Spike - I was ok up till Charlotte when the rain started. After about 100 miles of that I was thinking I couldn't have made it w/o heated gear. Then I remembered you were coming approximately the same way and you had on preferated leather. I saw signs in GA indicating 39 degress, so it was probably closer to 35 by the time we got to NC. I think you get bragging rights for the next couple years.

Well, I did switch to my Joe Rocket jacket and flannel-lined jeans for the ride home, so at least my torso was dry. It was still the most painful ride I've ever taken. My trip meter was showing a little over 900 miles for the whole weekend. Two thirds of those miles were fun. : )

quote:

Spike- I really enjoyed your demo of ECMspy; I learned a lot. I suspect several people that were watching will be trying it out soon.

I can't really take credit for that, I only know what I know from reading Treadmarks' thread(s) and the ECMspy tuning guide. Saturday was the first time I'd ever actually connected ECMspy to a bike and made changes, so it was a big learning experience for me too. I have to thank Frank (Froggy) for letting me use his ECMspy cable, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to tune at all. Eventually I'll need to get my own cable, I still have a bunch of ideas for fuel map changes bouncing around in my head.

quote:

Spike, You should have came on the 50 loop! It was a hoot!

It looked like a riot, but ~26 miles on a 50 sounds like an endurance race. : ) Next year we'll have to get the parking lot races going.

Jlnance, Dont sweat the drain plug. Leave it stock and use a wrench to get it seated, then snug it down. You dont have to use Superman grip just tight.

The oil filter should be primed and installed with NO more than 3/4 turn after the gasket is seated, I have changed thousands of oil filters that way with no leaks.

Kristy, Will do! I got a guy who sent me an email this morning, if it is good I will let you know

New12r - cool, you know where to find me!

For those of you who don't always check the top of C3, Carlee has a request for you...she's looking for a new BadWeB name before she signs on this month.

Glad everyone made it back ok, even if they were wet and cold.

The pictures from Blood Mountain remind me of my first ride up to the top years ago.

It is still a work in progress, but check out our "Buell Corner" on our website.

Jim and all,

http://www.rayprice.com/buell.htm

The banner at the top of the page flips through several pictures. There is a pic of me, one of Carlos, and another of a guy on a CityX wearing a gray suit and white helmet. I would like to add more pics to the banner, so if you have any pics that we could crop to be wide and short (top to bottom), we can add them as we get a chance.

Thanks Mike. It was the flipping through thing that confused me. I looked at the page and didn't see any bikes. Just didn't wait long enough.

Yesterday on my day off after 4 hours of riding my rt. rear wheel bearing decided it was time to jump ship. She hobbled back from the parkway a few miles to the gas station where I went to go get the shop truck and trailer. Then to make matters worse I dropped her off the ramp, thank god for axle sliders and frame pucks but man are those pegs and levers expensive. I've ordered the bearing from Tilley's and I think I'm going to have the guys here at the shop do it. Any ideas. Should I replace the left side too?

Sorry about the bearings. It's usually Ulys you hear doing it.

The bearing is a size 6006. The Koyo part number 6006 2RSC3, you can pick them up from Applied Industrial Technologies, or may other places.

http://www.applied.com/apps/commerce/catalog/catal og.do?e=10&s=4021061

That is likely a much better bearing than the Harley part. Definitely do both sides.

Creeker, are your bearing the black or red ones? If black, they should be replaced at no cost by the dealer as it was a free "upgrade" for the 03's.

Al from American Sport Bike says my rear wheel is toast, anybody got a silver rear they aren't using? Or I can start a collection to just go for a new black rear and front too.

Thanks for the help.

I'll be calling Buell CSV soon as they were the black bearings.

Why is your rear toast, not starting an argument, but after my bearing failure, exactly like yours, I had the dealer do the factory upgrade and have put another 30,000 something miles on them. Just wondering.

Al at American Sport Bike said since I had to ride 10 miles on it really slowly and it started to wobble really bad he said that when I put in a new bearing it is not going to fit (i.e. too loose). Also the dealer is almost 2hrs away. If I can get away with just getting new bearings it would be great!

Creeker, Even if wheel is damaged, there are a couple of ways you might be able to save it. If bearing fit is slightly loose, Locktite makes some stuff called "Bearing and Sleeve Retainer" that will lock it in there (although it may be a bitch to get out next time). An alternative would be to have a machine shop bore out the bearing recess slightly and make a thin steel sleeve to press fit in that the bearing could then be pressed into.

Also be sure and check the spacer in between the two bearings; sometimes it gets toasted when a bearing goes.

Jlance,

Is that part number good for both the front and rear bearings? I'm guessing you've used their products before.

Travis, I have nothing against Al, he is a very smart person. But I would still have the bearings pressed out and make sure the clearences are out of wack. The inner race on the black sealed bearings is what goes, then the clip that the balls ride in gets tore all to hell and the wheel starts to wobbling. The outer part of the sealed bearingwould have to get chewed all to hell before they weren't any good. Just have the dealer press them out and see where you stand before you start ordering parts. The black ones are a factory replacement anyway, it should not cost you anything.
If it is a time issue that your wrried about then go ahead and order the replacements, but Buell will bw replacing them for free. Perfect time to have the rims powder coated black also, only thing you should have to pay for is the powder. All labor and bearings is on Buell. It also seems to me that Buell should have some responsibility in the fact that you had bearings fail out in the middle of no where

creeker, the front is a 6005

Yes, I've used their stuff before, those are the bearings I have in the rear of the Uly. I replaced them before going to the west coast so I wouldn't have to worry about them.
