Hey Aron, now that you've had time getting cozy w/ all your bikes which bike would you keep if you could only have one?

Well it is kind of hard to answer and I think it really comes down to the type of riding a person plans on doing the majority of the time.

I love the Buell it's fun to ride but not so much on the freeway or stop and go traffic. Its perfect for the type of rides we do as a PBR group and that would be very hard to give up.

The V rod is fun as long I am not looking to get too get too aggressive in the corners. Its plenty fast at 145 mph. I had no problem riding 6 hours straight after changing out my stock seat plus no leg cramping.

The FZ1 has the least quirks and just starts and runs with no coughing, sputtering, easy to run in cold, rain, 10 mph traffic and has no issue hitting 150 when I want to scare the hell out of myself.

So if I was only able to choose one I would have to look to see where I spend the most of my time.

1. Commuting with freeway driving. On nice days it includes back road twisites over skyline.
2. Road trips to K-Falls and Burns 2-6 times/year.
3. Would love to do more long distance trips.

So I would probably choose the FZ1. but I don't want to and I am glad I don't have to choose.

Now if I had the the 1125R it might be a different story or even maybe the Ulysses giving me a more comfortable touring and off road capability.

I figured you would lean that way, I would too. I would probably get rid of my Buell if I could buy another Buell with the performance of the Phazer. In other words I'm waiting for a Lightning model with a Helicon, plus 6spd. Hopefully they keep the styling close to what they are now, but radiators are ugly so half fairings might be necessary, you never know what those cheese eating drunks will come up with.

Have a Happy New years guys.

Took advantage of the rain free day today and took a short ride around West Union and German town. Cold to say the least but at least I got to scrub some miles on my new tires and get the old adrenaline going.

Happy New Years everyone!

I thought about attending the Polar Bear ride today but the thought of riding with 900 motorcyclist changed my mind plus you have to pay. Yuck!

So I plan on attending this one instead. I will be heading out at 10:30 this morning. Got to start the new year out with a nice ride.

"01/01/08 – New Years Day Ride - SALEM

I know there is a big ride in Portland tomorrow and many here are attending but, considering the timing of that ride and the anticipated morning freeze in the Valley, I want to offer an alternative ride from Salem.

Tomorrow - New Years Day – looks to be dry. Is anyone up for a Salem area ride? Come one, come all – Prerequisites include the following:

1) Desire to Ride.
2) Ability to ride well with others (Good, or at lease functional, Manners).
3) Functioning Motorcycle.

Otherwise there are no member lists, limits, sign-up sheets, charges, etc. Ride Map provided upon your arrival at Circle K.

We meet at 11:45AM and leave at NOON. Late lunch to follow ride.

Location: Circle K @ 2904 12th Street SE Salem, Oregon
(Roughly a Mile South of Mission Street and a Half Mile North of Madronna Street.)

Please speak up if interested.

Hope to see you there,

Derek

Paul braved the cold with me today and we met up with some guys out of the Salem area. We had some interesting choice of roads, a little scary!

It was nice breaking in the New Years with a 170 mile ride.

Brady/Graham, the guy with the stocking hat next to the white interceptor is John. He is the guy we ran into up at Detroit the last time we were there and followed him down 22.

LATUS MOTORS - PBR MEETING UPDATE

Due to a death in my family, I will not be able to attend our planned meeting this Saturday. What I would like is for us to reschedule to next Saturday, if that is OK with everyone here. There is more to discuss in addition to the track day events.

I will be leaving for the airport around 4pm Friday, traveling back east (all the way!) and will return next Wednesday. Please let me know how you want to proceed from here.

Please feel free to call or e-mail me.

Regards,

Well all of this F%$%N rain's got me depressed.. So I bought some new toys so I can do some tweaking over the next few weeks.

PCIII so I can remove my secondary flies and add fuel in the mid range for the extra air flow, rear blinker eliminator (don't know what it is really called but it will make my tail light also work as rear blinkers), K&N, Graves Velocity stacks.

Now for the Buell. There is not much more I want to do except some painting and possibly a better map if I ever get around to playing with ECM Spy or Jim comes up with something.

that would be an "integrated" tail light, I had one on my S1 till I took the sport bags off. My new to me shock should come in the mail today, so I should be back up and running very soon.

Wish I had more to report with ECM Spy, but since I don't have any experience with doing that kind of tweaking and considering the damage that could occur, I haven't done anything except the TPS reset. I'd like to get some tuning time in with someone that knew how to safely do so. I wanted to simply try and remap the factory ecm with the race ecm map, but haven't followed up since the weather has been so bad I wouldn't be able to test properly anyway. Think I'll hold out until spring.

Aron, if you'd like to play with the ECM Spy or just look at it, I could bring it to the Latus meeting or meet with you some other time if you'd like.

Jim, I might just have to take you up on that. I would not mind hooking up once the rain clears a little and come over. I am not to worried about fiddling with the settings myself. After running about a dozen different settings on my V-rod I am starting to understand the effects of changing the VE and AFR values.

The Race ECM for our bikes are the same once that were mfg in 2004. No updates or changes. It is also designed for the Race muffler and not the Drummer. I believe that the RACE ECM needs to have Fuell added in the Mid RPM range.

Comparing your stock ECM to the Race ECM should be able to show this by looking at the VE tables at the low and mid throttle position.

If you trust me... You could just loan me your USB cable.

Sweed... Mind doing me a favor when you crack open the Buell manual next? Can you take a look at the electrical schematic and tell me if anything on the left bar has 12vdc at it? I know the horn, turn signals, brights/FTP and the clutch switch are there. I suspect the horn switch is just on the coil side of a relay, probably the same with the headlight and the turn signals, but if I'm wrong or that clutch switch has continuous 12vdc I can take power for the GPS off of it.

Thanks.

Paul,

Pretty sure the clutch switch completes a ground path for the starter relay, but I'll check for that and 12vdc power in left harness. Look for confirmation by tomorrow morning.

Hope everyone's doing well in the new year. Seems I've suddenly been promoted to sales manager, so free time has become ever more precious. Nonetheless, we mapped out some Beemer trips over the weekend with travel friends, and it's not too early to start planning a Buell road trip or three... including a 2.5 day "power ride" to NorCal for some great roads!

Interested in our momentum at Latus and club status. Any feedback from Kenny about makeup date for meeting?

Paul, why not just pull it from the headlight lead behind the windscreen. Probably would be the simplest.

Paul - 2005 Firebolt factory manual* shows 12vdc power to LHS switch via BE (beige?) via Lights fuse, and O (orange) via Brake/Horn/Muffler fuse.

*Guessing that your bike's wiring is more similar to the '05 'bolt info than that found in my '03 Lightning manual. The '03 XB wiring is (PITA) more complicated than '05+ bikes... would like to modify/simplify my '03 to resemble latter versions.

Trying to remember, don't I lose the Low beam when I go to high beam? I've looked around a little bit and there is a 12 volt lead to the instrument cluster, but it's hard to get to...
