Not yet.
Might try tomorrow, if it isn't too wet. The rain you are getting now looks to be headed this way.

If it is raining, I might just tear the carb off for fun.

At least you have something to do. I just looked on the FedEx site and my tank is going to be delayed by three days. Instead of being able to put it on tomorrow it now looks like it will be Tuesday.
I guess I shouldn't have laughed at Nuts when his tank got delayed last week.
Oh well, if the weather forecast is correct I'll be tooling around Sunday and Monday to try and get in some break in miles before the gathering.

Made a decision...

Ordered some Dunlop D606's. Now I have another decision. Take it to the dealer, or do it myself. It was a total Pain in the Ass changing the rear on the 250, and I can't balance them either. I want them balanced on the 650 cause she's very freeway worthy.

No dealers. Find yerself a good independent shop that turns lots of wheels. Better yet, ask on yer other forum who can help. I would consider pulling the tires off the rims using plastic rim protectors and allowing a shop to put new units on though. Watching is the key. That way you can point the blame immediately. NUTS

Thumpertalk is treating you right brother Jaxson. Just got a whopping 634 page catalog in the mail from Rocky Mountain ATV&MC. Oh brutha, gonna have to get me a footstool for the toilet!

Hey man don't be baggin' on Thumpertalk! That is my first stop when I wake up and last stop before bed (and many trips in between). We DRZ riders are a tight knit group and help each other by sharing valuable information.
Your just mad because no one makes different colored plastics for that pig you have in your garage. I hear that some owners have to resort to using (Gasp!) roll on bedliner and spray paint to change the color if they so desire.
I, on the other hand can go with black, white, green, blue or yellow whenever the muse is upon me .

Tank,
Crash her gently brutha', crash her gently!

Luckily, I know a good Dealer and indy shop, and it's the same place I take the Buell wheels. The Redline Duc/Aprilla dealer is a full service, any make/model fully inependent dealer that puts customer service at the top of the list.

They took before and after pics when I took the gold rims in.

I gladly pay them for good service.

Bedliner...

It took a while for my order from TT to get here too. I can only guess it's because they are a third party type deal. They organize the transaction, take their cut off the top, order the stuff from the manufacturer, re-package the goods with a TT sticker, and then it gets sent to you and me.

Prices are not that great either. I priced the Dunlops there first, and they wanted over $100 each. I got out the door at americanmototire.com for $150 shipped.

You may have a point there about them allowing us to be members.

Sooo,
I go ahead and tear the carb off the thing. Pull the bowl, everything looks very shiny, so I put the bowl back on. Then I pull the top off, pull the slide and needle, drill the extra hole in the slide to help response, and make a shim for the needle. Then put everything back together.

Next, the seat hat to come off for proper removal of the evil snorkel. Slap the seat and side panels back on and go for a quick spin. I Finally found POWER WHEELIE LAND!!! It comes up quick, too!

So I'm messing around with the white bike a little, grinning pretty good, and WHO the F#(% is in the driveway blowing the F#(%ing horn???

It's the mail lady with my Dynojet kit!

Not going to tear it apart just yet. I want to see how the current setup works in more different conditions, to see if I even need it. From the way she acted earlier, maybe just a bump up on the main jet will do? We shall see!

You guys are lucky in a sense. Ya'll get to do all kinds of carb and power mods whilst I have to keep mine stock for warranty. Course if mine craps out in the next 48 months I get a free fix whilst ya'll gotta shell out the bucks .

Jackie,
You have a street legal, factory fresh bike, right?

It might help the longevity of your motor to open up the pilot air screw a half turn or so. Supposed to help with startup and throttle response, and it will run cooler.

Some Dealers will do it for you, some won't because of warranty "issues".

I have seen the light on carb tuning, but only a flash. Baby steps at this point. If I go all out with the DJ kit, it will be too much to run at your altitude. I think I may have the pilot too rich already, but a turn of the screw will fix that.

If a turn of the wrist in first gear does not loft the front uncontrollably, your carb needs help.

p.s. First timer on the "uncontrollable lofting the front" thing. But it was soul-soothing to know that I "massaged" a carb, and the results are better than expected.

I've been watching some videos too!

I think my little front yard practice ground is tough compared to some of the things seen on Youtube.

The only thing I count on at this point is the front washing out totally...and it has yet to fail that theory.(pos tire)

Tank,
I think I'm gonna go with the the FCR 39mm carb. That way I can keep the factory carb fresh and throw it back in should I need a warranty claim.
Now all I gotta do is come up with $600.00 to buy it and the needed supplies for install.

Nuts,
Call the house at 12:30 if you would just in case Cindy forgets to wake me up.
I'm thinking Poor Mountain will somehow end up being visited tomorrow. How does that old saying go? All back roads lead to Poor Mountain? O.K. I made that up but I don't know if I can resist its beckoning

Before she "woke up", I was thinking FCR too. No need now. Off idle "snap" is what's on the menu, and it will lift the front of that 350lb pig anytime.

Simple mods that the dealer could never see.

Guys I have a sickness.
I'm sitting down in the basement this evening dreaming of tomorrows ride and I get a thought. "Hey, that chain guard would look better if it were about 6 inches shorter". Out comes the sawzall and whack, off it comes. Went through the sanding ritual and bolted it back on. As usual it turned out flawlessly and does look very good but I may have to leave the sawzall at Nuts' house to prevent me from doing these late night surgeries.
I won't bore ya'll with pics until I get my Clarke tank on and the knobbies installed. I will then post my final before and after pics and point out each mod/farkle with great joy .
Shall I post pics from tomorrows ride to prove I finally rode the darn thing?

Tank,
No jetting mods for me. Made the Honda a real pain in the a$$ to start when it was cold. It did however about rip your hands off the bars if you cracked the throttle hard in 1st through 3rd. I guess its a trade of but if I do keep the stock carb setup it may prevent me from falling back into the trap of doing things I shouldn't.

So Charlie,
You got me a 39mm FCR setting on your workbench all cleaned up and ready to ship?
Seriously though, if you run across one in your travels let me know. I would prefer one with the TPS but could live without it if the price is right

What came first... The bike or the mod? I think we all have some sort of sickness. Case in point: how many bikes do we each have? Does riding the most make me less sick or "terminal"? NUTS(gettin philosophical with the morning pre-ride java)

Jackie,
We'll definitely be needing a pic or two.
(knock on wood)So far, the Suzi starts and idles perfectly. I do understand your reasoning, though.

Dang man. Again with the sawzall??
I can see it now....
I don't need that extra handle bar...WHACK!
There's too many spokes in that wheel...WHACK!
Who needs brakes?..WHACK!

Before long, you'll be riding a motorized unicycle.

Nuts, wow maaan, that was waaay deep, dooood.

And what is that contraption he has holding the bike up in that ad???
I must have one!
(yup, it's a sickness)

Tank
(trying to restrain himself from tearing the carb apart again without a proper shakedown of previous mods! )

The maiden voyage was a blast! We ended up putting 74 miles on with me breaking her in gently. Couldn't go past half throttle but still managed to see 57MPH once and over 40 several times on the dirt.
The bike runs like a champ but is a bit different than the Honda. The power comes on QUICK and the motor revs up real fast instead of a gradual climb in RPMs' throughout the gears. It also feels more nimble than the Big Red Pig but couldn't put that theory to the test due to the crappy stock tires sliding all over the place.
Any thoughts of the FCR are currently being shelfed due to the bike being more than capable already for what I am going to use it for. Anymore than that and I will probably just get in trouble by acting a fool.

OMG
You din't get it dirty, did ya?

Is that a Gel seat??$$

My Delema...

I could max out on the carb/intake mods, and she would run like a raped ape on steroids. But if I bring her up there where ya'll ride tuned that way, it would be pig rich everywhere due to the altitude. To the point of bogging out at any throttle input, or not running at all.(like the 250 did)

I read one report of someones bike running better with a leaner main jet, and stock needle shimmed a good bit. I think I will go this route first with the stock jet, and see how she does, before I throw the DJ needle in there. The way she acts, I need more on the bottom/mid and less on the top anyway.

Jackie,
No gots any FCR 39's, since I sold my 450 Yamaha. With the vintage bikes we have to use the old style carbs. I do have a 44 mikuni bored to 48 that I used on the Rotax. Running 38 round slides on both bikes right now.
Glad to see you finally got that thing out of the house..........And no bubble wrap to boot. Way to go Jack.

I didn't get her muddy but she is quite dusty. I did look for some mud but none was to be found so it wasn't for lack of trying.

Jetting to some people seems to be a mystical thing but it isn't really that difficult. You talk the talk so I'm sure you know what you are doing and will get it worked out. Having said that I wouldn't worry too much about elevation unless you are talking extreme altitude changes.
Just find a happy spot in the middle and call it good unless you are trying to get into time trials or headed out West.

Looks like we might have another rider or two meeting us there. This little shin dig is going to be a blast provided it doesn't rain the whole time and everybodys' bike runs this time .
My only concern is everybody pushing one another to the point of somebody getting hurt trying to show what they can do. Lets make a pact to keep the testosterone in check (or in Nuts' case estrogen )!

Howdy Charlie. Glad to have you back on board!
48mm is a big un'. I'd have to have a big bore installed because she would choke to death on that thing.
Funny thing about the bubble wrap. It stayed on pretty good for about 10 miles and then started peeling off in layers. Guess I need to get hold of some real duct tape instead of the dollar store stuff.

Did you guys notice Nuts' bike giving mine a strange look in the photo. I think it was hoping we would turn around for a moment so it could fall over on my new ride . Never fear, I didin't take my eyes off of that evil beast of his for one second!

Actually..
Sea level to mountains does equal extreme change. Especially the way I want to run. Rich = cool motor, but it also means altitude is a no-go.

I think I'm going to tune it with just the snorkel out. I'm going to drill extra 1" holes in the airbox, and plug them with standard automotive rubber plugs. If I have rich problems up there, I can just remove the plugs for more air.

Looks like we might have another rider or two meeting us there

I said I'd bring the grill, but what everyone wants to throw on there is their own problem. I'll bring enough for three, but(like Nuts) I might eat 2/3 of it.
