Nuts, Thanks for the pics and offer however I don't think it will fit. No channels for the cables to ride in like the factory unit. Guess I'll be waiting for the new one to arrive in the mail. Tank, I had to put new grips on due to replacing the bars. The factory throttle tube and grip are vulcanized into one piece so you can't get the grip off the tube. RIDICULOUS DESIGN  ! When you get your order from Thumpertalk you'll get a cool sticker as well. If you don't use it please don't throw it away as it would look good on the other side of my bike. Kinda balance things out a bit  . | ||

Tank, I personally like the Caribou luggage. I've never been partial to those aluminum box types. Looks like some homemade, jackleg type rig. Also I don't like the idea of a metal box digging into my leg if I were to bail it. Good luck with your decision! | ||

Those "plastic" boxes seem to be stonger than some of the aluminum cases. Cheaper too. I have TT sticker around here somewhere, but if I can't find it, I'll send you the new one.(for your good "balance") | ||

Tank, first things first...Why do you want racks and sidecases? Are you planning on doing multi-day rides away from the truck? Going to Alaska? Seriously, both products are super nice but highly likely to get effed up in a minor off-road spill. If your not going to be touring a rear rack with a waterproof duffel strapped to it would fill most needs. Longer rides(multi-day) it would be nice to have stand-off racks for waterproof soft bags. Wolfman Luggage does some nice stuff! Now, if you are going to be touring the Aluminum, top load bags are the gravy.$$$$ I know, but watertight, eat everything, and malleable enough to get ya home should ya biff it. I like the Hepco-Becker Gobi bags too. They come standard on the KTM Adventures; top loading, big capacity, insulated, plastic bags. There's a guy on ADVrider selling a 2008 DR with all the fixins. Also, I regularly see DR parts and farkles coming up for sale. Personally, I think ya might need a nice custom seat. Imagine getting that T-dubb confidence with a 650 thumper. The undisputed Kings of custom seats are the people at www.Renazcoracing.com. So, whatcha want to do with this bike? Thanks for the links! Why do you want racks and sidecases? Because they're COOL!!  But really, I'd like to be able to throw a couple days worth of stuff on there in case I get a wild hair and decide to haul-ass for a weekend or something. You are right, I will likely not ever use cases like this to their full capacity, but it would be nice to have them if I need them. I'm not looking to get the largest "tubs" I can find, in fact, I've been looking at the smaller sizes. I am also looking closely at the weight of the units themselves. The 650 is a big bike for me, but in terms of capacity, it aint no GS. Gonna give it some more consideration before I make a decision. (Message edited by tank_bueller on February 17, 2008) | ||

Charlie, I'm fresh out of bubble wrap. Took 6 rolls to get her fully protected but I think I'm ready to go now . Ole' Nuts ain't ignoring you, he just spends all his time with his new buddies over at adventure Rider. Maybe you can track him down and stir the pot a bit. Probably wouldn't hurt since the humor is pretty bland over there. New throttle tube will be in Thursday so if the weather holds steady the maiden voyage is set for Friday or Saturday. Somebody needs to ride my bike! I don't think it's right. (what's with the bad luck lately?) It idles perfectly, the choke works as advertised. It works OK in the woods, likely because I don't need POWER NOW in the woods. BUT, when I'm on the road, and goose it, I get nothing for about 2 seconds, even at WOT. I almost layed it down in the woods because of this too, but I managed to short-leg(literally) a turn and stayed up. Do I need to do the "drill the carb slide" mod for better response? It runs like it's sucking bad gas, too. This computer is pissin me off too, cause I get halfway through a word, and the cursor dissapears(not my comp). I have not had a good day...work or play. | ||

Oh, upon furhter inspection, most of the bike passes for a 5k mile bike. Everything looks "cleaned". The motor, carb, and related items look brand new. Like showroom new, with the factory oil coating still intact, and the brand new gaskets still sticking out everywhere. I'm going to see if the nice lady at the Harley dealer will give my cell number to the previous owner, to find out "what mods have been done??"  | ||

Tank, Sounds like the jetting is off which is not unusual. Also, (not another lecture) since it is a dualsport and not a full blown MX bike the throttle response on virtually all stock carbed bikes is quite lame. Are you familiar with feathering the clutch and working the throttle to wind it up? If not you will be unless you jet it and replace the stock needle. Regardless of what it is it sounds very minor so don't flip out. My bad day is as follows. Got my throttle tube today instead of Thursday which was good news. Spent the next 1 1/2 hour getting the new grip on the tube. The new tube has ridges along the length and on the end which made it a nightmare. Finally got it on the grip was twisting so I rolled the end up and put some grip cement on the tube. Rolled the grip back down and SURPRISE, my brand new grip ripped from the stress  . Now I get to cut off two brand new grips, shell out $15.00 for another pair and spend 2 hours putting them on (what fun). I did get the o.k. from the wife to order the skidplate and frame guards. Plus she said I can take it next week to get some shoes that are more suitable for dirt. I figured I would go extremely aggresive since I won't be riding street much. I guess the day wasn't a total loss . | ||

Jackie, When you get your new grips, if you will put gasoline inside them. Then pour it out, the grips will fly on. Give it a couple of days to dry, then if you need glue, roll it back and add your glue.I rarely use the glue doing it this way. Tank, Does that thing have an accelerator pump? May not be putting out like it should.If you can look in the carb.,operate the throttle and see if your getting a good shot and it's aimed straight. | ||

Jackie, Coat the inside of the grip with glue first. It goes on nice and slippery. When you get it where you want it, you may have to hold it there for a few minutes until the glue starts to set. Make sure no glue gets between the bar and the throttle slide. Better yet, install it off the bar, and clean it out before install on the bar. I used the stuff Buell sent...good stuff. Charlie, At this point, I have no idea what carb is on the thing. I have read stories of transplants, though. They tell tales of drilling a hole in the stock slide that should be there from the factory, and has a "dimple" in the proper place. It 's supposed to help response. I need more help than response. If it actually is running like stock should run, it needs major tuning in the slide(hole), pilot, main, and everything in between. I'm going to try fresh gas first. They may have put 87 in at the Harley dealer.(our gas has 10% ethanol, all grades) | ||

I don't care what kind of bike you ride, if it's tuned for 87 octane,your leaving a whole lot of performance off the table.Might be cheaper to operate, but your performance is lacking big time. | ||

I have yet to find an octane that makes NUTS any faster/smoother. Only more miles can do that. I get some wild satisfaction out of putting the cheap stuff in.  Now if Avgas or 120 octane caused one to incur less tipovers, I might be inclined to splurge. NUTS  Charlie, I believe we're due a picture or three of these ring-dingers your tuning. | ||

WHOO! I got a wild hair last night and took the sawzall and hacked off 8 inches off the rear taillight assembly. Can ya'll believe it? I actually CUT on my new ride! Turned out pretty freakin' good especially after relocating the liscense plate. Thus far I have ripped off the kill switch, hacked the tail section, ground down the tabs on the controls. Next is the kickstand kill switch. I bet you guys never thought I would do irreversible mods to a brand new bike did ya'  . Charlie, I am a bit freaky about being away from the hospital that has my medical records and knows how to treat my illness. Perhaps I can get a copy of my records and carry them around in a Buell slingbag  | ||

Dood, put down the sawzall!  You really went at the bike with a sawzall??  I feel a little better about my bike. I have not even looked at it today, but I have read, and read, and found knowledge.(it's what I'm good at) I used to think that a carb was a carb. I'm a fuel injection junkie. I think I can now tune my carb and associated parts with relative ease. It will take a bit of fiddling, and good weather, but it doesn't seem like a magic art anymore.(or maybe it is?) The internet is a beautiful thing. I need more fuel across the band, especially at low throttle, low rpm range. I can fix it.(enter "Punisher" skull here) | ||
