I'm on my 3rd also. Anyone else try the Bosch O2. I really like it, plus you can pick it up at almost any auto store.

Keith...John and I just replaced a Bosch with another Bosch simply because we could get it at the auto parts store...John speculated that my last one got carbonized as a result of the battery failing and the way the engine ran during that process...And to top if off, both the O2 and temp sensor require a special tool to install...

See Ya!

What special tool? crowfoot wrench? Hell I just use a combo wrench to put it on.
I probably should pick up the temp sensor socket tho. to keep with my 36mm socket and T60 torx.

Its a little different on my 99 as opposed to the 2000 and newer bikes. The rear head temp is right next to the rear spark plug and I can get to it with a regular wrench. The newer bikes have it down in the center of the head. As far as the O2 I can get to mine if I remove the battery. By removing the battery it gives you just enough space to get the wrench on it.

Bob, I think I had the same situation this past spring. Battery went out and bike was running real rough. I just replaced the O2 a couple weeks ago and it seems to have come out of the funk it was in.

Josh, the purchase of the service manual lastyear was a godsend!!! thank you for the suggestion!! I kind of assumed, at that point in time, that working on a Buell had to be like working on any other bike. Boy was I wrong!!!

Keith

p.s. Josh, where are you headed on your saturday ride?

My 99 has the temp in the center of the head.
Why? Core exchange when I did my Stg1s.

I'm not going anywhere. Seems I miscalculated my times. I may have avail on Sunday morning but I might not know until then.

What I want to do is hit some nice roads with frequent stops to see if I can get use to this S1.

DAve, it sounds like you had a more eventful weekend than I did. Sorry we didn't hook up. Damn Goldwings, I rode the dragon 2 times one handed. It's hard to have fun at 25mph. Is the July gap trip open to everyone? I am very interested. The camp ground at Fontana kicks butt. I got to ride a ducati monster 900 at the dragon, it felt like riding a scooter.

BOb...how did ya diagnose the O2 sensor? Or any other sensor on the road side? I seem to remember a method shorting pins and counting light flashes.... My temp sensor was bouncing all over the place using the hand held scanalizer.

Ya got a list of people going already BOb?

I went ahead an ordered a new (Odyssey) battery.

Held glove inventory clearance at Helimot http://www.helimot.com/catalog/gloves/index.shtml Talk to Ellisa and tell her Dave from the butt crack of America sent ya.

Dave,

Did the ecm record a code??? You can just jump the pins like you stated and count the codes on the dash. You can get a copy of the codes and keep them under the seat. My general rule of thumb has been, if it acts like it is running on one cylinder it is probably the rear head temp. If it is spitting and sputtering and generally running rough it tends to be the O2 or the ambiant air.

Re Deal's Gap, it's open to all our friends, Buellers and HSTAers...Everyone except Brent, right DAve?...Just kidding Brent, we would love to have you join us...I spoke with Francois Monday and he still had openings at Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort...

DAve...Actually, Kevin Haney at Widman diagnosed the O2 sensor for me and John and I ran up to the auto parts store for the Bosch item...

I heard from several others who were in NC/TN this past week that the HOOT had everything tied up...Probably wasn't much fun...But, at least the LEO's had a big school of fish to choose from...

Ted Drew's tonight at 2100...See Ya There!

Kevyn,
I am off Friday. I suggest a ride to a place I know. Think swimming trunks, cool water, good food. Maybe 200 miles round trip. Or suggest somewhere else if you or anyone else here would like to.

Kevin...Check out the plan for First Saturday below and posted on the HSTA Yahoo Groups site...Also there are riders on the HSTA site trolling for a ride Friday...

First Saturday, July 5h...Don't miss this one!!!

Linda and Ed Young have generously invited us to their home in
Mountain Grove MO for a BBQ and Pool Party (no, not the kind of pool
with pockets, the wet kind)...Wait, it gets even better...The ride
down via alphabet roads will probably be about 200 miles or so and
the most direct route back is 158 miles...So, what with probably not
getting there until 1300 and then recreating, imbibing and ingesting
some of us may not be quite up to the return and The Young's have
offered to overnight those who wish (up to some limit, of course) in
their large, air conditioned, bathroomed building adjacent to their
home (in another life it's their martial arts school)...Could be it
even has a padded floor and all you'll need is a sleeping bag (and
ear plugs if you're near me)...

So here's what we need to know...

How many will ride to the Young's and return Saturday?

How many will ride to the Young's, overnight at the Young’s and return
Sunday?

How many will ride to the Young's, overnight at a nearby motel and
return Sunday...I mention this option because G'Man said Karin and
brood might like to drive down and meet us and she'd prefer a motel
with the kids...Others may also choose to do this...Motel options
will be listed later...

Let the fun begin!

Linda and Ed, Garth and Bob

V2Win, hopefully there will be an associated forest? How much do we have to pay the parking troll? 200 miles on the Duc is trivial, especially when we take a rest stop midway!

S2 is runnin' poopy until warmed up. Intake seals may be leaking and I haven't the time or patience to disassemble.

Assembly point? Departure time? Will refreshments be available or should we plan on packing with ice?

Hey guys, I am still up for an early ride Friday morning...The earlier, the better...I know John is up early and we could just meet him at Wagners store in Londell at whatever time we decide...

The ride to the Young's in Mountain Grove leaves Saturday promptly at 0900 from the Eureka QT and I plan on staying overnight...I'll pub the route at a later time...

Let me know...

Bob

Meeting at the Lonedell Mobile (Wagner's) sounds good. Just let me know when to be there. Any time is good for me. Either Council Bluff Lake or the other lake is available. Bixby is just down the road for lunch. Bob, can you be gone all day, or do you have to return early?

I probably should be back by 1500 as we are going to swim and dinner with the kids and play with the grandaughter...That and the heat are why I would like to get an early start...John, I was thinking even as early as 0600...Sunrise is at 0548 and that's a pretty time of the day to ride...Let's see what Kevin has to say...He could stay here tomorrow evening so he wouldn't have to ride out Friday morning...Also, give some thought to a river instead of a lake as they are so much cleaner and cooler...Sutton's Bluff last weekend was wonderful...

Something tells me to choose a 'water feature' carefully, there may be an abundance of 'activity' at any spot selected for recreational purposes...water is good, shade is good, ticks and chiggers are very bad! Sandwiches are very good!

It's still early in my book, not nearly enough caffeine infused...

Directions to Lonedell? Wangers? I recall the spot, just not quite how I arrived and departed.

Rt 30, about 35 miles east of I 270 is Lonedell Mo. Wagner's is the only gas station there. What time do we meet?
