leaving the Southern Pines area we realized that Pete's SuperHawk(later dubbed-Anvil) looks a lot like JarJarBinks from Star Wars!!

Mike just signed the papers and ready to ride to the Hotel, in the rain, the pouring down rain. Nothing could have killed that smile that day.

We headed out at 6:30ish the next morning, it was still damp, and very cold, but that wasn't stoppin us. We stopped in Brunswick,NC and had breakfast in a mom and pop shop. Turned out to be a very biker friendly town. Notice it is now dry!

One of the two rest stops we made, having traveled 2-3000 feet up the side of a mountain on a gravel road, it was very cool to run across this spot, what you can't see behind those biker dudes and their machines is this:

Definatly a area I plan on going back to, got it saved on the GPS!
The second rest stop was under this incredibly huge bridge, HWY 26

Now this thing is an easy 11-12 stories up in the air, but the thing that really caught my eye is that little black dot up near the top of the pillar

That right, a friggin door!! watch that first step, it won't hurt ya, it'll prolly kill ya! from there we got gas jumped on 26, at WOT only to see that a state trooper was on the other side watching. Nothing became of it though. That was okay, we only stayed on the HWY for another 2-3 miles, when I noticed the shifter was coming loose on my bike, thank goodness for Mike having a wrench, and that tube of LOCTITE I got last week! It was a great trip, and I have some very good spots saved on the GPS.

All three tucked in for a little well deserved R&R.

We also got to stop by MR cycles and talk to Creeker. Very nice to meet you Travis. Nice guy and a very nice cycle shop, had two other employees walk up and talk about Buells! and they had a 25th anniversary Interceptor on sale, oh the agony of bills!

AND Now to introduce the first C3 member to obtain the 1125r

May I present Spectrum and his newly aqquired screamin beast:

We didn't get tp stay long as we had been on the road AAAALLLLLLLLLL Day long and was eager to get home. But Brian has done a few things to address the power situation on the new bike and I believe he will have much fun with it. Can't wait till we can get together and do some riding and get some action shots!

And Twig had a chance to check out the Stone Mtn HD/BUELL floor model also:

The latest chapter in the XT=Utility handbook:

3-18-08

On a side note, and nobody will understand the real meaning to this at all, I caught some of one of the Austin Powers movies this weekend. Don't remember when (maybe it was as I was trying to wake up Saturday morning to go change out the V-Rod back wheel) and don't have a clue which one (you know, the one with Austin Powers, Dr. Evil, Mini Me and Fat Bastard - no, not that Ft_bstrd...) and they had a spoof of an Austin Powers movie in it. Well, the following just really cracked me up.

Devito MiniMe

Sorry but I just had to share...

U4euh, I'll let you borrow my black tank cover until you find one. Just let me know. Thanks for the shifter tip. Hope to pull mine off Friday to fix the leak,if I feel up to it. Pat and I have spent two days in bed with the flu. Even had to miss the Chick Corea concert, what a waist of money. But, we do feel a bit better than yesterday. See ya soon.

I'm registered for VIR as well. Maybe in the market for a trailer that I can use to haul the motorcycle. Would like something multi purpose, takes up minimum space for storage and in-expensive. Any suggestions?

Fly, Nance, Spec ... it's going to be fun! Spec, I can put three sport bikes in a 5x10 utility trailer that I got for $700. You can get the 4x8 fold-ups cheap and they stand up against a wall for storage.

All I can say is 'Sieg Heil'! The names have been left out to protect the nazi's, er... I mean guilty parties:

My E-mail:
"XXXXXXX XXXXX has referred me to you to resolve a question I have related to an upcoming business trip. Coming up quickly I will be taking a training course for a full week just over 500 miles away from New Bern. Because it is a full week of training, I have the weekend days to get there and get back. Since ~500 miles is an easy 1 day ride, I would rather ride my motorcycle there rather than fly. It was mentioned that the reaction to a mileage reimbursement for over 1,000 miles round trip might be less than favorable. At my last company, they realized that travel on a motorcycle was more economical (and fun) than in a car so they weighed the mileage reimbursement vs. the cost of air fare and reimbursed the lower amount. This still covered the costs of riding the motorcycle (including wear and tear and depreciation) yet didn't burden the company with extravagant mileage reimbursements. How should I proceed with this? Should I just submit the total mileage for reimbursement, or should I request an airfare estimate and compare that cost vs. actual mileage reimbursement as my previous company did?"

The response I got:
"Your question actually became a big topic in several departments here. The answer that I must give is that we recommend against it, and we will not reimburse for motorcycle travel. Also, 500 miles total is the limit for personal car use reimbursement and we recommend rental vehicles or flying the distance."

WTF?!?! What kinda shiznit is that? So the motorcycle parking areas at each plant on our on site is just for show? Must be, because I'm usually the only one parking in the one at the Laundry factory. Must be the 'weekend warrior' mentality... If it weren't for the fact that they will be sending me to Berlin for work again this June (so I can attend this years Mid Summer Meeting - this time just outside of Frankfurt...), this could've been the straw that would make me say '2 weeks and it's buh-bye!' So tell me, how many of you would like being forced to fly to the mountains of Pennsylvania and be forced to use a damned rental car rather than ride your bike?

I feel Jim Nance is very fortunate to work for a company that allowed him to make his trek. Any openings at your place, Jim? Hell, the job market is a GLOBAL market - something my GLOBAL company needs to realize. Maybe I should have mentioned that I currently own 3 bikes, have owned a total of 6 and have put on nearly 200,000 miles on the motorcycles I've owned personally and somewhere in upwards of 50,000 miles on various H-D and Buell test bikes. Oh yeah, and next Friday I'm gonna put on about 500 miles going to March Badness and on that Sunday another 500 returning back 'home' to NC. Working for Buell, I rode my own bike - instead of flying - to Sturgis (900 miles each way), to the KC plants first open house (666 miles each way - HONESTLY!) breaking one of the WP shocks rods somewhere in Iowa on the way home and rode back from the Honda Hoot when it was in Asheville (800 miles) having the muffler inlet break clean through somewhere in Tennessee. Farging Iceholes!

The good news is that my boss is behind me fully and is going to see what can be done to find a amicable solution that will still allow me to ride there.

Rant off...
1313
P.S. U4euh, I will be picking up my CityX bars (and some other choice goodies) next weekend at March Badness... C-Stud is the proverbial 'day late and dollar short'. The good news is that I got my headlights (the last set available in the US as of a couple of weeks ago - as the part number is on back order until April 30th) on Tuesday, and they are a set of the GOOD ones! I'm hoping that the weekend after March Badness the XT transformation will be getting into full swing.

Wait until about 3:00 in the morning and roll it out in the middle of the street. When people start waking up and call it in to the police the bomb squad is likely to be called thinking it is one huge pipe bomb. Then it's not your problem any longer...

Or you could use it to joust while driving a Peterbuilt...

Or if you were closer to me, we could 'introduce it to' the Queen Anne's Revenge...

Looks like my sense of humor came back!

BTW Sporty-
I picked up what I'm assuming is the latest issue of Biker magazine tonight (with a 2008 Biker Party guide) and one of the reader submitted pics is Brew sitting on a custom bike signaling 'HI!' I looked at the pic and said to myself "Sporty introduced me to him @ the Smoke Out!" Unfortunately the trip to Berlin will likely mean that I will not be able to make this years Smoke Out. I was looking forward to the return of onsite camping and a new location. So Glenn will have to take LOTS of pictures for me!

I actually don't. I asked, and we dug into the corporate travel policy. They do NOT want people driving personal vehicles on business trips. It's an insurance and liability thing.

My solution was simply not to ask them to pay for it. I only filed an expense report for the hotel. The trip then becomes an unreimbursed business expense, and I should be able to claim it on my taxes (we shall see, I haven't filed them yet.) The IRS has a standard mileage rate.

Mark, Sawzall with metal cutting blade. Cut around the circumference of the metal pipe at about two foot intervals. Once the pipe is cut, bust apart at the cuts using sledge hammer. Give the two foot pieces to boating boating/fishing friends to use as anchors.

Oh hell! I just got a call from the Tour De Georgia (7 day pro bicycle race). The lead moto guy invited me to come play again. Free motorcycles, $$$, swag, racing cops down closed, swept, North Georgia roads. Only problem is it's an 8 day commitment and the BMW Performance School instructor training starts the day after I would finish up with the race, so I'd be gone 10-11 days. Whew. Damn, what to do? It really is a fun gig, being part of what amounts to a traveling circus. Last time I did this we had about 30 motorcycles, a great group of folks. I need to quit my day job.

Vice-versa brother, vice-versa!
The proverbial cat is out of the bag about Pete and last weeks trip, me and my big mouth! But we have gotten along great this week. Whoooda thunk??!!! I have a LITTLE project up my sleeve that might give me some more comfort on the beast!

I've decided to trade the 9 motor to Charlie for what I still owe him, unless of course anyone wants to buy it for a penny or two, figuratively speaking of course.
Any one ever read the 'Our State' magazine? I'm sending in some photo's for their upcoming photo contest, wish me luck.
