lost his sense of well being when he bailed on Buell. Now he's searching for that feeling he lost....Fortunately he can afford to experiment. He will return when it finally hits him.Right now when the newness wears off, he gets the blahs and the cycle continues....Sure is fun to watch.Luv ya Nuts

Found a buyer for my Versys today Charlie. Hmmmmm what'll take me to Alaska next summer? Todd swears by them KTM's, he came by me at 80 mph on his 400 last time out. It was indeed impressive! Pops was ultra impressed with his gift last night; getting a brand new BMW for retirement almost makes me want to work for 30 years. I'll be heading back to my beloved mountains late next week, by then the Turtlehugger ought to have harvested a trophy gobbler. NUTS

Watchout for Todd, he is an Iron Butt for sure. And he would be running 80 mph even if he was on a Cushman Scooter.

Nuts,
I tried calling last night. I wanted to hear the story of how your Pops reacted when he saw his new gift.
Make sure you spend some time going over the unveiling in your mind so you can spin me a good tale when you get back.

Ya'll cut my buddy some slack now. He has owned the Versys for close to 9 months which is pretty amazing. I think the Chicken Hawk only made it 2 months .
I think if he steps up to a KTM, BMW or Buell he will end up keeping it since they all have a bit of character to them unlike the last few soul-less machines he has bought

I am impressed that Nuts held off this long. I guess the DRZ/double owner thing didn't satisfy his needs, so he's back on the hunt!

New parts aren't here yet, so I tore the seat, fender, and related components off to put the new factory rear rack on. And did a fair bit of cleaning while I was in there. Did I catch something from you Jackie?? I've never cleaned anything like that before??

Must have departed me like an evil spirit and entered you.
I ain't wiped mine down since I have owned it. Now normally that would not mean much since the streetbike never got dirty but the DRZ has seen a mudrun, 2 nights in the rain and hitting the Franklin Co. red clay the other day.
I AM CURED!!

OK guys, race report. My new hybrid made it's daybue Sat.nite.Dubed "The Bultaco with real Kahuna's" with mixed reviews.
In practice clutch started slipping, ran other bike in heat races, while I worked on worn out clutch.Ran Hybrid in first final, ran second to 600 Rotax, less than a bike length. Second final finished third, clutch started slipping again(new clutch sitting on work bench) Also need expansion chamber made for that motor and it will be untouchable.
Side note:Battery weak on remote starter, had to push start for final race.Bike fired up,I(the pusher) did a nose dive in the dirt and knocked a rib lose.Next time I'll borrow another starter.

Yowser Charlie! Them rib injuries hurt like nothing else. Maybe we need to pool our money together and get you a chest protector for when you have to push start "The Creation".
Sounds like ya'll have a grand ole' time competing. I just wish we could get some photos or video of the crew in action.
I think I'll black mail you into posting photos. You post some pics of you and the crew and I'll post a few pics of the dirty DRZ. I might even throw in a closeup of the bone dry, rusty chain if you play your cards right
