I'll bet his daughter was upset that he didn't want to see something more.. Uh.. intense.. I get the impression that if SHE was choosing the movie.. it would have been at least an "R" if not something "Unrated".. Like SAW XLVII (SAW guy meets Freddie on the Titanic trying to Die Harder while Alien schtups Predator while hiding from Men In Black as Rambo (John)is killing another army that had taken over an iceberg while searching for the Lord of The Rings..during a Meteor shower seen by 300 Spartans, or some such..) Who said Hollywierd doesn't have original ideas anymore?

Ouch... Ramon! I hope that movie was at least bearable. That pipe sounded pretty good. I can help wondering what a 2 into 2 would sound like though.
Hope to see again soon.

Bear - it was great that you stopped by, glad I could fire up the bike for ya. Mike let me take it for a spin today, wah-HOO. Sounds great going down the road, power is still good, but it needs a tweak in the map here and there to clean up some minor hiccuping at cruise.

Bearly - I'm pretty sure they're going to start with a race ECM from Buell Racing, and go from there. I also have to get in touch with Al at American Sport Bike, to see if the DirectLink is working on the 1125r's or if he's even tried it yet. Problem is Verizon showed up this evening to explain why we'd lost phones and T1 connections today - a "contractor" cut thru a trunk line and took out 2200 businesses in our area. So, this afternoon at work was...peaceful. : )

Bearly, Actually I think a two into two would cost some power on that bike, Mike was saying that the 2-1 was the way to keep the power and that he had a little work still to do on the system. I'm pretty sure they intend that first one as a .. Uh, not so street bike? I think the first couple of weekends at Summit Point are going to be interesting as we see just what Buell hath wrought upon the motorcycle world.. No matter what, it should be good, real good!

Joe.. Here's a question.. Since Mike said he lost a pony or so with the new pipe, but I'm sure he also lost some weight.. (I think it's about 7lbs to each HP) if he lost enough, even with the dyno saying your down, you may actually be up! Now, if he can get it to out produce the stock on the dyno.. that thing could be really scary..

Rattler,
I don't know anything about Harleys, but when I was having first service done, I walk back to pick up my bike at Grove's. I saw it sitting there with the Harley machine connected to it, (with the all the lights on and no one around the bike :-( )
Interested, I ask them I was surprised to see that they already had software and a machine to connect my bike to. They said "Yea we just tried and were surprised to find out that it worked!"
I don't know if Direct Link works with DFiII. But I would be interest4ed to find out.

I was out Saturday, took a ride to Hagerstown to help a new rider get his license. The weather was perfect, and there was little traffic which made it a fun day on the road.

Hey Ratbuell, when are you guys going to take the 1125R to Summit Point? K & I would like to check that out.

Bluxb9sx Wow, I wish I'd know you guys were coming to Purcellville. Next time you come up, give me a ring. 301 873 1920 cell. I was up visiting with Rat on Sunday, but would have blown that off to go riding. Sorry Rat, but glad to know that your knee is doing better.

Foxcroft is great. I had a bud that nearly got taken out from women in large SUV's on that road as it gets pretty narrow. I't just about 15 minutes from my house.

I did about 200 miles on the 1125R today. I road into work at Dulles stopping on the way to have lunch in Ashburn. Then out the long way to Grove's to check on my Uly which is in for some minor repairs. Then the long way home to Purcellville at one point over Paris Mountain. Paris is still full of gravel! Especially on the South side near route 50.

I rode quite a bit over the weekend.. Spent two days at VIR, Sunday I rode the Patriot course, a short, technical circuit that had a couple of wicked sets of essess.. One of which is uphill and you're making a decently tight right hand turn as you crest the hill. Wouldn't you know it there was a good 30mph cross wind and that created a few real pucker moments as I came over the hill, and had the bike try to move five feet to the left.. once or twice the front wheel started to come up.. Talk about a scary feeling!

The wind was also blowing things all around the paddock, which consisted of a gravel road and the grassy area that comprises the viewing area for North Course Turn 7 (for those of you that have been to VIR).. So, cold, windy and a little messy all day.

The most surprising part was that only three bikes went down all day, and all them were minor with the riders all being back in the saddle within one session. It was a very good day.

I loaded back onto my little Kendon trailer at the end of the day and parked it in front of The Lodge where I was sleeping, walked up to the 'Oak Tree Lodge' had dinner and was asleep about an hour and a half after getting back to the room.

Day two we were riding the North Course (same one AMA CCS/ASRA run) when I came out of the room it was under 30* and there was a fine coating of ice crystals on my 1125R, I was a bit worried since I no longer have anti-freeze in the bike, just water and water wetter (track regulations, NO Ethol-Glycol on the track). Loaded all my belongings back into the exploder and drove over to the North Paddock and found a spot not far from the TPM trailer.

Wiped (chipped?) some of the ice off and got her to fire up (a little sluggish starting in the cold but once she fired, it was all good from there on). When I went through tech inspection, the ambiant reading was 31*, damn this was gonna be another cold day. The sad part was they were talking about upper 50's/lower 60's so this 30 crap had to go! My goal for the day was to try and match my best time on this course.. a 1:55 on my XB9R.. Should be able to knock a second off with my new powerhouse Buell.

As you might expect, the first session was kind of slow as everyone warmed up and tried to get heat in the tires and hopefully on the track. The 1125 performed flawlessly (just wish I could say the same for the rider...

The wait in the pits was still cold between sessions, but like a good boy I kept drinking my water (didn't need ice yet to keep it cool either) and moving around trying to stay warm. With the second session I think the track had warmed up nicely and we were starting to hit our strides out there. VIR North is a pretty long track actually at 2.25 miles with 18 (more or less) numbered turns it can be challenging and fun.. I was about to make it both...

About three laps in I came out of turn 18 onto the main straight and the front wheel levitated about six inches off the ground and all that grunt from the Rotax power plant went to work... I tried to tuck in and ride it out feeling like something ballistic as I passed the timing tower and headed into Turn one.

I passed quite a number of people, including (at one time) a small group of coaches and the new 'safety' riders that were together, I was feeling good and running fast, loose and clean. I seemed to suddenly be clicking off the laps nice and evenly and despite a few slight bobbles coming into turn one (I'm still not happy with the feel of the front brake, on the track it's not giving me enough 'grab' to let me know it working and I seemed to be pulling it into my knuckles while trying to haul the bike down from speed.. I once again caught a little front wheel air coming off the last turn and aired it out, the timeing tower turning into a blur on my right as I passed a group of riders going into the first turn again..

I was feeling pretty good about my last session when one of the safety riders came up to me (I wondered if I was in trouble already) he had a big grin on his face and told me he'd been riding his SV-650 rave bike and could barley keep up with me, we were clicking off 1:51's .. He commented on the 'fighter jet' look of my bike and we chatted a little.. He said not too push too hard, 1:51's are respectable times for the beginner group. I'm doing good.. and he's switching to his 1098.

Later in the day, some guy that had missed the morning (too cold?) sessions came out on his brand new CBR600RR on his red leathers was the name 'Bob'. We chatted and he commented that my bike wasn't bad, and that with everyone following Hondas' lead, they were soon going to be a lot of even better machines out. You see Honda has already done it all. They created Super(duper) bikes in the 60's and were just now trickling everything they knew down to the rest of the world. It's all about Honda inovation and power. I was trying to find an excuse to leave my pit area when he started talking about how my Buell was a good starter bike for track use. Not powerful enough, but wouldn't get me in trouble until I had a few track days under my belt and could step up to a Honda like his. I mention this exchange for two reasons.. The sticker on his bike listed him as an 'Intermediate' rider. I ride with the beginner group. Second, he ended up coming out in my group for two sessions.. They will do this usually for a rider that doesn't know the track and wants a little time to learn it before going through at speed..

He and his coach went out in front of me. I went out behind a Ducati 999 and after the first lap The Duc had put a good distance on me. (I don't use tire warmers, so I usually need the first lap to warm up the tires and the rider).. Slowly I was starting to reel in the Duc, I spotted him at the bottom of 'The roller coaster' as I came down the hill and by the time I'd reached turn three I felt I might be able to catch him as I'd closed the gap to where I was able to keep him in sight the entire time. Then we came up on 'Bob' and the instructor. The Duc went around and I got caught behind the slower bikes, passing was difficult because the guy on the CBR seemed unsteady and seemed to meander around the track unable to hold a line.. Finally going into turn 7 I managed to power past him and the coach and started my quest to find the Duc again. To tell the truth I think I pushed myself a little and have no idea what type of times I was running but I may have even chipped away at that last second putting me into the 1:50's. .. I was running the Buell's lap timer, but haven't reviewed the numbers so I'll have to report back on that part of it later..

About a lap before the checker came out, I came up on 'Bob' and the instructor again! The coach did a head check as he climbed up to turn 14 saw me coming and pointed to the track on the inside of the turn. 'Bob' started to drift out and I slipped by close enough I could have slapped his right arm as I held throttle for an extra second and once again passed both bikes.. AGAIN!? I'd just passed this guy.. TWICE!! - Diving through the turn I caught a glimpse of the Duc at the bottom of the hill again.. The chase was once again on (ok, I was the only one in the game but every now and then one has to try and set a goal and mine was to get past the 999)..

Unfortunately, the session ended before I could get close enough to the Italian bike again to make a real chase out of it, but in the back of my head, I had a goal for the next session..

As the afternoon wore on, things were getting wild and wooly, on my next session the Duc was three bikes in front of me as I left the grid and coming into turn 4 my rear tire let me know it wasn't warm enough yet by sliding out from under me a few inches.. Ok, back it down, get some heat into it.. That damn 999 was getting away again.. As I hit the staright I dropped the hammer! Screaming up into 5th gear using clutchless shifts and came into turn one almost too hot to get it hauled back down (my concerns for the front brake feel making me unsure of how hard I could go since my knuckles are in the way and the lever keeps coming back farther and farther each session!) .. As I started my climb up turn seven I caught a glimpse of the now re-targeted Ducati.. Making a two bike pass going into turn 14 (I was getting good at that one) then passing another bike on the run down the hill (the racers would be proud of me making that one stick and still able to make 16/17 without upsetting myself) I started rolling on and with the front wheel lifting off the ground a good six inches or more I hit the main straight! As I exited turn 1/2 there he was.. Someone inside my helmet growled "It's On Ducky!" and the distance closed, by turn 5 I was able to see the empty space above his exhaust.. Up turn 7 and we started our climb to Turn 14.. I'll take him going into 14 I thought.. Did he sense me as I we went around another bike at turn 12? He shifted and seemed to almost run a blocking line going into 14.. I wasn't going to be able to get by him.. SCREW THAT!! I Cut hard inside turn 14 and rolled on the throttle by now my brain was seething.. Here was my carrot.. I wanted to take a bite.. as he drifted out through turn 15 I motored the outside of turn 15 going around him holding the gas on as long as I could stand before back off it to make the 16/17 combination and with a feeling of elation hoped this pass would 'stick'.

I ran three more laps and didn't see him come back by me. Then there was the checker flag.. I'd done it, I'd gotten my carrot and made a meal of it! That made my day! I was sore.. (I still am as I type this) and happy.. I'd shaved at least 4 seconds off my lap times, I'd run down my (imaginary) foe that dreaded Ducati 999 and was ready to try to head home. 'Bob' was packing up when I got back to my pit area.. ? He didn't say a word to me.. I I didn't say a word to him either.. I think we both knew where this would have gone.

The last session of the day started with the track 'under shade' as the clouds closed in and I went for a nice, relaxed run around the course. I ended up taking another bite of my carrot and started playing with one of the coaches, working on my left turn speeds (I have a problem with lefts at speed) and I had a really great session as we ended up threading around or through at least three quarters of the bikes still out there! Damn, it's a fact.. While this bike may not win any Moto-GP's with me on it.. I can say this, in the arena of the mind..

THIS BIKE ROCKS!!
Now, someday.. I'll be able to ride it.. almost close to it's potential.. Maybe.

good show Pete! was waiting for an unhappy ending, that, thankfully, didn't come.

'Paris Mountain': is that near the Paris Heights and the town of Paris? Knew someone that lived there. You know, they call themselves Parasites(sp?)... but don't call 'em that.

hopefully, when Memorial Day comes around, we'll be able to gather some 1125's for Summit Point.

Pete, nice tale. Don't you just hate braggers like that. I'm glad you gave them a run! Good job. Yea the bikes rocks, but man you rock!!

Bill: That could not have been me, but I would have been almost right in Frederick on Sunday. I was working on Saturday. I have amber wheels on my bike. If it wasn't me, I would have been fun to run into that other 1125R!

Steve: Parasites, that's funny. Yes I believe it's the same place, between route 50 and 7. The Town or settlement of Paris is on or near 50. The road I'm speaking of goes over the mountain to the north. That's Mount Weather where that old under ground government installation is that's now for "FEMA". That road goes right by there.

Bearly,

Once upon a time, when I did the dcbrag page, we had a loop for the Snickersville Turnpike / Mt. Weather - Rt. 50 on the 'Country Roads' page. Gonna have to do the run at some point soon.

Snickersville Turnpike / Mt. Weather - Rt. 50
thanks, Steve
