Too fragile? I thought you had a Uly?

Anyway...

Why not bring it - you're not going to be bouncing around off-road (at least not deliberately).?

"Too fragile? I thought you had a Uly? "

You, like me, thought a Uly was for riding on the occasional dirt road. WRONG. I have to avoid uneven pavement now in fear of breaking something.

As far as bringing it, remember I'm the guy that only works 3 and 4 days a week, but those are the days that everyone else is free to do rides on. That's why you guys haven't seen me much this year. I'll be working while you guys are enjoying your track time. Have fun out there.

Kim- Clockwise, just like for the races.
JM- Quit worrying about the bike and ride it. I had mine out with a bunch of kids on dirt bikes on fire roads in the Jemez and they had a hard time keeping up with me. The factory replaced the defective swingarm, right?

Does it matter if it's clockwise vs. counter-clockwise? Just puts the sweeper to the right instead of to the left. I'm actually looking forward to leaning on the banking even though it looks relatively sedate.

I'm trying Murrae. I'm trying. It sure does handle better now. It's taking some time to get re-aquainted with the bike again. Like a different beast altogether

The track day would do you well- it's NOT a race day and you can ride whatever pace you want. Mabel isn't planning on racing, just learning more about her bike. We'd love to see yo there.

Give me the specifics again? This coming Sunday? Times? Price? There are suits available to rent or borrow? I'm checking into vacation availability now. I really need to get more comfortable riding corners at speed. I'm not sure if it was the tweaked swingarm or what, but riding this bike has made me real rough at cornering and unsure of myself. A track day would/should do me wonders.

JM-Apparently your ticket was mailed the day you ordered it. If you don't get it by Saturday ( or if you get it before)- call me on the cell. I'll have tickets with me Sunday morning. I'm wearing riding long johns (outlast) under my riding suit. We're wearing Fieldshear one piece suits that have CE armor and Ballistic material. Whatever you wear, it needs to be one piece or zip together.
CJ- I got several and replied- did I miss something? Did you get mine?

What a hoot! Not to mention that the school was pretty great. I'm going to talk to the boss and see if we can do two next year- one in April and another in September.

A hoot for sure... We definitely need to do this again. Very educational... a real confidence builder.

Also, Check out the link:
http://www.eventpictures.com/app/event/viewEvent?e ventInstanceId=12642

Put in your assigned number, search and you will find pictures of yourself and others around you. High quality photos for a price... You can also look at all the pics from the whole event.

I guess the event was a success if Murrae is going to ask mgt to do TWO of these...

Asked and done- we're currently scheduled for April 5th running clockwise as we just did and September 14th running counter-clockwise making for a different track. Let me know what everyone thinks. We will also have more support next year- several tents, display bikes, food, etc. Now I'm working on getting some demo bikes or a shop track bike that can be demo'd. I'll keep everyone posted.

Murrae, track days are not my cup of tea but if there are other activities going on I would considering coming down for an overnighter. I do not like to get out on the track (because I suck at it) but I would enjoy watching Kim take everyone to school.

I really enjoyed the Taos Rally but the best part was meeting a bunch of Buell nuts and seeing a lot of tubers. Next year I am leaving the XB at home riding the S2T down.

Frank-
You're welcome anytime, and these track days have a street riders school at the beginning and four groups, so it's not a race. Group four is for the street riders. Mabel ran in the number four group and had a good time.
Ping Ghostrider (CJ) off line with your contact info and we'll send you the ride list for next year. I'm guessing that we'll do the Taos rally again, but I plan on getting some FUELL support to promote it.

I think that track day was possibly the most fun I've ever had on a motorcycle in one day. I wonder if Luis' wife got any good shots of anyone besides him? It seems that almost all the event photos are of me turning left. There were five rights and two lefts. The second left is immediately after the 1st gear left, so you aren't moving very fast or leaning very far. OK, I mean, I wasn't. Some of the group one guys were wicked fast and leaned over way more than me.

Overall, super fun. I definitely recommend it and will be doing it again.

Murrae and all...

Ever consider doing a rally based out of Sipapu?

It gives us access to a great road from around Sipapu to Mora and up to Angel Fire and beyond...or to the high road...or to Taos. Check the map.

The Sipapu resort is relatively cheap stay with a very tranquil setting...a river runs through it etc. Rooms and cabins are available for low prices. They can deal with groups if they get enough warning. BMW does an annual even there and they are much bigger. See the link: http://www.sipapunm.com/Index.asp

JUST and idea for something different. You can still call it the Taos Rally or the Sipapu Rally. Based on the last few years, all we really need is access to our favorite roads and a decent place to socialize, swap war stories, and sleep.

JUST another idea...

I'm up for whatever the group at large wants as long as we're riding and there are adult beverages and good food when we finish for the day.
A couple of folks from the shop were there taking photos as well. I'll have CDs in the next few days and will share.

I heard some talk about getting Zia Thunder patches made-up. Any more on that?

I am curious... who takes care of the Zia Thunder web site? It has been a site under construction for some time. Somebody need help with that. I can get the pagemaster some help...my son works for "Family Powersports" in TX and keeps their web site up to date. See link:

Nick-
It would be great to have some help with the site. Either CJ or I can get the info for you. The trip to Silver City turned into a trip to Moab-we were the only ones going so we decided to go north. To say the least, it was a gas. We should add it to the ride list for an overnighter or three day event.
We have a design that we can use for stickers and patches- should I get some prices? I was thinking of two different size stickers.

Murrae,
Any chance that pick up and delivery is part of warranty work? I can't afford to keep trailering the bike up there and back for repairs. My speedo is completely whacked out now. It only reads mileage and speed when it feels like it. It always sweeps when you turn the key on, but does nothing after that most of the time. Tach and clock work fine. I also have some electrical issue that developed with the speedo. At night, the headlights pulse from dim to bright then dim then bright whether the speedo is working or not and only at speed. They don't pulse when idling at a stop. Only when the motor is revving.

Track day was a blast. I never thought about liking to ride on the track, but it got me feeling much better with the bike as far as handling goes. I could definitely use more track time to get better with the bike. Boy did I put some were on the outside of the MT-60 Front though.

I'm interested in how your speedo problem turns out.

My speeedo went out completely after 23800mi. The instrument cluster lights up and goes through the sweep test as normal. The tach and clock work. No readings on the trip meters.

Based on what I've read in the Tech section of BADWEB and other places, I'm betting on the sensor (on order). I also noted that one wire on the speed sensor connector had rubbed itself bare and may have shorted to ground against the motor.

However, I have noticed that my lights are dimmer than usual. Maybe the Halogen bulbs are just getting old. Maybe related...

Murrae,

If you ever have the opportunity to tell Erik Buell how to improve customer/owner support... Tell him he could revolutionize customer service with online parts orders direct from Buell.

In this day and age, I'm not sure why I have to wait 10 days (according to T-Bird HD) for a speed sensor.

Not sure what's in it for the dealer w/r to parts sales but all I want is the speed sensor...ASAP...and I'm willing to pay for the express shipping.

Apparently this is a common problem in the motorsports world (including the Jap brands)... Erik B. could change that. Most dealers are not doing his brand any justice anyway.

My complaint as I impatiently wait for a small part.
