Tank, We are still on course for the April festivities and I believe Nuts already has the dates approved for time off. Personally I hope it is warm enough to camp but I guess we won't know before we get closer to the date. I did indeed whack at it with the sawzall. It actually turned out well especially after hitting the edges with some 1500 grit sandpaper. I want to round the outside edges but don't know if I should push my luck. Usually I do really well when I first attemt something. It isn't until I try to improve upon my mods that I screw up big time  | ||

Jackie, What is 1500 grit sandpaper? That sounds about as rough as wax paper. And what's wrong with carrying your records in a buell slingbag? That's how I got mine down here. They make you pay to transfer them now. | ||

I'm with Charlie... 1500 grit is like notebook paper. If you want to "smooth out" the sawzall marks, you'll need some 220 wrapped around a wood block. And with that chopped fender, expect dirt to be passing your head at a high rate. They put those things there for a reason. And yes, I am very surprised to hear of the insanely clean Mr Jackie hacking away at a brand new bike. | ||

Make no mistake. I didn't hack my fender but the black plastic shovel that Suzuki calls a tail light bracket. Regardless it should still give me the needed free space to whack someone in the head with mud should you or Nuts be behind me! Now about that 1500 grit. If you want as close to a factory finish on the edge as one can get then you have to work through several grits all the way up to 2000. Me personally I usually start with 400, 800, 1200 and so on till I get where I wanna be. Regardless I'm gonna have to sand again because I just came back upstairs from whacking on it some more. Surprisingly I DID NOT ruin it on the second go around which is unusual for me. Charlie, Maybe me and Nuts will come for a visit when you send me the slingbag so I can transport my documents  | ||

Jackie, so did you pass on "The Edge"? I remember being scolded for "hacking" on FoghornLeghorn. Are you due the same abuse? NUTS is a gas tank and tailight away from having Scarlet back on the road.  | ||

Nuts, I figured I would just clean up the factory one as best I could since it seems to offer good visibility. Since the Edge fits underneath the fender I suspect there may be some visibility issues under certain conditions. After "the video" I figured visibility is more important than coolness in this situation. | ||

O.K., check out the black section at the rear on the before and after shots. Notice the liscence plate has been mounted differently and the plastic has been shortened by 8 inches. Alos notice if you will the beautiful curve on the side of the plastic piece at the bottom. I AM THE MAN!! P.S. Worked up to 1500 grit and the edges are just as smooth and pretty as can be   | ||

As liberally as you apply the whole cleaning bit, you don't need a plexiglass cover. Just a good supply of Swiffer dusters will keep you busy once a week?  Anybody know where to get a step-ladder that will fit in a backpack? I might need it to do some carb work.  | ||

Tank, Just get you some rope and some climbing gear. Lot easier to carry than a ladder. Another option would be to add stirrups like on a saddle. Just put one foot in the stirrup and swing the other right on over. I'm getting really excited about our little trip. Jason mentioned a camp ground called the Pines that has enclosed pit toilets but no water. The place I am talking about has no toilet but does have water for wiping the mud off after me and Nuts roost you. Do you have a preference? | ||

Hey Tank, How about one of those remote controlled suspensions, just hit the button and it squats all the way to the ground. Kinda like riding a camel, without the bad breath. You could send the bike to "Pimp My Ride" and for a bunch of cash, they will fix you up.Even the Turtle Hugger would be envious.  | ||

Do you have a preference? Yes, I do! I prefer to do the roosting this time! Hmmm, water or a toilet. Tough one right there. I can bring water, and I can also fashion a pretty spiffy john with a 5-gal bucket and a trash bag(and a top for said bucket, of course). When you say "weekend", does that mean Sat/Sun? If so, we can stick to plan and check out the demo on Sunday. If not, and ya'll want to hit the demo, we can push the dirt thing out a week??? Better ideas?? (I wouldn't mind a free Buell shirt to go with the one they gave me when I bought the Suzi) | ||

I usually have to avoid the demo days due to the building being up on a hill and the parking lot being wide open with not a tree in sight. The sun is killa' up there almost any time of the year. If ya'll wanna hit it then I can hang out at the tent while you guys go have a look see. Maybe take a little nap. Nuts, The MX pants are the GRAVY! Fit quite nicely and have a super duper comfortable lining where it rubs against my skin. Also feels like they will be quite comfy to ride in when the hot weather rolls around. I have seen the truck, and the bikes. Nothing for me to get excited about. BUT the thought of Nuts taking the 1125 out for a demo does stir the soul just a bit. He thought the ol' chicken hawk was fast... He will be, at the very least, amused and starry eyed.(He'll be grinnin from ear to ear too) I say we stick to the plan, and Nuts can have his fun on Sunday.(Do I actually get a vote?) | ||

p.s. Got some goodies in the mail today. I'll post a pic tomorrow. Got some new boots on the way, along with an EVS Ballistic Jersey. I should be able to wear it all year and be cooler than a jacket in summer. | ||

Tank, you're gonna love the pressure suit. I wear mine on every ride now; it just feels much safer than the built in jacket armor. Jackie, ya could hang out IN the shop while I ride; but that might leave ya wanting to try a Lightning out.  Seth told me they sold a 2003 Suzuki SV650 for $1900 yesterday. I was quite disturbed cause that woulda been a great trackbike. Jackie, is today the day?  | ||

Here's a pic of the goodies...  MSR bash plate moose hand guards JT sprockets(-1F., +1 R) Not gonna change the sprockets until I get the carb working better than crap. Hoping the pilot air screw is whacked, cause the brass plug is already gone. Got a Dynojet jet/needle kit on the way as well. Time to break out the Dremel. Airboxes everywhere live in fear!! | ||

At this point, I don't plan to lower the bike. I can tiptoe fairly confidently, and I plan to beat on her pretty good. I would rather tiptoe and be confident that the suspension won't bottom, than be more comfortable sitting at a stop. The whole form vs function thing, you know. As for tires, the front has GOT to go. It screams like a banchee on the street at anything above 25mph. The rear has a bit of wear, but I like it. It's a Maxxis M6006. Rated 50/50 street/dirt, but it looks more like a 30/70 street/dirt. I may just get a matching front, but I don't like mixing new/old tires so I might do both. Haven't decided yet. The Dunlop D606 is said to be a good tire also. | ||

Tank, Dunlop 606 is an excellent tire but $$$. A true DS tire has knobs but a rounded profile; whereas the street legal knobbies like the Kenda 760 Trakmaster II's that I run have aggressive knobs and a squared profile for really slinging the juice. They're about $100 for the pair though. The Maxxis is a good tire. It is a re-labeled Cheng Shin as there isn't a matching Maxxis front. The aggressive knobs on a front tire really keep it controled in the loose, fast stuff. Ya know we like to keep it Fast&Loose around here. With 500 miles on the Kenda's the front is showing VERY little wear and the rear is holding up surprisingly well. I have a habit of being hard on the gas leaving a stop and keeping the front wheel off the pavement as much as possible. The lowering of the bike isn't just for comfort at stops. I have often found myself out of whack in the slow technical stuff and the ability to put a foot down for leverage(or to save a bail) is priceless. Food for thought.  | ||
