M2 - Take a closer look. Thats a black Uly with an orange cover. Quite rare I'm sure.

Is that a good price on the XT? That seems like a lot for a 12 year old bike, but I don't know what they cost new.

It's actually rarer than you think. That orange airbox cover is actually from an XB12STT.

I don't know that it's a steal, but it seems like a decent price considering the mileage and condition. The '07 XT (last year of the 225, '08 is a 250) went for a little over $4k new. I don't think the XT has been upgraded in quite a while, so it's likely that a '96 is almost the same as an '07 aside from colors. You could probably spend a couple hundred more and get one a few years newer, but I don't think you'd actually be gaining anything other than nicer colors.

Oh boy, do I got a story to tell... Yeah, I know it's 2:30 in the morning, but this is the only thing/place that will listen to me at this hour... I will have pictures, along with my story, tomorrow. Until then you will just have to wait.

Here are some pictures to act as a lead in and make you wonder while you wait...

3-15-08 1

3-15-08 2

3-15-08 3

I wonder what kind of story the creative minds in C3 can put together with those 3 pictures. Hopefully mine, if nothing else than true, will be as creative as everyone else's.

Until tomorrow (later today?),

Spike, thanks for the tip for the S100 soap. The silver wheels look almost new after the effort, and work. I make it a point to clean them at every tire change. Corsa III's will be on today! I also did a test patch on the header with the soap and #0000 steel wool, but the pipes were fairly clean to start out with. Pipes are gonna look awesome by next weekend. Still need to replace gearshift/primary seal. Weeping pretty bad. Lots to do next Friday, and glad I'm off.

Well as Mark is seeing double the kids have had a Blast. One rule I have with the kids to ride out on the street is they must reach the pillion pegs. Well poor Baylee is more like her mother than Carlee and is not even close to reaching the Uly pillion pegs. I do take the two little kids around the block in front of me but will not take them out of the neighborhood. Well with the Blast I found out that Baylee's feet were all in the way in front of me. So I tried her on the pillion and sure enough she can reach the pegs on that bike. So we took off for a little twenty minute excursion around our little town and surrounding country side and she did great.

As for Luke, he still has to ride in front. He was quite happy with lapping the block.

Not only were our children having a Blast!, they got very excited when Carlos pulled Spike's little 50 out of the van. Luke's words were "ooh, I bike my size...it goes very fast". Hated to break it to them, they weren't riding the 50 and it wasn't ours.

Spike - remind me at MBV, I have a C3jr. decal for the 50 if you want it. I also left you a message about the bag liners for the Uly if you want to borrow Carlos' for Suches. They really come in handy for packing. Wish I had thought about them before I left the house Saturday.

too busy tearin up the roads

That was a weekend too remember! AS A GROUP WE REALLY,REALLY,REALLY,need to consider doing a major weekend getaway in the Asheville area! At one point I remember coming off a gravel road onto hard surface, coming around a corner and instinctivly looked down the side of the mountain, only to see about 2-3 miles of nothing but switch backs, not the hairpin switch backs, but nice oval switch backs. My tires actually looked more worn after this trip than they did at VIR track day, and we didn't ride all out, set a nice pace and stuck with it. Through the twisties we probably averaged 35-40, and a few jaunts up to 50-60. One nice stretch we opened em up but that could be held against me in a court of law.
Mike got a really great looking bike, and it is THE MOST comfortable R that I have ever been on. Perfect seating position bar none.

MIKE-Thanks for inviting me along, really needed that. Still don't know whether my piece offering has worked.

Pete did really well this time around, he is really getting the hang of the sportbike vs cruiser riding.

Try to post what few pictures I took this evening.

Kristi, is it possible to get some C3 stuff for a out of state Carolina boy????

I am stil a go to get on the road this Saturday and hope to arrive Sunday late or early Monday. I am thinking I will head to MBV on the following Friday if nothing gets in the way.

My bike is not done yet but hopefully I will be able to get it done in Jacksonville, providing I do not need Buell specific parts. Is there a good supplier of Buell parts in the Jville area???

Hey Frank! What kind of C3 stuff do you want? I'll have C3 decals and a new C3 goodie at MBV. I'm sure we can set you up with something good. If you want a hat or shirt, I can always order you one and ship it to you.

As for parts in Jacksonville...I think New River HD/Buell is still carrying Buells. Not sure how well stocked they are. If you find you need something, post here and hopefully someone will chime in. You can find my number in the RAN as well.

Safe travels and post when you get to Jacksonville.

Buell misprint or I dont understand Buell/Harley manuals. On the nut that holds the speedo tac ,P/N D0500 1CZ M5x10 Well since I'm a Machinist M5x10 means, 5mm is the size of the nut ID and the 10 means the pitch of the thread which in this case would be 10 threads per mm that is very very fine no such thing unless it is a factory thread. On any given Starrett Decimal pocket or shop chart for drill and threads the only 5m thread is 5mx8 pitch.
Well at least they have the parts right, ordered the nuts from local dealer and couldn't resist going by Lows and pick up a pack of 5mx8 and they are the same part,oh and I forgot to order the 5mm flat washer thats the real reason I went to Lowes.
Well there is my 2 cents,at least you get the right part from Buell/Harley.But hardware is hardware where ever you get it.

Alright. It's long overdue, but since the green fairy is visiting me tonight I can put some justice to the story of my XT=Utility Saturday. Since my V-Rod was about a month overdue for inspection and I needed a new rear tire on it to pass inspection, I ordered a Metzeler for my spare back rim that I had polished months ago and had since sat on the floor in my living room. That was with the bald, cord showing for about half the circumference stock Dunlop on it, no less. I was arranging to meet with Webe on Saturday morning (can you believe it?) to do the tire swap at his place, and he asked me if I could get the wheel and tires to his place. I confidently say that 'Yes I can!', as the gears started turning (or was it grinding?) in my head...

So Friday night, since I had to get up early (by my standards - and YES I do have standards) on Saturday, I'm in the garage figuring just how a new tire and the spare wheel with said old tire will attach to the XT. I like calling the XT my Swiss Army Buell. Anyways, due to the top case bracketry I can't put the old wheel on the bottom of the stack so I put the new tire on bottom with the spare rim and old tire on top and bungee'd accordingly. Saturday morning I hit the Eastern NC Autobahn (what I call Hwy 70 between New Bern and Dover - it's posted at 70 - which means I go a minimum of 80. Heck that's where I found out the V-Rod would do 133 fully loaded coming back from the 100th in Milwaukee...) headed to Webe's in Kinston. The Max. speed attained headed there was 85. I was trying to keep it at 80 like I typically do, but the XT is so comfortable that my speed would migrate upwards. Since I made it to Webe's place without any problem I knew my previously mentioned bungee attachment method was good up to 85 mph. After dragging my feet leaving Webe's I turn on to 70 heading back towards New Bern, and notice a bike at the stop light as I make the right turn onto 70. But since I only noticed it out of the corner of my eye I took no note of what kind of bike it was. After I get through the last light in Kinston I see the other bike in my mirrors and dagnabbit if it didn't look like a XB Lightning. He pulls up next to me, and we each give the other a thumbs-up as I realize it is a XB12S with a Jardine muffler. Now here I really experienced a Court-ism! He pulls up next to me and I realize he is also on a Buell, so I expect to know who this cat is on the Buell next to me. I'm slightly surprised to say the least when I realize that 'Hey, Buell is bigger than that now!' and I don't have any clue who this is. Realizing that I've wasted too much of the day to stop and talk I hope that he is going to New Bern or further so I can catch him at the end of my ride home. Since I now have the well worn tire off the spare rim, and it is on the bottom of the stack on the back of my XT. This tire is so worn (some of you may think obviously due to the amount of cord showing) that the overall stability of my bungee job on the way back isn't quite as good as the trip to Webe's. Because of this I am strictly limiting myself to 80 mph, come hell or high water. Amazingly my new found friend on his Lightning is content with following me when I am only going 80. For a while, at least. At some point between Dover and New Bern he passes me. He waves as he goes by and I realize that I may have missed spreading the word of BadWeB and with a fellow NC Bueller. I can't let this opportunity slip by so I start going faster to try and catch up. I believe I finally called it quits when I got up to 95 and wasn't even gaining on the Lightning. Admittedly I wasn't giving it full throttle as I still had some care for my payload. Realizing that I couldn't safely get my mission for the day accomplished if my payload were to commit pavement suicide and slowing down I thought my chances of meeting the mystery Bueller were gone.

I get back to New Bern and get off at the HWY 17 exit - which I nearly NEVER do because the light won't change for a bike during the day - and as I come down the off ramp I'm amazed that I see the Lightning turning onto 17 to go towards my house. I'm on his tail now! He's in the left lane & a semi is in the middle lane, so I shoot over to the right lane and stop at the next stop light. As I put my foot down I honk my horn (beep beep - kinda like the old Road Runner horns) and the Lightning rider looks over at me. I try to yell over the semi between us and his Jardine muffler and ask if he's from around here. Since he didn't understand me, he decided to pull into Flounder's parking lot. I follow him into the parking lot and we introduce each other. The bike is a XB12S (I think it might be an '04, but don't remember for sure), it had red bodywork that was scuffed and painted flat black, amber wheels and the aforementioned Jardine muffler. He mentioned he bought it used. His name is Sam and he's from Durham. During our discussion I mentioned BadWeB (which he was previously unaware of), C3, Ray Price, March Badness and Michaels. He said he would check out BadWeB (and hopefully he will find our little corner of BadWeB) and since he lives in Durham that he would probably check out Michaels. So hopefully we hear the voice of a new found NC Bueller soon!

Sam, if you make it here, you are welcome at any time!
1313
P.S. You guys don't realize how much easier it is to tell someone you've just met that you are 1313 on BadWeB than to tell them your name is Brankin...
P.S.2 Now if you thought those pictures of the tires showed that the XT=Utility, wait until what I have up my sleeve for tomorrow...Right, Mike?
