looking for any helpful hints.I just finished puting my bike back together and I'm having a hell of a time w/ bleeding my front brakes.I borrowed a vac-max bleeder and all I get is air bubbles.I've sucked about six resevoirs full of fluid through and still no go.Banjos are tight,I used teflon tape around the bleeder screw threads.I tried w/ the resevoir cover on/off.. no difference

Put some tape on the threads of the bleeder. Sounds like air may be getting in from there.
Greg kinda sounds like Court huh? "I will tell you soon".....

Kinda busy at the moment....But sucking air is what i'd have explained..
Use a bit of TEFLON tape on the bleeder screw threads

I think the tape will melt with the DOT4 brake fluid, I would use the paste....

My '99 X1 uses DOT5 silicone fluid.As stamped on the reservoir cover..
I don't get Manning's problem.Leave cover off.pump bleeder vac(attached to bleeder screw).Open bleeder screw then suck the fluid threw.While(with another hand)keeping the res. full with the oil being...Close the bleeder screw then re-attach the reservoir cover.Pump the lever to apply pressure to the pistons a few times.
That may deplete the reservoir and you might want to bleed one more time.
If that don't work....is it possible you mixed the wrong brake fluid and ruined the rubber seals? |

I'm doing a track day in a month at Loudon. Penguin Racing is hosting 2 classes, one on Friday April 25th and another one on Friday May 9th. I'm up for either one, any takers???
One day class is $250, then you get your license and can race on Saturdays.

mine had the wrong fluid (DOT 4) in it. I changed it back to DOT 5 and have not seen any problems with the seals.
Where are your guys pictures from MB (not you Greg I know you did not go)? |

one can NOT fill a DOT 5 System with DOT 4....
That would destroy the seals in a DOT 5 intended system....
****IF you have done this you are on borrowed time.****
while DOT 5 is not corrosive,you can take it as a substitute in a clean DOT 4 System.It will not hurt the seals....
On the downside,DOT 5 is a little more compressible.That could cause the pressure point to feel soft....
********I suggest that if you are still having troubles with your brake system to pull the caliper and squish the pistons down all the way. Reinstall the caliper and try the pump again, then pump the lever a bunch to get pressure and repeat the process...******* |

Scott, You REALLY should rebuild the system soon, The seals are on borrowed time as they have been compromised w/ DOT 4 fluid.
You do NOT want to grab a handful of brake one day and it NOT be there....
Rebuild kits are VERY cheap. |

Only if he contaminated them both like you say.
I just rebuilt my rear master for $12.00. so it is cheap insurance knowing it is correct.
Use plenty of brake cleaner when they are apart. Spray it in the lines also to clean them out. I would do that 2-3 times to be sure there is nothing left behind.

Not in my brakes, on my brakes. I felt my ZTL's were a little too grabby, so I lubed the rotor up with some oil from the Showas. That's how I roll.

Good news! Al L. says that color alone is not an indication that it is not DOT 5, that it will change color over time to the "normal" honey color.
I assumed that since it was not blue it was not DOT 5...... |
