That's you and me though!
Most around these parts put their toys away long before the snow blows...
Gotta love those pants!

BTW, how's the new job going? Any let up yet?

Still working my @ss off, but it's nice to actually get a decent paycheck for once. We need to get together, I still owe you more beer. Maybe you and Jan could come over for a barbeque. Let me know what you think. Julie's still trying to get rid of the old Hondas so that she can get a Blast. We were at the State Fair on Monday, and when we stopped by the SPHD booth to say hi, we had to stop and admire the blast they had there. She even ignored the Uly in favor of the Blast. Never thought I'd see that. Anyway, I've got to get to bed. Give me a call or something, and say hi to Jan for me.

Hey All,
I just moved here from NM to start grad school and (sorta sadly) I'm looking to sell my '01 lightning. I got a post up on craig's list but I thought if anyone here was looking for a 2nd or 3rd or 6th bike, maybe something for the track, then maybe you'd be interested in mine.

The craig's list post is here:
http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/mcy/417275197.ht ml

Thanks,
Alex

I'm back, well sort of, been really busy recently with travel for work and other things going on in life. I got the engine put back together with advice from Brad. I had already scheduled a track day for 9/8 so time was tight with me being gone 10 days at a time. I realized at 10pm the night before that in my rush to get the engine done, I missed 2 little o-rings that were still in the package with the gasket kit. Those happen to be the ones that seal oil from leaking between the pushrod cover and head.

I tried some quick gasket material but it didn't seal well enough for high RPM running and I got flagged off the track for a smoking engine. An attempt to seal it internally also failed so I was done for the day. Here are pictures. I found my dream bike at the track too. Since going to Homecoming the last couple years I've been wanting an S1. There was a guy there from Wisconsin riding an S1 in the intermediate group and it sounded sweet.

If anyone ever comes across an S1 let me know. I'd prefer stock or only slightly modified, simply due to cost. Some of the pimped out ones are asking over $7k which is nuts. Others seem to go around $2500 which is a more attractive price.

No more track days this year, need to find time to put the engine together right and make sure everything is working well. I'm also interested in some more sliders since the guy I was with crashed his F4 on the last session of the day...it does happen!

Eric,
Bummer about the "O" rings. Good news is you only need to pull the rocker s off and pull the pushrods and tubes. No new gaskets needed for the job. : )
Bad news is you have to rotate the motor down again : (

Doing a job like this really boosts you confidence level to do other things.
That's the really neat thing about these motors, they are SO easy to work on.
If you have any questions, give me a call.

Brad

Eric, Sorry you had another track day go down the tubes, but at least you are on top of the problem.

Brad, I'm going to be going through your neck of the woods on Sunday the 23rd on my way to grand rapids (hopefully on the bike if the weather is nice). I'd like to grab that VDST cable unless you forsee needing it for something. Let me know...

That would be fine. If I'm not around, Jan will be.
Otherwise, we'll make other arrangments to make it happen.

I finally went to DCTC, Was in the first timers group with my wife. It was fun until we had to leave early. My wife low sided on the west end of the track. She broke her sholder. Her gear held up great but she hit pretty hard. Doing alot better now. Her 12S will get fixed this winter.

Sweet pics, eric. That motard is sick! What'd you put your boots on the wrong feet or something?

Sorry to hear about your wife at dctc. Hope she's o.k.
Other than that did you have a good time? I'm thinking of trying to go next year, but some of my friends are telling me to just go strait to Elkhart Lake with them.

Karl, Yes I had a great time. Alot of good info and in the 1st timers group we had 2 instructors on the course with us. If you haven't did a track day before (like us) I would do this one first then go to Elkhart. If you already been doing track days this might not be for you if they make you do the 1st timer group.

Brad, you mean if I just pulled out the rods I could have taken off the plastic cover and fit the o-rings in there? Wish I would have had a shop manual with me, I can't find mine and only had photocopies of the engine rotation pages. Hopefully I find time before winter to get this thing running AND not peeing oil everywhere.

Alan, nice pics from the track, sorry to hear about the crash. Hopefully everything mends well and she has the confidence to get back on it.

Karl, depending on the track company, I'd recommend doing DCTC first. TrackAddix didn't have much instruction at all, and people there for the first time were pretty lost and still riding crappy at the end of the day (not that you would). Sportbiketracktime.com had much better instruction and I think it would be okay to go first time with them without DCTC.

I got a voucher for another track day from sportbiketracktime to use within one year since I had two blown days. I'm not sure where I'll be living next summer (Chicago or Minneapolis) but hope to get out on the track a couple times. Elkhart Lake would be a good destination from either!

Minnesota riders.... Lakeville HD just got out of the Buell business...I was really surprized!

Sounds like they weren't happy with the sales and even the new engine in the 1125R, which I thought would actually bring in more business.

Was able to ride the 1125R at Road America a few weeks ago and I really liked it. LHD thought Buell should have made their own engine and not worked with others... told LHD that I thought they made a big mistake. Only problem is where to buy a 1125R in MN.

Donohue bought out Lakevilles inventory two weeks ago.

Went on the Buell Web and read that Faribault HD is now handling Buell. Talk to Scott down there... I plan on calling him today myself.

Faribault has been listed as a Buell dealer on the Buell site for years. The last time I was there, about 1 year ago, they had ZERO buell bikes, and the parts guy told me that they did not do any buell business. I had to talk him into selling me an oil filter for my S3 and he didn't believe me when I told him it was the same as a sportster....

Albert Lea - Bergdales - is a decent shop. They have a demo Uly they are dieing to sell, a green S3T in the used barn, and a couple of new bikes, but I can't remember which models. I think one is a TT, and there might be a firebolt there too. They are getting 1 1125R, I believe, right away.

Wayne (parts mgr), and Dusty, (Technician) both just got back from Elkhart Lake and rode the 1125 as part of the Dealer only track day deal Buell put on. They are both very Buell Friendly.

Also, the shop manager used to work at MotoPrimo. He's a young guy - rides a sweet vintage Norton or Triumph - can't remember - I only saw it once.

Ron or Vince in sales are both nice guys, and while they aren't Buell fanatics, they will respect you and do a good job.

I would recommend Bergdale's. They don't have big inventory, but they are honest and friendly and they have a Tech (Dusty) who is pretty excited about Buell, so that's about as good as it gets short of an Appleton or a Hals.

That's good news! A bit closer to me in Maple Grove.
A lot more interesting roads for back road travel too!
Which store you going to be stationed?

We have 20 coming in and 6 spoken for. Bergdale is getting 3. I don't know what Zylstra or Donahue are getting. But everyone that I have talked with who rode them at Road America and Barbars loved them. I thought we were getting them this week but the truck showed up with 12 Harleys. I can't ride until spring.
