I posted a question about how a Uly would perform as a commuter in the DC area (I-66 to be specific). It was suggested I ask in this section. Didn't realize there was a DC section!
I've got a Triumph Tiger now, and it's not to bad on the 95+, super humid DC afternoons. But even though it's liquid cooled, it do get hot! Anybody have any experience/advice to pass on? Thanks in advance!

I do route 7 in to tysons/fairfax on my xb12s It gets HOT! Some times I pull in to one of my customers shops just to cool down a bit. If you are a all the gear all time guy. you'll be cookin but I still love my bike. + you can get those heat deflectors for the uly.

I get stuck on rte. 29 heading west through Manassas Battlefield on my daily commute. It's often times stop and go but I only had to pull over one time to let my tuber cool last summer. Even then, it was more precautionary than necessary.

In the winter, the engine heat is nice. I've often use it to warm my hands when stopped!

I do roast more with the jacket and helmet than bike heat.

Rob,
how bad is the traffic on 66 for rush hour? The Buells do run hotter than your average metric bike. I've got an old tuber, I put an aftermarket fan on that helped in hot weather. I also have a Uly, just bought it this November, and I noticed when I'm commuting in this weather the fan comes on after going down 95 at a good speed. I commute on 95 everyday north of Washington DC. Fridays I try and go another way to avoid getting stuck in stop and go traffic. K

I-66 can get nasty, but probably not AS bad as 95! There are times in the summer when I've sat/crept for 45 - 60 minutes to go 3 miles. Add to that Nissan Pavilion traffic, the ongoing road work, and Friday getaways, and that's a nasty commute.
Mornings can be bad as well, but they tend to be more manageable. Thanks to all for the input!

I lived down there years ago, and IIRC there are some "side roads" that can get you to the same places as 66. And a Uly would love to help you explore them!

I ride tubers, and have the header on my S1W wrapped with header tape to cut down on heat. It made a HUGE difference, and I know a couple of XB folks who have done the same, with the same result (happiness). But again, if you can keep ahead of the traffic (and maybe an HOV lane, didn't they just change the rules down there?) and keep moving you should be just fine. The bike will love it, it's comfy, handles great and carries a ton of stuff...and the hand-adjustable rear preload adjust is awesome for transitioning from highway surfaces to Beirut-pothole roads. Helps keep the boys where they belong, LOL.
