Howdy! We are driving our truck from Austin, TX to visit my wife's parents in Grassy Creek, NC in Mid November. We will have the S3 and our winter riding gear with us.
I would like to do a couple of day trips of about 400 miles round trip. Any suggestions for a route would be very appreciated (good places to eat too?).
How is the Damascus, Sugar Grove, Roaring Gap, Black Mountain area? I look forward to seeing your lovely state!
Cheers, Patrice

There is a lot of good riding in that area. One of my favorite loops is to take US-58 in VA west to Damascus VA. Turn south on 133 to Shady Valley TN. This is a motorcycle hang out. Turn east on US-421 (The Snake) which rivals the Dragon takes you back to Boone NC. Head north on the Blue Ridge Parkway or NC-88 back toward the In-Laws.

Another Motorcycle hang out near where you are going to be is Laurel Springs. This is more a hang out than the roads but during the seasons its a great place to ride too. Station's Inn is right on the Blue Ridge Parkway and since you will be so close, I would recommend it if they are open.

Of course riding the Blue Ridge Parkway is always fun. The best part of the road is further south. South of Asheville, the Blue Ridge Parkway becomes a bonafide motorcycle road. Turning west at the end of Blue Ridge Parkway on US441 will continue one of the best rides I can recommend.

Let us know when you will be in the area. There are several C3-ers in the area and my in-laws have a cabin a bit east of the area you will be.

Hi Carlos, thank you very much for your advice! Its a big help! I sure beats wandering around guessing about where to ride. Having your help relieves some anxiety.
I figure it will be pretty darn cold in Mid-November, but as long as there is no ice, heavy rain or sleet I am up for it. Cold weather will be a treat! Being from Austin, we spend most of our riding season in the 90s.
Here I am on the Blue S3, and my riding buds (The Hellbuellies) on our "Thrills in the Hills" 3 day event.
Again, Many Thanks!

Cool pics. Here is a picture I took last fall on our Boone ride of Shade Valley Country Store where all the sport bike guys stop and swap stories.

As for cold weather it's hard to say. I ride year round here. In the mountains its colder but if the weather cooperates you could have a sunny 60°F day. Its been pushing mid-80°F here and the mountains have not been too much cooler.
