Carlos,

I'm with you -- 34 when I left the house this AM. About 30 miles in Mr. Epiphany hit me in the head "you need heated grips! Stupid!"

I'm currently leaning towards the polly heaters.

from my own experience: heated grips are nice, but not the total answer. i had 'em on my FJR, and on cold days the extra heat is nice, but on REALLY cold days the backs of your hands, i.e. the sides facing the wind blast, will still be bitterly cold, even if the grips are turned up so high that the INSIDE of your fingers and hands are uncomfortably hot.

that said, i *think* hand guards like on the Uly would prolly reduce or solve this issue quite nicely. i had hand guards on my V-Strom, and the difference they made in terms of my hands being comfy on a cold day was remarkable.

as a related aside: investing in heated gear, beginning with heated gloves, might be a good way to go. (from my own experience i wouldn't even consider buying Widder again, but instead would go totally Gerbing.) the heated gloves are nice because of the "wrap around" fashion of the heat, as opposed to just being heated on the grip side of your hand.

the first time i ever rode wired was only just a few years ago. it was SO nice to be able to dial up some heat (just like you'd do in your car on a cold day), and it made me wonder why i'd waited SO long to be warm. : )

anyone hear from Nance last night? did he make it to his day's destination ok??

I agree with Jerry on the heated gear, especially the gloves. I put all my heated gear on this morning in preperation for the 34 degree temps only to not be able to find the pigtail under the seat to hook it up. I have now located and placed the pigtail where I can find it easily.

I can't wait to hear and see all about Jim's trip. Come on November 18th.

Go Nance Go

Just got back from taking our little ones Trick-or-Treating. They had fun and Mom and Dad are tired! The older kids had a haunted carport...they all decided that they are too old to Trick-or-Treat anymore.

Hope everyone has had a Happy Halloween. We know Brankin will!

The first official production 1125R rolled off the production line today. It will be going to the Harley Museum. How does that make sense?

According to my wife there's a "Harley Museum" in one of my barns. Wow,,,,she surprised me with the Uly, but I'd have to renew her contract for 1125R : )

I'm currently leaning towards the polly heaters.

I had 'em. They're hella hot. Low is bake and high is blast furnace. I would recommend the twist knob rheostat switch instead of what comes with the kit.

I gave them to Vern when I swapped to the Pro-Taper handlebars. They are much better than the tape kind I have now.

The great thing about the heated grips is you don't have to worry if you accidentally leave your heated gloves at home when it gets chilly. Like going over Cherohala, it's nice to just be able to flip a switch and warm your hands up.

Rubberdown...I've been following the avdrider thread. Dang, looks like you're gonna have one helluva party! I'll have to make a deal with the supervisor, in order to make it down there. You know, one hand washes the other? He'll go for my deal. So I plan to be there anywhere between 1 to 4, with the bivy tent. Pat will meet us in Raleigh, to see Nance. Forgot to mention, I found and bought a real nice older Peugeot a couple weeks back.

Carlos will be at the BBQ as well. I've moved the soccer awards dinner, but we do have our last game that AM. I too will be meeting him in Raleigh on Sunday. Boy does he owe me again!!

I can't wait to throw down with ya'll! It looks like it's getting big enough to justify getting a whole pig, ... going whole hog. The pub crawl ought to be some kinda fun too. I live in downtown and everything is with easy walking distance ... except the police department

Carlos - The rear is flatspotted bad but it's not down to the wearbars yet.

Sporty - I'd love to see the bike. I'm assuming it has a Buell front end now?

Nance... Thanks for the call. I'm in the process of a phone upgrade, with voice mail. When it comes to telephones, I'm real cheap. Might even cut AT&T soon. I'll send the new number out in a few days.

Jim-

Only if you want to borrow a not-so-dirty Firebolt. : )

I was planning on switching the shifter back over to a standard pattern before we trade, but if you want to take it for a test ride or just look it over I'll be at Ray Price this afternoon getting an inspection and kicking tires. Call my cell if you want to meet up.

U4 - I just posted tire pictures in the trip thread. If you want the originals, I can send them to you.

I got 8,000 miles out of a set of tires. Tell your someone I'm thrilled.

I rode in the rain, the snow, the dirt, and the highway. The only time I ever lost traction was once climbing the highway into Death Valley I hit gravel in a turn and the rear washed out. I don't think I can blame that on the tire.

That's the plan...you bringing Sabrina? Thinking CB will probably want to spend the night at your house if that's OK with you.

I'll just meet them both at Ray Price on Sunday.

Check your e-mail...info from Bankin re: tranny.

Shot of Fire Island National Seashore tonight. Nor'easter made for a great sunset, windy but beautiful.

Bonus points if you can spot the firebolt.
